I don't post very often, but I read (and enjoy) everything on the site.  With the multitude of insightful opinions, analysis, statistics, and inside information, the intelligent and entertaining contributors to this site greatly enrich my experience of following DIII soccer.  As the focus turns from reflecting on 2015 to prognosticating about 2016, I thought it might be of interest to see how teams are reloading for the future.  It's harder to find information about DIII commitments than DI commitments, but a quick search of Top Drawer and a few other sites revealed the list posted below.  It appears that Chicago and Messiah have already landed some big fish.  With early decision notifications pending (or already out), we should learn more in the near future.

Mr.Right

Thanks for the updates Ommadawn, I wish more people would list commits during the off season on this site but it is harder to dig that info up unless you have a "know" but some info on commits is better than none..Thanks

Ommadawn

You're welcome, Mr. Right!  I will add to the list as I learn of more commitments and hope that others will as well.

Nick Wigglesworth - Brandeis

Mr.Right

Also, what might be a good idea is if anyone has seen these recruits play maybe give us a remark or 2 about the player..I will try to do so as well and I will usually stay positive with High School players reviews, meaning I stay away from negatives UNTIL they get into College and start..Then they are fair game IMO.

J. Groothoff is a good player in what little I saw of him. Moved from CA to Yarmouth, ME this year. Not sure if he would have been a "Messiah-level" player in the 2012-2013 era, but he is a solid kid with a good upside and could be part of the Falcons' resurgence. Quick, skilled, a good striker. Not the most physical given his stature, but then again not every striker is supposed to have the physicality of Greg Singer, and I think he makes up for it with his speed.

This is a great idea, thank you. Did you just develop this from scouring the internet?

Top Drawer does most of the heavy lifting, fortunately!  My hope is that we can crowdsource the list and stoke the flames of prognostication during the long off-season ahead.

From what little I saw in both of those videos, I think both of these guys could fit right into Brandeis' system - maybe not as starters, but could definitely see some time off the bench. Many of the Judges' best players in recent memory have started out strong as freshmen - Brandeis usually has one or two FYs who see a lot of time either as starters (Applefield, Lynch, Picard, Jastremski) as freshmen, or as the "first guy off the bench" (Savonen, Lanahan, Vieira, Hernandez) so wouldn't be surprised if these two fell into one of those categories.

Hennessy isn't the biggest guy, but looks like a very good natural left back, and defends well enough. Brandeis' outside backs, as well as those in the UAA in general, have a very good understanding of when to go up versus stay home, and it seems that based on that alone Hennessy could see some time there, although if Hacunda returns for a fifth year I see him getting the nod to start back there (he played there in 13-14 and 14-15 after spending his FY at holding mid.)

As far as Wigglesworth, maybe it's too early to say, but if he had been in a Brandeis uniform I wouldn't have been surprised based on his quality. Reminds me a lot of Miskin - quick, technically clean, and a good passer and ball-winner. Still see Ocel, Miskin, and Hernandez being the three starters, but I think Wigglesworth could definitely see some time off the bench. Seemed to have some good size, an area that Brandeis has improved in massively these past couple of years with Lanahan (who graduates), Ocel, Hernandez, etc., so that's a bonus.

is there any of these players that are highly rated or well known ? any d1 players choosing to go D3?

Not related to recruiting but Scranton assistant has taken the Head Coaching job at Misercordia.

Andrew Loughnane has been named head men's soccer coach at Misericordia University, Chuck Edkins, Director of Athletics, has announced.

Loughnane becomes just the second full-time coach in the program's history and replaces Edkins, who stepped down after 25 seasons to concentrate on his duties as AD.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Andy to Misericordia University and in particular our men's soccer program," said Edkins.  "The men's soccer team obviously is special to me and I can't think of anyone that I'd rather hand the reins to than Andy.  I believe he will continue the winning tradition at Misericordia and will take us to the next level."

A graduate of Caldwell (NJ) University, Loughnane has spent the last five seasons as the assistant coach at the University of Scranton where he helped the Royals to a 52-27-14 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

He was a two-time team captain at Caldwell and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and earned his master's in biochemistry from Scranton.

"I'm excited and humbled to be the next men's soccer coach at Misericordia University," said Loughnane.  "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to step into a quality program with a winning tradition.  I'm excited and eager to get started."

Edkins was promoted to Director of Athletics in August after 11 years as associate director.

"Chuck's efforts to provide the best possible experience to our student-athletes are laudable and I am confident that our students, families and the entire Misericordia University community will benefit from his commitment and leadership," said Dr. Tom Botzman, Misericordia President.

Edkins owns a career record of 283-159-35 and led the Cougars to nine conference championships, two ECAC South titles and six NCAA Tournament berths.

In their first seven seasons in the MAC Freedom Conference, the Cougars captured four men's soccer titles (2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012).

Previously, Misericordia won three Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships under Edkins and made 10 trips to the PAC finals - more than any other school.  The 2000 PAC championship squad became the first team in Misericordia history to earn an NCAA Championships bid.

Edkins also guided the Cougars to seven appearances in the ECAC championships.   Misericordia won the ECAC South title in 2002 and 2014 and has finished second twice.

A four-time PAC Coach of the Year recipient, Edkins was the MAC Freedom Coach of the Year in 2008.

Thanks for the comments, blooter. I read the information on the link (http://seoj.ncsasports.org/mens-soccer-recruiting/me/yarmouth/yarmouth-high-school/jonathan-groothoff) provided by Ommadawn, and this young man does seem like a very good fit for Messiah. They are very strong in the sciences (especially chemistry, where 2 recent grads earned NSF graduate fellowships, the most competitive awards in American science), they enroll a significant number of homeschooled students, and of course they play soccer at a very high level. At least a couple of current players, and many past ones, are or were science majors.

The only area where he seems a little deficient is the mile time, listed as 5:24. That's obviously not bad, but Messiah expects their players to run under 5:00 when they report in late summer--and most of them meet that standard. So, he has some work to do there.

Falconer

According to the information at http://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=55813&org=fccopa.com, a lot more D3 schools will have players next fall from FC Copa (NJ). In addition to Messiah, Williams gets one, and so do Gettysburg, Lycoming, Tufts, Scranton, JHU, while RU-C and Muhlenberg each get a pair (the latter are the two brothers already listed by Ommadawn).

Falconer

Groothoff is presented here as a potential D1 recruit: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/boys-commitments:-making-a-diii-decision_aid38538

He's right that many Messiah players have declined D1 offers to play at Messiah. The most well known such case is that of Kai Kasiguran, a first-team AA in HS who was AA all four years at Messiah. Kai turned down an offer from Akron (in his backyard), in a period when Akron was ranked No. 1, in order to play at Messiah. He came from the same high school as the four Thompson brothers (including Jack, who is now playing professionally) and some other Falcons.

I can't recall very many D1 transfers who've joined the Falcons. Several years ago they had a striker from Temple and a MF from the Air Force Academy, but my sense is that many other D3 programs routinely have 1 or 2 former D1 players on the roster at any one time, whereas the Falcons do only rarely.
