Somebody somewhere on d3boards.com claimed that the NCAA only requires a student-athlete to redshirt when transferring from D3 to D2 or D1, or from D2 to D1, if he plays football or men's basketball. I haven't combed through the NCAA rulebook to see if that's true, but it sounds plausible.

It's men's and women's basketball, football, baseball and ice hockey.

This never got posted, but Matese Scott and Liam Keffer are both out for the season for IWU. Scott the #2 RB and Keffer the #3 WR coming into the season. Sounding like Scott tore a ligmanet in his knee and Keffer a broken based on tweet from Jim Benson.

IWU will face the Fighting Illini on Friday November 2 in Champaign...

Surprising considering they saw just how wrong this can go last season. Last thing any team needs is an injury to a top player in an exhibition game (i.e. Pierson Wofford).

Are the odds of injury greater playing the University of Illinois vs Olivet Nazarene?

Assuming players are going to want to go at U of I a little harder than they would against Olivet.

There is a bracket crossover this afternoon with the IWU/TT loser playing Ithaca and the VWU/Luther loser facing Case Western in the bottom half of the bracket.

There were more signs up last year for the DI "World Series" than there were for the DIII "Championships" during D3's week as well

Do we know who approved the Watered-Down CCIW Tournament? WBB coaches? Athletic Directors?
With six of nine schools making the 2018-19 tourney, standards have certainly been lowered. And only the saddest inept team(s) will not be in contention down to the final week or so of the regular season. Not much difference in finishing 3rd 4th 5th or 6th.

Pretty sure it was coach approved, those 5 and 6 seeds want a chance at an AQ too. It's fairly in line with what other conferences are doing though. The WIAC, MIAC, IIAC all have 6 team tournaments and the OAC has an 8 team tourney for a 10 team league.

For what it's worth, ISU did not pitch any of their "best" arms during the game, mostly using freshman with very little game experience.

Credit to Titan pitcher Jim O'Brien though, who looked the best he or really any other IWU pitcher has all season, against what appeared to be the usual ISU starters.

Also an IWU injury update, John Bosco took a foul ball to the head while in the dugout during game two against Augie on Saturday. Brandon Skopick also seems to be injured again as he hasn't played in the last five games. Those are two of the best three hitters on the team this season.

The 2018 Titans have more than a handful of issues to work out, a massive one being that there are arguably only two dependable pitchers on the entire staff. Brune is a solid starter, but prone to an outing like he had against La Crosse (7 ER). Becker needs a longer look too I think, he went a very solid 4 1/3 against Elmhurst last week. All other starters have had more bad than good.

On the offensive end, Skopick (a Central Michigan transfer) has been the only player to hit in CCIW play, but he's presumably been out with an injury for the last three games forcing Nick Figus to transition from center to shortstop.

Illinois Wesleyan has made their choice in Tony Dulak, who is coming to the Titans from Lynchburg College where he was the top assistant.

Personally I think Shanks will be the Titans ball-handler for the next two years. She was the secondary distributor until she went down with the broken hand, finished second on the team in assists despite missing eight games, and was No. 2 in the CCIW in assist/turnover.

Key for IWU tomorrow is defending Trine's bigs, and having strong games from Merritt, Brovelli and other post area Titan players.  We'll see if the Titans can turn them over, win the TO battle, which they didn't do vs. Marietta.  Rely on your seniors, but the role players have to come through strong as well.  Sosa and Anderson stepping up.  Walsberg playing with lots of confidence.

Should be a great game -- a re-match of last year's first rounder when Trine won by 7.

Go TITANS -- let's make the Sweet 16.

Will be very important for the Titan bigs to not get into foul trouble as they did last night, leading to a 22 point performance from Corrie Burkhardt of Marietta. Schneider fouled out with 5 minutes to play, Merritt and Brovelli operated most of the 4th with four fouls each. Will need to have one of their cleanest defensive performances of the year against 6-2 Hayley Martin who is as good offensively as she is defensively. Martin had 18/10 with 5 blocked shots last night.

According to The Pantagraph this morning: Hughes = Torn ACL, Ehresman is the Flu-haver.

Based on Mia Smith's interview with Eric Stock today (via the Illinois Wesleyan Athletics Facebook) it sounds like Raven Hughes will be a no go this weekend. They still haven't received MRI results on her knee. Coach Smith also stated that the flu is back on campus and has hit a few players on the team, much like it did earlier this season with the men's team.
