Had the pleasure of attending the North Central Basketball Award Banquet

...This season the Cardinals enjoyed spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii while participating in a tournament.
Next season will be highlighted by a tip to Las Vegas where they will play in the Las Vegas Shootout between Christmas and New Years.

I'd put my money on Christmas, though New Years has its backers too.

Is Steve Schweer any relation to Chris Schweer, an All-Stater at York who graduated 1969 and then played at Vanderbilt?

Someone needs to do a playoff bracket competition for the weird foods that humans of various stripes eat with pride.  Lutefisk and haggis would be my early front-runners, but I'm sure there are other contenders.

Chitterlings and escargot probably also belong in the bracket.

Thanks for the tip, Greg!  I don't know the place but will gladly try it the next time I'm in the area.  How do Swedes cook smelt?

Too bad. Andersonville seemed like the right place for Ann Sather's.

There was even an Ann Sather's in Hyde Park a million years ago. My wife and I held our rehearsal dinner there.

At least Chicago is still the smelt fishing capital of the world.

Greg, is Ann Sather's still open in Andersonville?

Their cinnamon rolls make the top 10 list of "Things I Miss About Chicago."

It was touch-and-go for a while there, Greg.  Distractions abounded, but the lure of D3hoops is irresistible.

Thanks, Pat.  I got distracted by the 2008 financial crisis, but I finally found my way back here.

Always grateful for the "pre-season" training that the outstanding CCIW teams give my Maroons, who finished with a big win this year.

So... did I miss anything?

Long time, no hear, Pistol. Hope you're doing well. You should be proud of your Maroons -- they've pulled off a heckuva run this season that nobody foresaw.

Greg, if the Maroons get sent someplace accessible in the tournament, maybe I'll see you and some of the rest of the gang at one of the games.  Hope all goes well for you.

Cheers,
Pete

Congrats to Mike McGrath and the Maroons.  What a great run to close out the season.  Hope to see you guys at the tournament.

Cheers,
Pete

Congrats, Q.  Great news, and best of luck to you in your new home.

Cheers,
Pete

...and your point is?

Job descriptions are written by management, not labor, in most situations.  The very reasons you identify are the reasons for the inclusion of that language.

Men's soccer / Freddie Adu

The working assumption in this thread is that Adu could play right now in MLS.

I should know this, but I don't: How much has Adu actually been playing lately?

Last season he got very little playing time, at least according to the local sports commentators.  The team coach did not think he was ready.  It became quite a bone of local contention.
