looks like maxwell is back down to double A portland after a 3 appearance stint with the pawsox...and pitching well in limited duty...3 appearances, 1 win, 9.2 ip, 9 k's and a 2.79 era

his overall numbers across 3 levels this season are not bad...5-1 with a 3.12 era, 30 appearances (1 start) and 42 k's in 60.2 ip

Kenny Moreland has been promoted to High A Frederick.

blake maxwell led red sox minor leaguers with an 11-1 record across three levels and was named to their minor league all star team - press release here

blake was 4-1 with a 2.61 era at high A, 7-0 with a 2.66 era at double A and 0-0 with a 6.43 in 3 triple A appearances - 11-1 with a 2.90 era overall...not bad

Saw that former CNU pitcher Kenny Moreland, High A Frederick Keys, pitched three shutout innings of relief during last nights Carolina League playoff game vs Kinston.  Way to go Kenny.  Also saw he was second on the team in appearances this year.

Congrats to Kenny Moreland (CNU) as he and his Frederick Keys mates won the Carolina League championship.

Strong start for (CNU) Kenny Moreland with the Frederick Keys (Orioles Class A Advanced).

2-1, 2.76 ERA, 5 G, 16.1 INN, 14 K's, 1.04 WHIP

Manager Orlando Gomez seems to be using him in long relief vice a starter.  Need a bump to AA soon as window of opportunity for Kenny may be getting smaller and smaller and at age 27 he may not have much upside for that organization.  I hope he sticks it out.

It's a shame...Blake Maxwell released by the Red Sox organization...hopefully someone gives him another chance.

somebody will...just not on the mound :)

QuoteMaxwell plans on returning to Methodist to finish his degree, while also serving as an assistant baseball coach.

I just saw where former CNU standout Kenny Moreland was sent down to Aberdeen after spending the first couple months at Frederick. He was 2-2 with a 4.37 ERA in nine appearances for the Keys. In 22.2 innings, he allowed 22 hits, 13 runs, 11 earned, walked five and struck out 16. In his last two outings, he pitched 4.1 innings, allowed five runs on five hits, 2 home runs, walked one and struck out one. He also allowed a run on three hits in 2/3's of an inning two appearances before that. Could be what lead to his demotion, tho Im speculating and do not know for sure.
