Thought it might be time for more bracket fun. Instead of all the nutso World Cup rules that I included to tabulate for teams, I figured it might be good to use the same rules that lastguy had for the 2015 bracket.
ROUND OF 32 (1 pt for each correct)
Chicago, Tufts, Carleton, Stevens, Trinity (TX), Amherst, Mary Hardin-Baylor, St. Joseph's (ME), Luther, Conn. College, Dominican (IL), Springfield, St. Thomas, Montclair State, Augsburg, Haverford, Case Western, Messiah, Capital, Johns Hopkins, Kenyon, SUNY Cortland, Carnegie Mellon, Williams, Calvin, Rochester (NY), Carthage, St. Lawrence, John Carroll, F&M, Lycoming, Eastern
ROUND OF 16 (2 pts for each correct)

Goals scored in Final: 3
Tie-Breaker 1: Overall correct number of picks
Tie-Breaker 2: Total goals scored in final
Tie-Breaker 3: Correct Champion picked
Notes:
- Very much shooting from the hip, here.
- I am not bullish on Tufts — I don't think they are as talented as in recent years offensively (2014) or defensively (2016 and 2017) — but the Jumbos have chugged along with incredible effectiveness. They can win games in a number of ways and but for a bad bounce against Brandeis last year could well have been in the Final 4 and celebrating their third title in four years. They are just good at getting results. That being said, I don't think they have faced a barrage of offensive talent in the form of a Chicago/Messiah/Calvin in the NESCAC this year, so perhaps the defense may be prone to bending or breaking in ways we haven't seen thus far. It is also possible that they'll run into another team which defeats them on PKs, and the Jumbos have been through a number of shootouts in the last two years, so there is ample PK intelligence to be gained. However, as I said to someone last week, "I just don't see who will beat them."
- It may be homerish, but I fully think SJC can get out of the Sweet 16. I think they have every ability to get past Middlebury, and, while Amherst (the likely 2nd Round opponent) has been known to be hard to beat in these one-and-done scenarios, I think the Monks are better defensively and opportunistic going forward.
- Messiah has a tough, tough pod with JHU. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see JHU spring an upset.
- Likewise, I could see Kenyon springing the upset over Calvin, but I think the Knights will get out of the quadrant. A Chicago-Calvin semifinal would be great theater (and in the right round this year, IMHO).
Way to go out on a limb Bloots with those Elite 8 picks LOL....J/K......I will pick mine tomorrow.

Sure, why not. Actually, each round might be a bit much, so we can say three: post-Round of 32, Elite 8, and Final.
Given that the two groups of selections and the tiebreakers would still yield a tied result, I'm introducing Tie-Breaker 4 (particularly for Pelinho and myself): Tournament top scorer

I'm looking at:
24/30 in Round 1 = 24 pts (26 if you count Chicago and Tufts with byes)
13/16 in Round 2 = 26 pts (only blemishes were St. Joes, Connecticut, Mary Washington)
Total thus far = 50 points
Yes EB's got 50 pts. I did a quick look at mine and got 49. I'll try to get unofficial 1st/2nd Round totals for the rest before Friday.
Friday???? Why even do a bracket challenge....You know Bloots get back to us in March with the results or you could pull a Lastguy and take over all this responsibility and redo the EPL challenge with betting lines and everything and after the 3rd week it turned into a sh*t show..By the 4th week the whole thing dissipated.....OffPitch has to be the most reliable at this kind of stuff....+k Bloots for the effort even if you bit off more than you could chew.....

I did have them advancing in the round of 16, so I hope I can count them as correct for the round of 32. I just wanted full disclosure before I tally mine. Thanks!

Alright, here's the preliminary totals to date (1st and 2nd Rounds):
Note that the only rankings that matter are the ones after the championship. ;) And in the Bloots vs. Pelinho tiebreaker, West currently leads 2-0.

Bloots, Thanks for the credit on the bye teams and doing all the tallying on these.

D'oh — no idea how you got left out — I was writing down all the tabulations on paper and using shorthand. Yes, 47 points.

47 Points!
What was the final tally here? Must have been some good scores with 3/4 of the consensus favorites making it to greensboro.

Doing 'em today...don't hurry back, the weather is not pleasant.
Final Tallies
Scoring notes: 1. Everyone got credit for Chicago and Tufts in the 1st Round even if they were 1st round byes. 2. For those who picked the correct finalists, you got (at least) 16 points for each...so if you picked Calvin to be champion you will still get 16 points for correctly having them in the Final. 3. The Bloots-Pelinho tiebreaker was top scorer in the tournament, and it was good that we had that, as you'll see in a moment. ;)

Bloots, thanks for setting up the tournament challenge and tallying the scores. Well done to you for squeaking out the win over
Pelinho with the tie-breaker. Lastly, a shout out to casualfan for being the only one to pick Tufts over Calvin in the final. He overcame
a slow start in the first two rounds to almost win.

For being a casual fan, I guess I know more than I thought ;)

Impressive indeed. The one thing I found really interesting -- even if obvious in hindsight -- when tabulating the scores is that having one or two teams in the Final 4 can more than make up for a lack of correct selections in the first few rounds. So if you got say 44 points up to the Sweet 16 -- which was below the mean of 6 for the first 2 rounds -- but you got two or three teams right into the Final 4 you could well make up that difference. FWIW, the average score after the first 2 rounds was 46, but the average after the four subsequent rounds was just a further 50 (so 96 in total)...casualfan got 41 points in the first 2 rounds (5 less than 46) but 84 in the subsequent four rounds (34 points higher than 50).
Maybe there needs to be a SoS type calculation to determine if you can advance after the first two rounds ;D

Too much math! (I know, I just calculated the averages...)
(If you want to run next year's bracket be my guest. ;))
