The budget doesn't recognize that and doesn't work that way. Although the cost of busing is high, let's be honest -- you have to rent a bus. Whether you drive it 15 miles or a hundred, it's not going to be significantly different. You still rent the bus for a time and hire a driver for time.
Playing at home with a freshman heavy team- especially at Crenshaw Gym- is significantly different than sending them on the road to play a lower seeded team and if it's not just about $$$ then what is it about??? LONG RANT OVER

This is not part of the criteria.

You keep claiming to be done ranting. Please live up to that claim.

Actually, this happens 100% of the time -- when the travel can be cheaper in a sectional, they put it in a place where the travel will be cheaper.

Quote from: 89Pirate on March 01, 2024, 06:07:19 PMNot that it matters much, but the D3Hoops bracket has Whitworth listed with an 18-9 record when it's really 19-8.

Go Bucs !

Did not see this post before we made our updates last night but will get it in tonight.

Quote from: joelmama on February 29, 2024, 11:56:11 AMWouldn't a good solution be to have the HCAC and OAC merge into a 16 team league with two 8 team divisions (move Wilmington to HCAC division and have a couple of crossovers each year?

Wouldn't they lose an automatic playoff berth then?  The 2nd place team would not be guaranteed a spot.  I don't believe the NCAA would recognize it as two separate conferences/divisions/playoff births.

Yeah, I think this came up when people suggested the E8 and LL do the same. Why lose an autobid over this?

The reason to do it would be if both conferences thought they might lose schools in the next five years or so. We definitely will continue to lose small colleges, and it will almost certainly accelerate. Whether that's the right move for these two conferences is not in the scope of my post. :)

I'm going to consolidate this under the Centennial Conference conversation.

Yes, but I didn't want to be presumptuous and state that Elmhurst would've made it in if there had been five more Pool C berths available. I just don't remember the national 2007 scenario well enough to make that claim in 2024. And the research required to investigate and then draw that conclusion was daunting; it ate up the better part of an afternoon for me just to look up and re-read the CCIW posts from the 2006-07 season. ;)

Fair enough! I also don't have an easy way to put my hands on 2007 bracketology.

Quote from: Onward on, John Carroll on February 26, 2024, 09:27:38 PMJohn, Carol has the Saturday night game scheduled for 820. Was that their choice or is that NCAA mandated?

All of these game times are set by the committee intentionally, so we have games tipping off and coming down the stretch constantly. This started a few years ago.

Hi Pat, since 3 teams have to travel, why does it seem that the home teams is playing the later game the first day, in each pod. Wouldn't it be fair to have the home team and only 1 team traveling play first, when it would seem that the home team is the favorite anyways?

Thanks

Nobody in the NCAA Tournament is traveling on game day, so the thought of a game at 5:15 or even 3:30 shouldn't be an issue. Everyone is supposed to be at the site on Thursday for a practice in the game facility.

Home team always plays last, and has for as long as we've been covering this tournament. That is also mandated by the NCAA committee.

The 2007 tournament had 59 teams. We didn't get to 64 in MBB until 2017.

Thought of not worrying about travel so much is about the budget, and the budget is getting better for D-III championships, for sure. However, there are more important priorities for use of this budget, like allowing an extra team or two to fly. It makes a big difference for teams in Region 10, especially.

Quote from: rmc1982 on February 23, 2024, 02:17:45 PMWhile I agree they DESERVE to be in I dont know if the NCAA Selection Committee will put 4 teams from a conference in UNLESS they win the tournament.I really hope I'm wrong but I don't think its as much of a lock as you think it is, Macon.

They don't think about it that way.  If the team is the best on the board, it goes in.

It certainly hasn't stopped the NESCAC or UAA from getting four teams in.

Quote from: tomt4525 on February 22, 2024, 10:16:58 PMFunny Eckardt can call that shot off but couldn't call a shot clock violation near the end of the first half on a desperation 3 for RF.  Everybody in the gym saw that didn't leave the hand before the shot clock except the 3 guys in stripes.

Two guys in stripes. One tried to get them to overrule.
