Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

It would be interesting to compare a few years of the pre-season pools with the final results and see how close they have been to predicting success.  I would think that the individual places wouldnt be as important as say how many of the top 5/top 10 etc remained in those catagories.

There is so much that happens in a year in the colege ranks (player development, recruiting etc) that doesnt (I think) happen as much at the pro level that I will bet there is a good amount of volatility.

Where could I find past lists of pre season polls?

Not at all...facts are what they are. I know full well Wooster racks up a lot of wins over inferior competition, and so does St. Scholastica.

What's Wooster's NCAA postseason record in that time?
That would be 8-10, and just 2-8 outside of 2005. Bet that one shocks some people.

By contrast, Marietta in that time is 26-11 in the NCAA postseason with a championship trophy and two runner-up trophies.

Cortland's 22-11 since 2003 (the link to 1999-2002 on their site is broken).
Chapman is 32-15.
Eastern Connecticut State is 33-13.

I'm pretty satisfied with being in that company despite getting rooked out of a couple of tournament trips, and having 3 appearances in the title game in 8 years, especially given how the system worked during a few of those.

I noted that:

The he top 4 are without a championship.

9 of the top 30 have never made the championship round including #1 St. Scholastica

the top 30 have combined for about half of all champships.

Spence, between 1999-2002 Cortland had a combined post-season record of 16-9 which would make them 38-20 since 1999 but we're talking about records from 2000-2007 so taking away 1999 would make them 33-17.

Thanks. That's a whole lotta postseason baseball.

You're very welcome Spence!  Numerically speaking, it's a full season's worth of post-season games.  Wouldn't mind seeing them (Cortland) win a national championship for their efforts.

They have come very close in the past.  I think they should have an opportunity again this year as they are my pick to represent the NY region.

Living dangerously are you? ;)

Unless someone gets moved in from New England, over the past decade this has been about as safe a bet as you can get. It would be nice if they combined the NY and NE regions. Still give them two regionals, but make them interchangeable. Travelwise there's no reason not to really. Cortland's a very good program, though, regardless of region.

You know me never afraid to go out on a limb.

I suspect that Texas Lutheran got left off of this list because they didn't join division III and the American Southwest Conference until 2001, but since then TLU has a .788 winning percentage in conference play with a record of 123-33. Considering the fact that their non-conference schedule is usually fairly suspect with teams like Huston-Tillitson and a bunch of pretty awful teams from the north/central I suspect it MAY be even higher.

In the past nine seasons the Bulldogs have a a .771 winning percentage so I'd venture that they'd be in the top 6 or so on the list if you just looked at 2001-2007. I couldn't find any actual archives in order to clarify for certain.

Kean from 2000-2007 is .704 (237-99-2).  This would put them in a tie with Augustana.
