This is not your grandfather's MSOE. They can crush the ball.

Apparently so an UW-Whitewater. :)

Unfortunately for them it did appear to be your grandfather's pitching.  It didn't help them that the wind was blowing out to left field.  Ryan Newman (3x4, 2 DBL, 3 RBI) and DJ Ellifson (2x3, DBL, RBI) had over half of their hits and accounted for all of their runs. Ellifson also made a great diving catch after a long run to a ball that was falling in front of him in center.

And with that same wind blowing out to left field at 20 mph, MSOE didn't crush any.

Unfortunately for Concordia Wisconsin, even though they are only 1 game back of first place Concordia Chicago heading into the final day of the regular season, they will require the Cougars to lose to basement dwelling Lakeland to have a chance to make that up.

So it looks like CUC will claim their 5th straight regular season title (and 7th overall, no other team has more than 3).

Pat, I know that when a conference drops below the required number of teams playing a specific sport that they have a time frame in which they maintain the automatic bid (two years?).  Would the WIAC adding IIT for the 2018 season and reaching the required number to maintain the automatic bid restart the time frame in which it had before it lost the automatic bid?

Does the fact that IIT is still a provisional D3 member (2018 will be their final year of transition) change the answer to that question?

A big final weekend of the regular season here in the NACC, as five teams are alive for the two spots to join Aurora, Benedictine, Concordia Chicago and Concordia Wisconsin in the conference tournament.

Dominican and Wisconsin Lutheran control their own destinies for the spots - the Stars have four games left at bottom teams Lakeland (Fri) and Marian (Sat), while the Warriors travel to Aurora on Saturday. Should either of those teams drop a game, MSOE could clinch a spot with a home sweep over Rockford, while the Regents are a game back of those 3 teams and likely need a sweep themselves to have a chance. Finally, Edgewood is also a game back but has the toughest draw, hosting 2nd place CUW.

Whatever the answer is, I don't think this will change it. I believe the rules now allow schools in their third or fourth year of transition to count toward the seven.

With the first games complete this afternoon, Concordia Chicago has clinched a share of the regular season title with CUW's loss to Edgewood.

Wisconsin Lutheran's loss to Aurora moves MSOE into the top 6 for now along with Dominican who each won their first games. Rockford was eliminated from postseason contention with their loss to the Raiders, while the four other teams are all still alive (though Edgewood and WLC would require some help).
