98 percent of people logging onto SC Times chats now have to change their questions for Gary and Frank since they can no longer complain about Ramler. They can use the rest of the offseason to think of new ones, while also brushing up on basic grammar skills.

I hate to see Ramler go too and he was actually my second choice for head gig after Grant, but at the same time the offense last year was one of the lowest-scoring units in decades at SJU. Whoever takes over should be expected to give that a boost.

Scandal of the century: Ramler leaves after one year.

Scandal of the millennium: Tommie OC replaces him.

I for one want to congratulate Kurt on his new Head Coaching position. You can't fault a guy who wants to move forward in his career. Look at it this way, Gary is what,55... so he has possibly 10 years at the helm (unless the wheels fall off...which they won't) so does Kurt sit tight for 10 years and hope he get the Head Coaching position after Gary retires? That's painting oneself into a corner if you ask me. I have no idea if Kurt wants to move to a higher division or if he wants to stay in D3. Could he "come home" to SJU to replace Gary in 10-15 years to close out his career? Who knows,it's all idle speculation. He had to do what he felt was best for his personal situation. Good for him.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

You speak with wisdom, 105.  I regret the development all the same.

In other news, there is a footy addict posting to YouTube.  You want the whole exciting Essendon/Hawthorn game with no commercials?  Here you go:

Pregame show

First Quarter

Second Quarter

Third Quarter

Fourth Quarter

Post Game Show

How long this content stays there before this guy gets a copyright banning I have no idea, but he's been doing obvious bad things for a long time.  He also posts multiple complete analysis shows from various networks.  Maybe he's the Commissioner's son.

x2!  Kurt is a class act, and I wish him nothing but the best.  It sucks for SJU, but I am happy for a truly nice person.

After your grammar complaint, I feel compelled to point out this sentence.   :P

Great fishing story from SJU...good thing the passengers on the boat weren't foolish and wore their life jackets.

cute... worthy of a chuckle

RE: Ramler--- good news for CSS, although I've heard from a few sources that Ramler irritated parents/players @ Carleton, a contingent of whom were happy to see him gone (that said, can anyone name a single coach who hasn't drawn the ire of a portion of the players/parents over his/her coaching tenure? I can't). Definitely a good move for Kurt and for CSS.

Next step for SJU-- promoting Jimmy to OC....groom him to take over as HC....sounds good to me  :D

RE: CSS in the MIAC--  they had applied for membership about 15 years ago and it was voted down primarily because enough MIAC members felt the conference would be too large with a 14th member  (13 women's programs & 12 men's). Former Commish Carlyle Carter was a staunch supporter, wanting to return the MIAC footprint to Duluth and encompass the entire state, but the effort failed.  From all I've heard, CSS is happy being one of the big boys in the UMAC and it (& NWU, which had explored joining the MIAC in the 80s/90s) have no desire to join the MIAC at this time.

Nebraska Wesleyan wanted to join the MIAC?   8-)
A lot has changed in the UMAC in 15 years.  Moved to D3, added some good schools and kicked out Presentation.  There is nowhere to go but up.  Besides, the MIAC has too many teams and plays too many conference games.

I think as an institution, though, St. Scholastica identifies itself more with the MIAC than with the UMAC. I believe they still want in.

I think Ramler taking this job is a sign that CSS would like to join the MIAC.

Boys of Fall

Not taking a shot at anybody, but aside from maybe sitting at the top of the conference, what does the UMAC have to offer CSS that the MIAC doesn't?

repete

Sitting at the top brings some post-season AQs that are a lot easier to to reach.

Baseball, where they'd be a good MIAC team, has owned it. Soccer, where'd they'd be decent, is another. MIAC would be a better hockey conference with them in it.

QuoteWith Ramler's extensive background in the MIAC, Olson was asked if that signaled another push to switch leagues. St. Scholastica had twice applied to join the MIAC, only to be turned down. Olson said until the MIAC lifts its moratorium on expansion, if ever, it's a moot point.

"It's impractical," Olson said. "They're perfectly happy where they're at, and we're happy where we're at."
