Walston I agree 100% about Wartburg players/fans remembering the Coe slip up of a few years ago.  I was talking to a certain 3pt specialist for Wartburg and one of the film girls about that horrible homecoming game.  The chants of Freddy! Freddy! before the game and then the return that kinda made everyone quiet.

There is no Freddy but Suckow is pretty amazing when healthy, if he is healthy by that point in the season it should be a fun game to watch.

WH
Have you heard of many CR connections making there way to camp? In talking with your raio mate a few weeks back, there was potential for some fine players right out of Coe's backyard.

"Typical Duhawk?" What the heck does that mean?

Yeah, I'd agree with The Show that 90 players per recruiting class is probably too large.  It seems hard to believe that many guys are going to want to stick around and never see any playing time. I am curious if they know this coming in, or if they are under the impression that they are going to play.

Walston Hoover

When something special is happening, a lot of guys want to be a part of it.

Spurrier - That's awesome. Best of luck.  Try not to get chucked!!

Shoot - I agree that it is a very large number, but if 90 players want to take part in the program, then let 'em take part.  Worst case senario, if it doesn't work out for some of them, they're still getting a good education.

I understand that after the first week there aren't quite as many first year players at the "burg as there were last weekend. :(  That happens.  Some kids find out the change from high school to college is much bigger move than they thought it would be.  Unfortunately, there are always a few who think that the big change only happens if you jump to the D1 level.  Those kind of kids are in for a rude awakening. :o

All 90 or so of the players who moved in last weekend were something special on the high school team they played for last season. 8)  It doesn't make any difference if he is from Wadena, Iowa or Kissimmee, Florida.  Last year he was a stud.  Occasionally a player suddenly discovers he doesn't like being 5th team offensive guard. :-[  It is hard for him to look into the future and understand that Walston Hoover will graduate.  His time may come then, but if he has never had to wait it can be a blow to his ego. :'(

Harbor is right.  At least the kids who hang up their cleats are in a location where they will get a good education.  Perhaps not playing football will allow them the opportunity to explore other interest. ;)

The player who sticks it out for four years, whether he is an All-American or a reliable backup, will have a wonderful experience of being part of a very special football program. ;D

Coo Coo - Pretty much my thoughts exactly.  We'll need to perform very well in the non-conference games if we want to get a second team in.  Hopefully, your Kohawks will fare much better vs. the Tommies.

Warthog - That's about what I expected would happen.  That's a lot of high school talent to waste away, but like you said, the talent was just that....High School.  This is college, and not everyone can be a stud.  Nature of the beast.

Best of luck to all teams during two-a-days.

I can definitely sleep better at night knowing that the only school with quality athletics and a quality education in the whole IIAC is at Wartburg College.

Lance Harbor

Lorbec47 - Great!! ;)   I tell you what, I also sleep better at night knowing that Wartburg gets to play their home opener on their actual field.  I take comfort in that.

shoottoscore

Athletics.... yes.... Wartburg clearly has everyone beat right now
Academics---- I hope you were being sarcastic.... the only school? Maybe 3rd or 4th best. But I honeslty don't wantto debate that on this board so all you WArtburg fans (most of the board) just save your breath- nothing you can say would change my mind- you got the orange blinders man!

I see your point that your football dropouts are still going to get an education and that is great. But my bigger question is are they being misled in the recruiting process? Recruited hard, ego stroked, led to believe they CAN play at the 'burg, then screwed over after the first week? I don't know this to be the case, I am just asking. It does seem to me that the Wartburg coaching staff aggresively goes after most of these kids in the recruiting process. If that is the case, I'm not sure that is being very fair to the kids when they could have gotten an education and possible PLAYED at some of the other schools. If they go into this knowing all the facts and that they probably won't play, then power to them for choosing that school.

3rd or 4th best? Who are you kidding? Knowing the coaching staff 1st hand, I doubt that there are too many promises made. They need to show their stuff on the field, Plain & simple!!!

Hold on here, the only person that said Wartburg was the only place for athletics and academics was Lorbec and I know he's not a Wartburg fan. Don't go getting your panties in a bunch. As for recruiting, at least in my day(7 years ago now, but still with Willis at the helm) There were no promises of playing time. I saw something special at Wartburg and I wanted to be a part of it and help it happen. I know a lot of D3 coaches and they all like to get in front of as many guys as possible, then get as many of them on campus as possible. After that, if guy wants to be a part of it, Do you think the coaches are going to turn the kid down?
