A few more Hope-Calvin observation...

1. While Hope missed a lot at the rim a close look at stats shows they also only had 3-4 assists. Why? Inside-out wasn't there. When it went to Granger on the block - my opinion - he was so hell bent on shutting up the raucous Calvin students who rode him like a rented mule that once it went in it was going up. Don't care who you are or your toughness, he was getting a loud and constant earful and I think it got him out of the game.

2. Jake Honer's perimeter D was missed. Feel like he could have quelled the Shymanski outburst by sticking tighter to him.

3. Gamm should have played more. While he needs to be more of a threat on O, he's the best defender Hope has. He played roughly 15 min coming off injury and in that time held DeVries scoreless.

4. Sometimes shooters get hot. That was the case last night. Teams are really pretty evenly matched. Should be a battle again at DeVos. Hoping the Dew Crew Can bring it like the Calvin students last night.

Side note, one ref was looking at the monitor when his crew mate went down hurt, anyone who watched at home know why? Speculation was maybe a student interfered, but really no idea.

The injured ref was the one who made the foul call.  The crew mate (Kevin Kooiker) was looking at the monitor to verify who was fouled and who committed the foul.

Just saw a retweet by HoopDirt.com:

"A D3 Elite Eight team with a head coach on the move.  Announcement coming shortly..."

JVW to Calvin perhaps?

FDF invites Calvin fans to kick the ball...

Somebody pulled the ball away...

I think Kzoo's in year 3 or 4 of home greys, I don't hate them either (or Hope's) but its just not Kzoo, or Hope.   And for Hope to do it after Kzoo has already established grey as a home court jersey is kind of lame...ish.     :-\

They def. need blue in them

Yeah, that is kind of lame given that K College already adopted it. I must say I think I do kind of like this look though. But let me first show the photos to that inestimable fine arts major, Mrs. Oldknight, and she can tell me whether I like. ::)

It's not copying Kzoo when it's not just gray, but "Graves Hall Gray" ;)

This was pointed out to me tonight, thoughts?

Wednesday Feb 4, 2015

6 pm   Hope at Calvin  --men
8 pm   Olivet at Calvin  --women

Calvin actually has 3 6pm starts in a row on Wednesday
Perhaps the upheaval that has changed Michigan high school basketball in the name of parity has come to college?

Kudos to Hope for a very good product streamed online.  My family watching at home did get a few chuckles on the commentary.  Especially when the Calvin faithful were chanting the inevitable and infamous Rasheed Wallace "ball don't lie" following a miss on the first free throw of the Dykstra tech - the play-by-play guy informed us they were saying "ball go high"!

Does anyone know if Hope will have a video feed of this weekend's GRSHOF games?

The fact this question can't be answered with a 'Yes' is embarrassing in the year 2012.

Amen

One other thing I find interesting is Hope has 7 players from out of state.  I'm pretty sure this is the most by far Hope's ever had.  Last year was probably the previous most with 4.

It's nice to see Hope becoming more 'international'. :)

Counting Jordan Denham, Hope has 8 guys from outside of the typical 'West Michigan' area.

Literally international with a Bulgarian on the JV...now that's recruiting!

Calvin roster now posted.
http://www.calvin.edu/sports/mens/basketball/roster.htm

Interesting it currently lists 17 on varsity including 3 unnumbered freshmen.

Calvin's top recruiting target in the class of '14 got some ink in today's Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20111027/OPINION03/110270316

Perhaps if Calvin initiates a football program, they too can offer the opportunity to play both football and basketball to combat the offers of Michigan State and Michigan.   ;) ;)

Next season's schedule for the Knights: http://www.calvin.edu/sports/mens/basketball/schedule.htm
KVS slotted a road game to Anderson (in region, I believe) before the home opener with Grace Bible (minus Alan Durham).  Still have Trinity Christian on the schedule (uggh) and two games with Aquinas (double uggh).  The holiday tourney takes the Knights to the Pacific Northwest, and Hope returns to the middle of the conference schedule rotations, instead of the league opener.

One in-region non-conference game......I thought it was easy.  After a year or two worth of rumors, I'm not excited to the Hall of Fame Classic still holding on by its finger nails.

Willamette, Whitworth and Whitman.......going for the triple-doubleyou :)

According to the schedule, the Hall of Fame will no longer be a true tournament (Fridays' winners play each other).  Calvin is playing Cornerstone on Friday and Aquinas on Saturday.  Perhaps Calvin v. Hope won't happen 4 or 5 times next year....

Well, it's either going to be a great day for Calvin basketball or a bad day for the Snikkers family...

And Alma has a "partial" roster posted.  Only 8 players, including sophomore Lance Jongekrijg from Zeeland (was on the state runner up team with Nate Snuggerud).

http://www.alma.edu/athletics/mens/basketball/roster

I'm not sure what this is.....Weiss and Ginther were both listed as Sr's last season,   Brown, Schneider, Erickson and Randall's classes haven't changed.  Only Sheridan and Jongekrijg's class seem to be correct.

I think Thursday is the coaches conference call, I imagine all the rosters will be updated by then (and hopefully accurate)

What do they do for the conference call?

Same thing they did when they had media day.  Talk about their teams and pick pre-season poll. etc.   They just do it by conference call now, or at least thats my understanding.
According to the MIAA schedule, the coaches have a conference call on Thursday, November 4

Now that the May 1 college decision day has come and gone, has Calvin received confirmation on its recruits? Last I heard, they were looking good for Tyler Kruis, Jalen Bouma, Mitchel Vallile, and Jacob Greene, with Jordan Brink of Illiana Christian a possibility.

It doesn't appear that Jordan Brink is a likely possibility since he was actively pursuing an athletic scholarship (including GVSU) until his pursuit was temporarily derailed with a foot injury.

Per Jordan Brink's Facebook page:  He's a Knight.

Huh...that's what I get for relying on newspaper articles rather than the definitive source: facebook!
