Bombers pitchers are flat out DEALING. Prendergast tosses a 4-hitter, allows only one run in 8 innings. Bombers win 4-1

Now, it gets real. Ithaca's used their top 2 starters and Jimmy Wagner closed out the 9th today. I'd have to think Val will go with Andrew Sanders tomorrow.

Bombers798891

Amherst upsets Cortland 6-3. Red Dragons have not looked good in this regional. Amherst and Ithaca play tomorrow, while Cortland looks to hold off elimination

Bombers798891

RPI and Farmingdale are playing in a horrible game. 5-4 Farmingdale in the 8th. The teams have combined for 7 errors, leading to six unearned runs.

Bombers798891

HUGE pickoff by Jasper Adams with a runner on second, one out, in the sixth. Next batter singles, but Adams gets out of it.

Bombers lead 3-2 in the 7th...

Bombers798891

Ithaca wins 3-2 behind Jasper Adams. Jimmy Wagner closes it out.

The Bombers are in the catbird seat right now. Andrew Sanders gets the start tomorrow, and the Bombers have to feel good with him on the mound. If he falters, ace Pat Lemmo will be ready to go on Sunday. Cortland/RPI battle for the shot at Amherst

CState dispatches RPI..... Takes on Amherst to see who gets a shot at the Bombers! CState is deep on the mound, look for this to go to a Sunday deciding game! #WishfulThinkingCstateAlum
In sports it's not how you start, its how you finish!

Who goes for Cortland today?

McClain threw 121 pitches Wednesday
Barkley threw 84 Thursday
Hughes threw 103 Friday
Badanes threw 112 Friday

The only other pitchers who have stated games this year for Cortland are Brandon Serio, John Molloy, Matt Holling and Brandon Nemeti. Unless there's something else Joe Brown has up his sleeve (and I'd never count him out), two of those guys have to go today. I'd assume Serio (4-1, 1.45) takes one of the spots.  Ithaca shelled Molloy, Holling, and Nemeti earlier this year. Molloy also threw 40 pitches on Thursday. But if you're Cortland, can you risk saving Serio for the night game against the Bombers?

Now for Amherst.

John Cook threw 98 pitches Wednesday
Bob Cook threw 114 Thursday
Fred Shepard threw 107 Friday

The only other pitchers with starts are Dylan Driscoll, Charles Nutter, Quinn Saunders, and Keenan Szulik. But Szulik has only thrown five innings all season, and Saunders has thrown 8 2/3, giving up 16 hits and 6 walks in that span.

So it seems like the only two options are Driscoll and Nutter, and Driscoll threw 40 pitches two days ago.

Frankly, I bet Cortland beats Amherst unless Driscoll can come back on short rest. But honestly, both teams probably want some rain today.

Ithaca's running low on pitchers too (I'm not entirely sure who they;ll go to in relief of Andrew Sanders today--I guess Wagner could work three days in a row. I'm surprised Jasukonis didn't throw on Thursday with the three run lead.

Unless Cortland finds its bats .........it won't matter.

If anything this season, hitting has been a disappointment. Believe J. Brown thought this crew would score and score and  ....... Hasn't happened. You look at Corts' averages and they appear to dispute that hitting theory. But t'aint so. Clutch hitting has left a lot to be desired.

The upside on the season is pitching. Guess here is Cortland will have ALL hands on deck today .....an inning apiece?

Driscoll for Amherst, Serio for Cortland in the first game, I would think (and hope, as it seems pretty obvious).

I don't know who Ithaca will throw today (I would think Wagner), but I know who they'll throw if they play tomorrow.

Cortland jumps out to a 2-0 lead over Amherst in the 1st inning on a 2 out RBI single by DH P. J. Rinaldi. After another hit by 1b Max Rosing, a flyball hit by 3b Anthony Iacomini was misplayed in right field and allowed Rinaldi to score. Red Dragons need to win this game and 2 more against Ithaca to win the regional. Tough to do but not impossible.

I think they'll throw Andrew Sanders, who beat Cortland earlier this season. Wagner closed the last two games

Cortland with a run in the bottom of the 8th to increase their lead to 3-1. Amherst 3 outs left to avoid elimination. Red Dragons Cody Petre in for the 5 out save as he came on in the bottom of the 8th with a man on 2nd and 1 out.

Cortland advances to a 5 PM matchup against Ithaca as they defeat Amherst 3-1 to eliminate the Lord Jeffs.

Brandon Serio with the win as he gives up only 4 hits and 1 unearned run in 7.1 innings pitched. He had 3 K's and didn't walk a batter.
Cody Petre with a 5 out save. Made it a little dicey in the top of the ninth as he gave up a leadoff single, got a groundout and a popup, but gave up another single to put the tying run on base. He then got a routine groundout to second for the final out.

Dylan Driscoll took the loss for Amherst. He went 7 innings, gave up 8 hits and yielded 2 runs, one of which was unearned.

Cortland with 10 hits led by Max Rosing with 3, Zack Graczyk with 2 and Tim Panetta with 2. P.J.Rinaldi scored a run and drove in a run and Panetta had an RBI as well. Rosing and Graczyk scored the other Cortland runs.

Amherst was led by Nic Meyer with a pair of hits and he scored their only run.  Nolan Stewart with a hit and the lone RBI.

Cotland line score 3 runs 10 hits 2 errors.
Amherst line score 1 run  6 hits 1 error.

WOW, neither team screwing around. McClain and Lemmo starting today. Bombers lead 2-0 in the bottom of the third.

McClain throws two innings, allows two hits and two walks

forheavendial4999

I figured Lemmo would be tomorrow. I guess the thinking is to try to jump on them while they're short on arms.
