Congratulations to Trine and Calvin on advancing to the Sweet 16. Plenty of drama this weekend and a great showing for our league.
Keep it rolling, Thunder and Knights.

I was able to get a quick peak at the Calvin-Davenport scrimmage (I had dinner plans with friends so had to leave after the fist 20-minute stanza), but it was enough to get the saliva flowing for the upcoming season. The Panthers starting five had plenty of talent but they didn't play very well together and their bench was thin compared to Calvin's. It will be interesting to see how the Knights fare against Ferris State, a far more gifted and well-coached group than Davenport's. That game is an exhibition, rather than a scrimmage.

Thanks, FDF, for your devoted digging and diving into the data dumpster of MIAA men's hoops. Should be yet another exciting season. I'm getting my first look at the 23-24 Knights at a scrimmage tonight at VNA. Davenport U is providing the competition.

Calvin's roster is up:
https://calvinknights.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster
Just a few newbies to complement last year's roster for the 23-24 Knights.
A pair of transfers in Trip Riemersma and Vince Overway along with a pair of true freshman cracking the varsity, Jordan Scott and Sam Lewis (although Lewis also appears on the JV roster, so he's likely to see very limited floor time on the varsity).
All of last year's fab freshman are back, along with redshirt Brady Ewing and Michael Morris, who was out with an injury most of last year.
I have a hunch Calvin fans are eager to see how Coach Sall melds this group into a top-tier squad.

Perhaps, although I'm not sure the three MIAA examples fit that bill other thatmaybeSVSU to Calvin. Kalamazoo to Hope or transferring as a senior don't seem to be educationally motivated.

May 29, 2023, 08:58:04 AMQuote from: TUAngola on May 28, 2023, 07:23:31 PMI believe Calvin's opponents in the GLI (hosted at Wittenberg) were Marietta and LaRoche. It will be a very challenging schedule -- and all D3! No more Grace (Bible Tigers) Christian U!!
Calvin's MBB 2023-2024 schedule it out:
https://calvinknights.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
Very challenging non-conference schedule including games against 3 from the WIAC; La Crosse, Stevens Point, and Platteville, the latter as part of the Trine holiday tournament held between Christmas and New Years. That tourney also includes a very good Berry GA squad. Other notable games are Wheaton and St Norbert plus two games in the Great Lakes Invitational.

Congrats to Hope for gamely winning three games in three nights to capture the automatic bid. Hope's veteran presence showed tonight and Calvin's inexperience bit the Knights at some key moments. It was unfortunate that both Egekeze and Ressler struggled to score tonight, but credit Hope's stout defense for some of that. To our friends in Holland: Represent our conference well. See you next year.
