Six months and three weeks until kickoff. We haven't even reache the mid point of the off season yet. I wish I was a bear that could curl up in a cave and hibernate.

An eelpout is a fish--a nasty, slimy creature with a cult following.  Technically, they're known as burbot, but eelpout is a regional term.  It's a freshwater cousin to the cod.  As for the festival, in MN, we like excuses to brave the cold and drink a lot of beer.

Thanks for the explanation. I had a difficult time trying to imagine a "pouting" eel.  By the way, is this "nasty, slimy creature" worse than that weapon of mass destruction known as lutefisk?   ::)

Kindly advise soonest ....

I want to go back to school.  Look at the new SJU baseball stadium.  "Stadium" not "field".  Gee wiz, it's like a four year theme-park holiday on the parents' and taxpayers' dimes.  Dang.

I've never eaten one, but I hear they're delicious.  They are actually known as "poor man's lobster" around here.  The nastiness comes from the copious amount of slime they have on their skin and their tendency to wrap themselves around your arm when you pick one up.

A tradition unrivaled...

Any buddy else see think the headline of this story is misleading?  Should future D3 participate in "signing" ceremonies?

As London Fletcher Tweeted yesterday- "D3 doesn't have a National Signing Day,you just show up for the first day of practice"
Faunch-you are closer to the situation, being in the teaching profession, but is this part of the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality of the kids today....?

I think at one level it's an attempt to recognize hard working kids that have given a lot of time to the the school and a sport and will soon be moving on to the next phase of their sports career.  At the same time I believe it's in part due to the "let's make sure to recognize everybody" that is becoming more and more prevalent in kids sports and activities.  Other reasons this is done is for the parents and as publicity for the the school.  The reality is that the general public doesn't even understand what it means to sign a letter of intent.

Maybe so, but at least you have the AFL starting in a month or so and with your new MCC affiliation you'll be sitting pretty.   :)
What are the prospects for your Hawks this year?

The Hawks are favored (I should spell favoured) to win it all. Yeah, we'll see.  But yesterday all betting on the AFL season was suspended by one agency and the other bookies are getting nervous.

Kubiak, are you still busting skulls with that Aussie who supports Essendon?  Two days it came out that the club had systemically violated the drug rules all year. The club was doping the players, every single player on the side. The club doctor giving injections and masking agents to beat testing. It all fell apart when a player refused to go along this year. It's threatening to bring the whole league administration down. It could happen that the AFL gets reorganized under a new administration scheme. It's baseball's problems on steriods (so to speak) down here.
