Appreciate all your coverage NM, but I need to intervene on your " power" rankings. If they are true end of season rankings, you've misspelled a few schools in the 2-4 category. Wes at 2, Tufts at 3, Midd at 4 is prob the correct order. If it's a compilation of the entire season, I can live with your top 4.

Shocking that Trinity played such a tight game with Midd is as much a quandry as the Amherst W over the Elephants.

Tufts drops 65 on the "#2" team and you still have them at 4th? Someone must not have been watching the tape. Record-be-damned, Tufts was clearly the second best team in the league. They lost their 3 games by 10 points, and wreaked havoc on both sides of the ball. After watching games around the league all season, they were the clear #2 (can't rightly call them #1 given Trin being undefeated). Midd and Wes are 3 and 4 respectively.

2022 NESCACMAN Final Power Rankings

Here are our FINAL rankings for 2022 and our annual NESCACMAN Awards. Once again, thanks to those that followed us this year on the D3 Boards and on Twitter. Congratulations to Hartford State on winning the NESCAC title and an undefeated 9-0 season. Congratulations to all the team MVPs and our 2022 NESCACMAN award winners.

1). Hartford State Bantams (9-0; Last Week: 1): Third undefeated 9-0 season in the history of the NESCAC. Competitive game against Wesleyan who led into the 3rd quarter. First downs were essentially even and Hartford State outgained the Cardinals by a mere 43 yards. Wesleyan missed the other half of their QB tandem, David Estevez, who tried to play after a high ankle sprain against Williams. He was only in two plays. At the end of the day, the better team won. Hartford State will reload for the 2023 campaign and replace key performers like Casagrande and Reid with underclassman waiting in the wings. 2022 Team MVP(s): Spencer Fetter, Noah Glantz.

2). Middlebury Panthers (7-2; LW: 2): Good year for Middlebury exceeding our expectations and coming in second in the NESCAC. Exclamation point on a fine career by HCOF Ritter. Tufts showed why they had the #1 in total offense in the league in smashing the Pants. At the end of the day, lack of ability to defend the pass killed them against Tufts. Middlebury should be in good shape in 2023 led by QB Cole Kennon. They definitely need to make some improvements on defense, in particular, the secondary heading into 2023.  2022 Team MVP: Cole Kennon.

3). Wesleyan Cardinals (6-3; LW: 3): Despite the loss to Hartford State, congratulations to Wes on winning their 2nd outright Little Three title in 3 years and 3rd in 6 years, something not accomplished by the Cardinals since 1966 to 1970. Let's not forget that Wes did not win one single Little Three title from 1971 to 2012, a span of 43 years. The latest run is a huge step forward for the program. Wesleyan played well, despite the eventual loss in Hartford. Of course, HCOF Jeff couldn't help himself by tacking on a meaningless touchdown at the end of the game when he could have run out the clock by taking a knee. Future is bright for the Cardinals as they return most of their starters (7 on defense and 8 on offense) including QB "1b" Niko Candido as well as potentially returning stars/All-NESCACers Nick Helbig at DT and WR Logan Tomlinson. 2022 Team MVP(s): Nick Helbig, Logan Tomlinson.

4). Tufts Jumbo's (6-3; LW: 4): As predicted, Tufts passing game was in record form against the woefully undermanned Middlebury secondary. Finished the year strong. They return the best QB in the NESCAC next year, Michael Berluti, but lose top receiver Phil Lutz. Defense is still a work in progress. Playing as well as any team in the league at the end of the year winning their last three games and outscoring their opponents by a combined 149-54. 2022 Team MVP(s): Michael Berluti, Phil Lutz.

5). Colby White Mules (4-5; LW: 5):
Ended the season on a sour note losing their last 3 games and not achieving their stated goal of having a winning season. Very poor effort against an undermanned Bowdoin squad. It might be time for a coaching changing in Waterville. Colby has theoretically lowered their football admission standards to Hartford State-type levels yet have delivered the results thus far. We would say QB and skill players should be high on their off-season shopping list. 2022 Team MVP: Julian Young.

6). Williams Purple Cows (3-6; LW:6): End the season on a high note with a win at home against Amherst. Gives them something to build on for 2023. Like many teams in the NESCAC, they'll be looking for a QB and someone for him/her to throw to in 2023. 2022 Team MVP: Joel Nicholas.

7). University of Bates Bobcats (Lewiston Campus)(3-6; LW: 7): UBates finishes season on the high note as we predicted by beating the Wobegon Hamilton Continentals. Now the fun begins for HCOF Coyne as he starts to build the Bobcats with his own recruits. We think 2023 could be a step back before moving forward with a sophomore dominated team in 2024. Looking forward to seeing what he builds over the next couple of seasons. 2022 Team MVP(s): Christian Olivieri, Tony Hooks.

8). Amwurst Lord Mammoths (2-7; LW: 8): Forgetful year for the Lord Mammoth finishes with a loss to rival Williams. 2nd losing record in the last 3 years for the LMs. Decent defensively but pathetic offense. Need playmakers all over the field on offense to be more completive in 2023. 2022 Team MVP: Andy Skirzenski.

9). Bowdoin Polar Bears (3-6; LW: 9): Major victory for this historically inept program in getting to three wins. Did the 3rd win save HCOF Hammer's job? Only time will tell. Getting QB Boel back healthy in 2023 will be a major goal. Lose a lot of talent on defense (Ortiz and Jacobs). May have problems keeping teams under 30 points per game next year. 2022 Team MVP(s): Max Jacobs, Drew Ortiz.

10). Hamilton Continentals (2-7; LW: 10): Program seems to be moving the wrong direction. Are they in the wrong league? Maybe it's time for a leadership change? Seems like a century ago that this offense featured Kenny Grey, Joe Schmidt & Co. and actually looked competent. Team MVP: Chase White.

2022 NESCACMAN Offensive Co-Players of the Year: Michael Berluti, Phil Lutz, Tufts.
2022 NESCACMAN Defensive Player of the Year: Nick Helbig, Wesleyan.
2022 NESCACMAN Special Teams Player of the Year: Matthew Jumes, Hartford State.
2022 NESCACMAN Rookie of the Year: Tyler DiNapoli, Hartford State.
2022 NESCACMAN Coach of the Year: Bob Ritter, Middlebury.

NESCACMAN's Picks (winners):
2022 Season: 31-14 (2-3 last week)
2021 Season: 33-12
2020 Season: 0-0
2019 Season: 33-12

Correct, as in 7-2 is good for 2nd place.

I tell you if Tufts wants to move up rankings win more games. Instead of complaining on rankings complain about the following.

Trying two back to back fake field goals against Trinity and loosing by 7. Could have won that game and put them in solid position to make a run at first place.

Try looking at your team lost to an anemic Amherst team.

How about loosing to Wesleyan with your high powered offense having the ball on last drive.

Look at your team realistically instead of as a fan. They are a fourth place team but have gained ground on the top teams and are improving. Great offense and If they get solid recruiting they may crack the top three. Right now you should be concerned at the fact that Assistant Coaches are going to be leaving the program and the new DC was not the answer as thought.

Scoops

Last I checked "Power Rankings" are not the same as "standings". If NM wants to just list the final standings, then it doesn't really warrant a post at all. I could just as easily go and look at the NESCAC website to figure out final records.

Also Charlie, if you bothered to look at the NESCAC website, you would see that the Tufts defense  is in the upper tier of scoring in the league. Garbage time TDs against their backups in several games are really all that separates them from being 2nd in the league in that category. I guarantee if you asked any of the coaches in the league, there's no way anyone wanted to play Tufts at the end of the year. Hence why they should be second in the POWER rankings. But feel free to continue to hate the Jumbos for whatever slight they perpetrated against you. And to bash their recruiting is insane. I'm pretty sure most teams would kill for any of their players, and their ability to recruit effectively outside of New England. If anything, Civetti would be an idiot to try and recruit like the rest of the league. But I'm guessing that's your issue with him. Probably didn't want that all-time sack leader you were so high on. Don't think I saw him on the stat sheet this year by the way.

You are what your record says you are.

Scoops, just an FYI, we didn't just rank the teams by record. We're sure you realize that...

You seem to have a great deal of anger. I am simply saying that Tufts had a great year offensively. However they had a few games that they were not on. Trinity ,  Amherst and Wesleyan. I am taking nothing away from their offensive play. I also did not say anything about the coaching staff except for a few head scratching calls. I beleive Tufts had  a good year.

However I do beleive there mental lapses put them right where they are in the rankings. If you read what I wrote if they can prevent Coaches from leaving and have some good recruiting they can make the jump. They are loosing a great deal of players.

In terms of that player I beleive he had a season ending injury in pre season.

Charlie, perhaps you'll be taken more seriously if you proofread and punctuate correctly? You've been taking unsubstantiated shots at Tufts and others for two years. This is all make believe so do these power rankings really matter? Bottom of that list is equally flawed IMO. Here's a good way to think about it. Seed the Nescac in a bracket and who's playing in the final game? It's not the Pants -that's for certain.

First of all try to be objective. Grammatical errors not withstanding. I have only stated the obvious Tufts has for years suffered from many blunders. You should also look at my recent posts I have done nothing but praise Tufts this year and except for a few blunders which again I have outlined in prior post. Tufts could be better than 4 th place in power rankings. However the errors occurred and loosing to Amherst certainly did not help. I also stated in past messages that Tufts should they keep assistant Coaches and have a good year of recruiting could jump up the ranks. I am looking objectively not as a fan. The past criticism on the program was warranted. However they have upgraded their facilities , had a few good recruiting classes. I think if they can solve their defensive wows and prevent the in game coaching mistakes they could make the jump.

In terms of your opinions on end of season. I have been a proponent of playoffs. This is the exact reason top four teams would get in. Who knows how it would have ended up Maybe 4 th place wins. But that will never happen. Until then this is all we have. You shouldn't feel angry but happy the program appears to be headed in good direction.

Any leads on where he might land? I saw Dice responded to him on twitter saying he would land at an FBS program. Assuming it would be G5 not P5, but it would be very cool to see him on the national stage!

Whatever he decides to do, we are 100% certain he will be successful. He and is family are amazing people and it has been an honor getting to know them and hang out with them the last four years. Thank you for all you have done for Wesleyan football.

Any leads on where he might land? I saw Dice responded to him on twitter saying he would land at an FBS program. Assuming it would be G5 not P5, but it would be very cool to see him on the national stage!

Nick will have opportunities at both the FBS and FCS levels for football. However, pursuing academic and ultimately, career pursuits will be the big driver on where he ends up next year. He'd like to get his MBA and use football to help get him into the best MBA program possible. We know some of the schools he's looking at but wouldn't want to guess at this point where he will end up. Mark our words, whatever he ends up doing, he will be successful at it.

Nick is a very similar player to former NESCACMAN recruit, Joey Slackman, who is lighting it up for UPenn. We recruited Joey to wrestle and play football at Wes from the Island. Unfortunately, Joey decided to go to a second tier school in Philly to wrestle heavyweight for the Quackers. Ultimately, Joey decided to move from the mat to the turf and only play DT for UPenn. Joey has had a great year and was named Ivy player of the week a few games ago. We are friendly with Joey's family and wish him the best as he pursues his dream of playing on Sunday someday. Great student-athlete and great family.

Side note, congratulations to former Wesleyan OL Justin Johnson on just finishing his 5th year at William & Mary and helping them win the CAA Championship. Justin served as a primary back-up on the OL for The Tribe, traveled with the team and did see playing time while also pursuing his MBA at W&M. Roll Justin!

Regarding Helbig -- good riddance :).  But I wish him great success outside of NESCAC!
