Over @ Rhodes for the opening night of basketball. A young Hendrix team is leading Rust College by 10 midway through the 2nd half. Rhodes will host Blackburn in the nightcap.

Centre defeated Piedmont 76-73 in their opener earlier today.  Baschle scored 16 and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Correction on Hendrix-Rust. Rust leads 62-50 with 5 minutes to play.

Rhodes up 47-27 at the half. The Lynx have some nice depth to go along with Avant and Johnson.  Several freshmen are playing extensive minutes and contributing early. Rhodes has a chance to be really stellar this season. Avant is playing with maturity and leadership in this one.

Centre goes to 2-0 with a 65-48 win at LaGrange this afternoon.  Paige Baechle gets 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Maggie Hartlage leads the Colonels with 21 including 5 threes.

:)Centre Ladies are off to a fine start having come out of the gate 4-1 with the only loss coming to #1 DePauw in double overtime 68-64.  Paige Baechle has continued her torrid clip from her junior campaign with 5 consecutive double-doubles in points and rebounds this season.  She is averaging almost 20 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.  The Lady Colonels triumphed tonight against Spaulding University 72-63.  Paige scored 22 and recorded 10 boards; Alanna Guy chipped in 11 points while Bonnie Rhule tallied 10 including 3 triples.

Rhodes Lynx are smoking it early - 47-22 at the half against an outmatched Westminster. Good balance from Rhodes' starting 5. Superior quickness and athleticism have made this one a blowout to this point.

I wish I had been able to get over to Mallory Gym this past Monday to see the Ferrum-Rhodes game which turned into a double-OT thriller going Ferrum's way 79-77.  Rhodes missed too many free throws and played without its senior star Lauren Avant so this was a game within the Lynx's reach that got away from them.  Teams that are physical with some low post presence (Ferrum definitely fits this mold) can present a challenge for Rhodes.  Rhodes oftentimes has the best athletes on the floor in their games but they do not have an imposing presence on the front-line.  I still expect Rhodes will win the SAA title this year with the talent-laden squad they possess.

Rhodes up @ the half on an improved Hendrix team 37-26. The visitors have no answer for the dribble-drive of Lauren Avant who has 17 points.

Centre defeated Sewanee on the road 63-52. Maggie Hartlage tallied 16 and Paige Baechle put in 21 while pulling down 10 rebounds. Centre has begun league play with 4 consecutive wins.

Lady Colonels push out to a 5-0 league record defeating Oglethorpe on the road 60-52 tonight. Paige Baechle leads Centre with 22 points and 14 rebounds.  On to Berry College for a Sunday afternoon game from here.

Lady Colonels defeat Hendrix on the road 66-49.  Paige Baechle tallies 20 with Alexis Guy scoring 14.  Mary Gordon-Stough had a big game as well with 12 points.

Rhodes won a slug-em style game today at Mallory Gym over Centre 66-59.  Rhodes' combination of Avant and Daniels was just too much for the Colonels as this duo had 50 points collectively.  Daniels' seemed to be everywhere on the court when a big play was needed and she produced 28 points in dagger-style fashion each time Centre made a run.  The victory puts the Lynx in the driver's seat in the SAA with a one game lead over Centre and Millsaps.  Paige Baechle had a 16 point 13 rebound effort for the Colonels while the Guy sisters both pitched in with double-figure scoring games.

Rhodes is about to close out a win over Millsaps 62-50.  Lauren Avant has scored 26.

Centre pulled out its 9th SAA win tonight on the road in Birmingham 89-77.  Paige Baechle hit 13-22 from the field in scoring 28 and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the victors.  The Colonels got double-figure scoring from both of the Guy (Alanna & Alexis) sisters and Maggie Hartlage.  This win keeps Centre within striking distance of Rhodes which won at Berry & continues to enjoy a one-game lead in the conference standings.  Centre heads to Jackson to play a tough Millsaps team on Sunday. :)
