Quote from: MaroonKnighty on March 02, 2024, 10:46:54 PMI won a bet tonight regarding the outcome of a game.  Should I request Pliny the Elder or Heady Topper?

Whichever is freshest. Personally, I'd prefer a fresh Pliny. But I'd take a fresh Heady over a 4-month-old Pliny.

Quote from: Flying Dutch Fan on February 29, 2024, 08:50:17 AMTrine should win easily, but Calvin and Hope both have their hands full.  That being said, I think we see 3 MIAA teams playing on Saturday

I think and hope so too. Elmhurst has a bunch of 6'3" guards that can shoot, but I'm not sure small ball is going to work against Calvin (they typically start 6'6" Zapinski alone inside). Ocean Johnson plays bigger than 6'3", but Calvin should have size mismatches pretty much everywhere on the court. I feel similarly about Anderson, and just feel like they're going to really struggle against Gabe, Tanner, and TJ inisde.

Decided to deep dive this with the top three teams in each of the MIAA pods. Based on their final regional rankings and a little subjective cross regional analysis on my part, I ranked them as follows...

1. CWRU
2. John Carroll
3. Trine
4. Calvin
5. Coe
6. Elmhurst
7. Hope
8. Anderson
9. Wabash

strictly by seeding, that should create...

Trine hosting Calvin and Wabash. Avoid MIAA matchup, swap Calvin with Coe. This is what we got.
JCU hosting Calvin and Anderson.
CWRU hosting Elmhurst and Hope.

Instead, they swapped Elmhurst and Anderson.

Quote from: KnightSlappy on February 26, 2024, 07:36:16 PMSeeding should follow the regional rankings. We saw this evening that Calvin finished ahead of Hope and Elmhurst finished ahead of Anderson in their respective regional rankings. This is a seeding miss by the committee in my opinion.

Agreed. Definitely feels like Hope should be at JCU and Calvin at CWRU. Or at least some tweak that didn't place Elmhurst, Calvin, and JCU all in the same pod.

Quote from: pointlem on February 26, 2024, 02:26:48 PMLooks like a great draw for Trine, including home court . . . and a tough draw for Calvin--facing a resurgent Elmhurst for the right to challenge a championship-contender on its home floor.

At first glance, it sure feels like Hope got a slightly better draw than Calvin (Anderson and CWRU will both still be tough) Indicative that they finished ahead of Calvin in the final regional rankings?

Quote from: Grutte Dirk on February 26, 2024, 09:26:19 AMA big Calvin fan told me Trine and Hope were final four quality teams-you you'd think the MIAA would get three in.

They will. But I think a more accurate statement is that all three have shown at times this year that they're capable of playing with/beating anyone. They're also all very capable of getting bounced on a cold shooting night. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the three make the final four. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them not survive the first weekend.

Quote from: calvin_grad on February 24, 2024, 11:44:47 PMDoes the MIAA get 3 teams in?

Yes, Trine and Calvin should both be safely in.

Not that it matters but I'd be interested to see who ends up higher on the final regional rankings, Hope or Calvin.

Quote from: Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan) on February 23, 2024, 08:34:42 AMClark won.  It was WPI who lost.

100% true. Not sure where I was pulling from or thought I saw Clark had lost.

It's all moot if Hope doesn't win tonight.

Clark and Albertus Magnus lost yesterday in upsets. I believe the losses should move Hope ahead of both teams. Shy of a slew of bid stealers, it's feeling more and more likely that if Hope can beat Calvin again tonight, they'll slide to the better side of the bubble. A loss and they're out.

The board is back!!!! YES!!! Oh so many times I wished I had it this season. Top two I can think of were...

1. Wished there was an MIAA pick em... well... I would have done horribly, so...
2. Wished a Trine fan was able to explain to me what in the world happened against Olivet.

I've been getting by on Drew Pasteur's NCAA D3 Bracketology hoping to see Hope move from OUT to BUBBLE IN, all the while fully knowing they haven't and won't without beating Calvin again tomorrow...

Calvin 1 point shy of being ranked #1....

Phew!

Teams that get ranked #1 seem to immediately lose a game and drop in the polls.

John Carroll vs Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday: I'm looking at you.

Uh oh, if you believe that logic, Calvin should be number 1 just in time for the Platteville game

Uh-oh, it's not looking good for Calvin vs. Platteville. Hampden-Syndey is leading John Carroll 62-45 late in the game.

No new poll till the new year, so no worries about Calvin moving up.

Perfect! Number one just in time for January 17th! :)
