Russ Archambault--haven't heard that name in a long time.  Pride of Sartell High School.  ;)

QuoteThere's something about where we are right now, and also something about how competitive we are right now, that feels right for what's expected here.

Interpretation: We'd much rather crush smaller opponents than push ourselves to become better or realize our full potential.

HA!  Very nice...

There might be a bit of truth to that statement, but to some degree, I can appreciate where they're at on choosing D3.  Sure, some of their programs could compete or maybe should compete at a higher level, but moving the entire athletic program up opens up a can of worms on an institutional level that they'd understandably like to avoid, at least for now.

I don't think being a Catholic is required.
Job posting

Kurt Ramler is the only possible candiate w/ direct SJU connections that meets every qualification listed.

I was good to go until I saw the need for computer literacy. Damn it all, anyway.

Wow...just like the old days on the, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn, bored...ahem, board.

Just give Jimmy 50 cents and a mustard sandwich to take over for his dad and call it a day. Let John keep his office just like Lloyd Carr let Bo Schembechler and just be happy with huge attendance and mediocre teams. You've already dubbed Clemens Stadium D3's "Big House," may as well keep the Michigan persona going.

Didn't Gary Moeller take over at UM after Bo?

I don't know, you're the one from Ohio.

Semantics aside, Lloyd still let him keep an office there.

I'm Catholic and pretty good with the computer.  Maybe I should apply.  I'd go after Duffman as my Assistant Head Coach and defensive coordinator.  Touchdown Tommy as offensive coordinator.  As we all know, he is highly offensive.  Jeff Norman as quarterbacks coach.  Fins as Assistant Head Coach in charge of recruiting and academics.  105 would be in charge of communications.  Dusty as strength and conditioning coach.  That should about do it.

Bench, if you really want a good nights sleep you have to visit the WIAC board.  ;)

Surfing the net last night I came across this St. Cloud radio station that I've been streaming all day:

WXYG - "The Goat"  8-)

Posters old enough to know what a stylus is on a turntable might like it too.

For what it's worth, I also played at SJU for the two years that Grant coached there.  His two recruiting classes is what jump started this last great St. John's run.  Also, as a sidenote, he ran intersquad scrimages with the scout teams that were as close to live action as SJU could get in practice.  Point being, he may keep a lot of John's philosophy and style, but he's not gonna be his clone if he gets the job.

Didn't we also have an actual full contact scrimmage at the end of training camp? But as I remember, I think it was Tommy Rambolt who got hurt and John was all kinds of pissed so he was like "no more full contact scrimage....." Think that is how Pat Mayhew got the starting gig isn't it oldsju67?  Wasn't Tommy supposed to start that season?  20 some yrs ago is along time... ;D

57, your memory is close....the scrimmage you refer to was in 89.  Ramboldt was playing QB and did hurt his ankle, but that led to Varley becoming the starter as he was the 2.  Tommy still started against GAC and Cord and re-injured it.  Varley's first start was against CST and he went the rest of the way.  When Ramboldt got healthy he backed up Mike Ramler at TE, while Mayhew became the 2 at QB.  In 1990 and 1991, Mayhew was the starter at QB and Tommy started at TE.

Thanks Jeff, like I said...20 some yrs ago is along time to remember the exact details....I just remember the QB order went from John Laiti, to Varley, to Mayhew....Tommy was a good QB, just couldn't stay healthy....

Actually, it was yours truely who blew out his ankle in that scrimage, was out for at least a month.  Tommy might have tweeked his ankle then too, but he really messed it up either before or during the St. Thomas game which was when Varley took over.  The next year, Rambolt was the starter at QB untill after the Hamline game, when Mayhew took over.  Ramboldt then was Kalkbrenners back up at tight end for the rest of the year...but then again that was a lot of Hamms beers ago so I could be wrong!

I reckon you have it spot on, Ron. That number one represents everything bad and anti-catholic which can be imagined. It's a particularly ignoble goal for an institution to strive for and take pride in excellence.

Next we can expect sex between cats and dogs quickly followed by the four horsemen. Oh, woe is me!  I never expected to live to the Apocolypse.

On the bright side though, it is apparent that all other problems in the world have now been solved and we can turn our attention to potential hypocrisy of the number "1" in a school's sports logo.

EDIT:  Exactly why is it potentially hypocritical?  Because they may not be number one even though they have it in the logo?  My God!  What next?  Jail high school cheerleaders for they cheer their team even when LOSING!  OMG!
