Ok...so the underlying commentary is that if St. Thomas didn't go, the lower tier would have:

"St. Thomas expended tremendous effort to remain in the MIAC and stabilize the conference," St. Thomas president Julie H. Sullivan said in a statement. "However, the presidents came to a consensus that the conference itself would cease to exist in its current form if St. Thomas remained."

So I'm curious as to people's speculation as to how the MIAC scenario would have played out if the 9 votes weren't there and St. Thomas stayed:

-Who leaves?
-Where do those that leave go?
-Who stays?
-Who gets added, if any?

As a UWEC alum and frequenter of many Tommie/Blugold matchups in recent years, I've a good number of 2pt conversions, trick plays, onside kicks, 4th down conversions with the game well out of hand. Some of these lower tier MIAC schools are getting blown out by the St. John's & Bethel's as well, but I don't see any push to get them out of the conference.

Was at the Gopher game on Saturday and did not see a single play of the UST vs Augsburg game but tracked it on my phone. Congrats to UST and good luck to you guys in your quest for a National Title.

I also think the Augsburg - Carleton game will be close but I think Heenie will be the difference and Augsburg will win this game.

That Gopher game was great!  ;D  Made up for that Cobber loss.  :-X

No, you guys are wrong.  The Tommies wrote the book on postseason success.

I believe they even wrote the book on writing books.

I say DIII creates a "power conference" similar to the Big 10 called Division 2.5

West

Linfield
UST
SJU
Concordia
UW-Platteville
UW-LaCrosse
UW-Oshkosh
UW-Whitewater

East

Mount Union
Hardin Simmons
UMHB
North Central
Illinois Wesleyan
Delaware Valley
Wittenberg
Wesley

Everyone plays each other, 15 game season. Top two teams from each division play each other for the championship. Last place in each division gets relegated to Division III. Stagg Bowl Champ and Runner-Up gets promoted.

Such a smart idea. Should be making the big bucks.

Any reason for two teams in the east which are further west than any of the teams except one in the West division?

You weren't responsible for the Legends/Leaders alignment, were you?

Thought of this on the drive to the office this morning!

We're gonna need a TV contract.  Hello, NBC Sports.

Is Herzog done for Concordia?

I've seen no indication otherwise (and it wasn't even the Dirty Tommies that ended his season). Looks like Kragnes has been getting into the grove of things lately, with a 100 yard rushing day last week (and almost 100 yards passing, which would be a big deal).

While I am certain the Cobbers will have little difficulty gearing up for SJU with so much on the line, I am wondering how the contrast to the opposition they have faced in the last 4 weeks (Hamline, Augsburg, Carleton and St. Olaf) will affect them in the early going on Saturday.

The Johnnies last 4 were basically the same, except swapping Gustavus for St. Olaf. The other factor is that SJU had a bye week mixed in, whereas Concordia had UST in the same 5 week stretch (5 weeks back)

When it comes down to it, by the time we get to this point everyone has faced the same slate of conference opponents. (unlike the unbalanced schedule of a conference like say the B1G)

The SCIAC board is infinitely more interesting as of late. This should be called the MIAC bored *rimshot
Perhaps with all the visitors they can add 3,300 pages before year end  ;)

Do we have an approved list of topics for this week? The confusion there could be the reason for limited activity.

Australian Rules Football
Obscure beers
Why UST/SJU sucks
Jim Gagliardi's play-calling is terrible
UST's defense plays dirty

Discuss.

That's a full semester credit load at UST right there

If there was a spread on the UST game, I'd think it'd have to be around what, 48 1/2?

I'd go higher....59 1/2.

with the spread being roughly equal to the O/U.

We have betting company commercials on TV like the States have Viagra and feminine products.

Still probably doesn't compare to our saturation by FanDuel & DraftKings (for now.....)

I can't see Concordia beating UST...probably good enough to hang in there for a half, like SJU and BU, but UST will wear them down.

Where would UST be this season without Jordan Roberts?  Kaiser is a strong runner, but he doesn't have nearly the same quickness and cutting ability.  Their roster isn't materially different from last year, beyond going with Gould from the beginning rather than having O'Connell in the mix, but Gould is really more of a game managing type QB to this team anyway.  Roberts is a difference maker, that's for sure.

It's likely a lot further forward than UST fans are wanting to look, but I'm already looking forward to seeing them match up with a WIAC power or UMU in the playoffs...

Roberts was a HUGE addition obviously, but I think UST would still be undefeated. Here's why: 4 seniors and 1 junior on that o-line that goes 300+ across the board (which is why they better go deep this year, because there will be some big shoes to fill in 2016). Kaiser is no Roberts but he is a load. I also think Tucker Trettel will be a very solid back for UST, no expectations that he be the caliber of his old man, but he is clearly running well when he gets his opportunities.

Agreed with that o-line.  Huge holes opened up for Roberts, who made the best of them.

Just for comparison.  Average starting offensive line size:

Wisconsin        320
Michigan St   318
Minnesota   314
Maryland           313

UST                   306

Illinois           306
Indiana           305
Ohio St           305
Penn St           305
Purdue           302
Rutgers           302
Michigan           302
Northwestern   300
Nebraska           299
Iowa                   290

Apologies to the D3 gang, Badger, but as a liberal Manhattanhite, I only get my news from the NY Times.

Those who read about St. Scholastica in the NYT will see them referred to as "a powerhouse" -- I think Pat Borzi knows better from my conversations with him in recent years but maybe he couched it better and the New York media elite :) pumped it up a bit.

It's like when I work for celebrity rags, and my only contribution to bettering society comes when, in my lowly role as copy editor, I change "NBA superstar Kris Humphries" to "NBA player Kris Humphries."

You probably could have downplayed the word "player" as well.

OFFICIAL NOTICE:

Due to the utterly lame and virtually non-existent Wartburg support, I have decided to cheer against them this weekend and have a good go at them on the IIAC boards.  I'm not cheering for the Tommies mind you, just against Wartburg.

There are no CSS or Wartburg supporters anywhere.  This post season has been quieter than the streets of Chernobyl.  We need Johnnie and Tommie victories to bring some life to this party so we can celebrate the playoffs properly.  Sheesh.
