Feel free to rename the topic.

The 2009 Handbook was released a couple days ago. I mentioned it on the blog, but there are some changes this year.

• The OWP and OOWP formula is made explicit. OWP counts for 1/3 and OOWP for 2/3.
• Webcasting/other live coverage capabilities now a stated criterion for regional hosts.
• "Once ranked, always ranked" replaces "ranked opponents are those that appear in the final regional rankings." Not direct quotes from the Handbook.

Also from the 2009 Handbook:
• 62 teams this year (61 in '08). Should be seven eight-team regionals and one six-teamer.
• 40 Pool A's (was 38 in '08 ... welcome, Landmark/GSAC)
• Pool B and C breakdowns were not mentioned but should be released with regional hosts. My guess is 20 C's and 2 B's (Was 19 and 4 last season).

Key dates:
10/21: Regional rankings begin
11/4: Regional hosts selected (a few days later than in '08, when an originally selected host did not make the tourney and subsequently did not host a regional).
11/8: Tournament teams selected
11/9: Online selection show

1)  It does not list the teams in the conferences that participate.
2)  It does not delineate the composition of the Regions by teams and conferences.  (In fact, I do not see a link to where this information has been compiled for easy access.)
3)  It does not tally the member institutions by Pool A or Pool B.
4)  It does not "show the math" as to how the bids were determined.
5)  It does not list those teams that have opted for NAIA, NCCAA or USCAA playoffs instead.
6)  It does not show the teams that are provisional and those that are re-classifying into and out of D-III.

We do get an idea of when the NECC and the UMAC will receive their Pool A bids from this section of the Handbook.

Agreed on all, Ralph.
2) I, too, miss the lists of teams by region. It's a bit bulky and in some cases outdated, but here is a sortable database that I use.

But this one is better. It has projected eligibility years and everything. Why not copy and paste this info to the Handbook like was done in past years? I'm with you there. Thought I'd leave the first link up there so maybe the NCAA will update it. For example, East Bay is no longer a D-III volleyball program.

Anyway, the bid allocation is 19 C's (376 teams) and 3 B's (35 teams). In the West, there are only 18 Pool A teams and 3 Pool B's (but the link only mentions Santa Cruz and Chapman as full members, with La Sierra as a provisional. What's 1+1+0?). Still, 20 or 21 teams? Pretty thin, considering there are three regions with 60+.

Your last point could impact Nebraska Wesleyan the most.
