Haven't been able to keep up on the board over the past couple of weeks due to work, looks like there's a ton that I've missed. Congrats to UWW on another WIAC championship!
As far as the Eagles are concerned, they played hard yesterday against Platteville but didn't have the horses on D to stop their high powered offense. We once again showed that we can score on any defense and put up points (with Yaeggi in at QB at least), but haven't got the defensive side of the rebuild fixed quite yet. I've said it for a long time, but it will take a couple recruiting cycles to get bigger O and D linemen, as well as build the depth that we'll need to be a serious contender.

QuoteUW-L played with a three-man defensive front to give extra secondary/linebacker help against Platteville's receivers, but the Pioneers spread the field so wide that it left the Eagles vulnerable up the middle. Platteville's experienced (three seniors and a junior start) and big (average 6-foot-3, 287 pounds) offensive line took over, creating big lanes for Thompson.
Platteville (8-2, 5-2) broke a 35-year-old program record with 443 yards rushing on 53 attempts.
QuoteUW-L's defensive struggles masked a highly-efficient day by the Eagles offense.
Junior quarterback Tarek Yaeggi set a UW-L record with 535 passing yards on 39 completions with four touchdowns. Yaeggi also set single-season records for total yards of offense (2,901), passing yards (2,729) and completions (218). Two of Yaeggi's scores went to junior receiver Nick Holcomb, and the other two went to senior Joel Oxton, who set a program single-game record with 15 catches on Saturday.

QuoteYaeggi set numerous program records for the Eagles this season, but here's the short list: Most passing yards (535), completions (39) and attempts (66) in a single game, all of which were set Saturday; Most passing yards (2,729), completions (218) and total yards of offense (2,901) in a single season.
All of those accomplishments become even more impressive when considering the fact Yaeggi missed the UW-Eau Claire game in Week 6 with a shoulder injury that also limited him against UW-Stevens Point in Week 7.
