AO, plenty of tough football games to play.  CC at home a tough one, you are right.  Augie away also tough.  I'm surely hoping for 9-1 but not all that easy to run the table now.

We'll see.

I dunno. What are the odds that a flu outbreak will cause a substantial percentage of the NCC two-deep to be bedridden on Saturday? That's basically NPU's only chance.

Any of those Love brothers I played against have eligibility left?  :D

John Love, who is the Spokane County prosecutor out in Washington state, has a daughter who is a freshman on the NPU tennis team. But I doubt that she has much of an arm for football, even if she does have a wicked forehand. Her Vikings whipped your alma mater's tennis team tonight, though, and she won her singles match in straight sets as well as her doubles match, so it's not as though the Loves are through with you Cardinals yet. ;)

Daily Herald article/update on the Wheaton hazing case.

There is now a gag order preventing the Wheaton PD from releasing any more info through Freedom of Information Act requests from either multiple media outlets or Wheaton College.

As if the North Park offense wasn't in dire enough straits this season with Frank Mauigoa out and a definite shortage of impact skill players to begin with, the best weapon that NPU had left, RB Enrique Moises Menendez, is out for the season. He broke his foot in the Millikin game last week, didn't even realize it, and kept playing on it. The pain got worse in practice this week, he had it checked with an orthopedist, and the doctor promptly shut him down.

If that turns out to be the end of his career, it's a genuine shame.

IWU over AC late in the first half 21-7.

Alexander having a great game running and receiving.

IWU over AC in Rock Island, 28-10.  Final.

A bit ragged, but a road win is a road win.  Way too many holding penalties, taking about at least 40+ more yards from Alexander and calling back a 60+ yard TD run by Bauer.  Gotta clean that up.

But, 5-1 feels pretty good at this time of year, esp. given the early schedule.

Homecoming next week -- "Titans Around the World" -- vs. Carroll.

Things went pretty much as you would expect this afternoon in Naperville as North Central pitched a 33-0 shutout win over North Park whose minimal chances were further reduced by the absence of it's top two offensive stars as reported above by Greg Sager.

In allowing NPU to gain just 92 total yards (31 rush, 61 pass), the Cardinals, set an all-time single-game school record, breaking the old record of 97 which stood since Sept, 2006.

Factoring heavily in the Cardinal victory were a total of seven QB sacks and an interception.
Perhaps the standout defensive play of the afternoon was turned in by NCC's Matt Sutherland. With NPU facing a 4th and 10 from it's own 17 on their opening possession of the 2nd half, Sutherland shot through the Vikings line and blocked a punt which rolled through the end zone for a safety.

Offensively, Austin Breunig (rushing), and Andrew Kamienski (receiving) topped the 100 yard mark with 105 and 110 respectively.

Wild finish in Decatur.  For the second time this season, Wheaton will have made what looks like the game winning defensive play, only to have it nullified and then lose when the other team gets that second chance.  This time, Wheaton had Stepina intercepted on Millikin's final drive, but a roughing the passer penalty wiped out the turnover, and Millikin takes advantage to drive down and get the winning score.

Massey sez:

Wheaton 42, Millikin 14 (WC 97%, MU 3%)

3%? ???  Evidently, NOT

Scoreboard sez:

Millikin 35, Wheaton 31  :o

Wheaton clearly in a tailspin.   I think this season is going to end up feeling like 2007 for very different reasons.

That seems extreme.  They lost two games in the last minute to decent teams.  They're literally two plays away from being the #4 team in D3.

SJF is doing a proper tailspin.  Check that out for a point of reference.

Two plays from being #4 versus out of the top 25?  Is that how voting works?   If that is the case you might as well keep them at 6 or 7 given the Thunder have a sample size of several hundred plays this year.   In the last few years these games don't come down to two plays.

I guess Massey has a hard time predicting a Mickey Mouse of an officiating crew being assigned to the game.

Heck, someone needs to say it, it's pretty obvious. 15 penalties for 153 yards. When the defense picks the ball off and it gets negated by a total nonsense roughing the passer call, it's time to call a spade a spade. For the record, hitting the QB while he's releasing the ball is not roughing, it's not late... it's nothing more than hogwash call
