New coach has been announced who will continue the proud style of play that has become synonymous with Springfield (and Stoke).

Falconer

At various points in the past couple decades Messiah has played several D2 or NAIA teams, including a national champion, Bucknell, I think Delaware, Columbia, Princeton, and I think Penn.

In the more distant past they played Georgetown and Penn State. They were not usually out scored, but often tied.

Rineer leaves Haverford for the top assistant job at Colgate.

Wow. Could certainly change The mid Atlantic. He did a fantastic job at Haverford. Going to certainly be missed there. Will be interesting to see who gets the job.

I do not understand this move..Unless he desperately wanted D1 or had to get out of dodge for some reason. Maybe he figured he could not take Haverford any further than he took them but I find this hard to believe. Maybe someone with more insight on this could comment because this move doesn't make much sense for me unless maybe his wife got a job at Colgate or something like that having to do with family.

This is a COMPLETE joke...You wonder why the Federation is off its rocker..He is not even that qualified is he??? To be rewarded for playing what quite possibly could have been the ugliest soccer in D3 is almost laughable. But hey why would the Federation care about that or even bother to look into the style he used at Springfield.

He has his UEFA A and USSF A licenses, so his qualifications are reasonable.  One imagines that he has a better ability to teach the game than was on display at Springfield.

Haha I was so bothered by this announcement I did not even bother to read the article or his qualifications...Yes he certainly is qualified....Maybe Tufts talented producer / videographer  Dexter Eichhorst could compile 10 minutes of Springfield high(low)lights for the Federation to chew on. I think 10 minutes of watching Springfield backs hoof ball after ball 50 yards downfield with a whooooosh noise would be sufficient.

He had to have a dream of being a D1 guy one day. I know you disagree, but the odds of going from D3 Head Coach directly to D1 Head Coach are very slim. Look at all the D1 jobs that opened this year. Not a single D3 Head Coach received one of them.

This job will have a ton of good applicants. D1 Assistants, D3 Head Coaches, D3 Assistants. It's a strong academic school (which is an immense advantage at D3), talented roster, and in a great area. Jobs like this don't come up often.

Saint of Old

Tough blow the program.

I thought that after they beat us  in the Sweet 16 in '15 they were a team that were about to break through Nationally and maybe win a title in the n ear future.

Again, its all about sucess while the window is open.

Haverford may still have its best days ahead, but it is very difficult at the D3 level to have instant success with a new coach.

Historic programs like SLU and Williams have taken time to adjust despite having ver good coa hes at the helm.
Change is hard.

The winners here is again Messiah and Lycoming with a regional power losing a good coach.

Teams have to take advantage of their window similar to what Amherst and Tufts has done.
The last 20 years show Winning a crown almost guarantees long term success  (with rare exceptions like Richard Stockton in 01).

Oneonta, Loras are due and should take heed.

Never a fan of playing Ramapo back in the stone ages. They always had good kids. Most of these are big name high schools, or at least were when I was kicking around NJ.

Long-time coach, Dr. Steven Smith, retires as Hope College Men's Soccer Coach.

They've had some real success but have fallen off in recent years...

Does the long-time assistant get the job? It says national search underway but not sure of the likelihood that they go outside the program..
