My coworkers like the Richmond Tigers.

Good God, you work for a drug cartel?

EDIT:  By the way, I keep checking youtube to see if this year's Grand Final between Collingwood and West Coast is posted but isn't yet and that's a shame.  It was a heck of a game and well worth watching.  I did find a Hawks v Geelong game from 2008 that is well worth watching and bookmarked it.  So there's something.

If this year's GF ever is uploaded I'll share it for those who are interested.

(I'm really loving the anticipation of this game. It's turning up to 11.)

First time poster, came by to discuss regional rankings. Interesting that the committee said that St. John's has two wins that are better than any win for Whitewater, yet Whitewater is ranked ahead.

Here's how I look at their schedules:
1. The Concordia/Stout wins cancel out.
2. SJU's Bethel and UST wins are better than UWW's Oshkosh and Lacrosse wins.
3. Then you're left to judge SJU's wins over STO/Gustavus/Carleton/Augsburg against Whitewater's Eau Claire/Stevens Point/Dubuque wins.

I don't see a real compelling argument to give Whitewater an edge over SJU. Maybe they are giving quite a bit of weight to Whitewater's win over Dubuque, but that seems like a lot of respect for a win over an ARC team. What was the ARC's best OOC win anyways? Also, I believe that Dubuque is currently 0-2 against teams that are above .500.

Or maybe they are just defaulting to what the SOS calculation says.

Rankings are out:

Sheesh. Looks to me right now like UST needs to beat Bethel by about 35 to even be considered.

I hope that's the last time we schedule a NAIA team.
We went through this last year with the Johnnies.  It's better for the SOS to schedule an NAIA team than another WIAC team likely to win 2 games.  If you played a 9-1 team rather than Eau Claire in the other game you would still benefit by putting an NAIA team on the schedule instead of a .500 team.   The NCAA doesn't use a weighted average for each game, they simply add up all the wins and losses at once.  That means that your lone D3 non-conference game has more effect on the SoS than it would if you played 2 d3 non-conference games.  Eau Claire is the SoS problem, not Trinity.

I knew Hamline was bad, but I didn't realize just how dreadfully awful they are this year.  This'll be a yawner.

Unfortunately, yes, they are really bad. If you remember, we tried to help them a year ago with suggestions on this board. If memory serves me, I think Bench had some good ones. Might have to be another January topic  ;D

Hamline's first problem is roster size, I think it's lower than Carleton.  It means that a lot of freshman are playing lot's of minutes against juniors and seniors on other teams.  It's good for their development but will lead to some ugly scores for a few years.  They could instantly improve if they could get their T&F throwers to be on the team, most of them were very good football players in HS.  They have added some decent coaches to their squad (I know their new DL coach - he's good) which should bare fruit.

Has Hamline been competitive since the mid-80s?  They've been at the bottom of the MIAC as long as I can recall, which is the mid/late 90s.

My very quick thoughts......

If Hamline comped the hourly rates pre & post game at the Midway Motel, that would definitely draw more people. Interesting folk too.

Maybe Bigfoot hunter could come back as Head Coach and they could do a halftime show of him chasing a guy in a bigfoot costume around. I would pay to see that.

Hire Ray Grant as recruiting coordinator. Part of the job requirements would be to post outlandish predictions on the upcoming season on D3boards.

Get Justice Spriggs more eligibility. He is a really talented football player, and it feels like he has been there for 8 years already, so whats the difference. It could, however, be quite detrimental to your health to be Hamline's QB for a prolonged period of time.

This, alone, would do wonders for them!  :D

Hamline beating UST in the season ending barn-burner in 2007 was likely the straw that broke the camel's back for Don Roney. As we approach the season of thanks, I am quite thankful to Hamline for that monumental victory.
