Amherst has posted it's preliminary roster...no FY players listed.  Interesting in that the men's team has a game on the 4th of Sept. and has not yet posted a preliminary roster.

Becks, I would not even attempt to do that given the high sabermetric bar you have set.  Also, with the unknowns of the first years I just think it is difficult.  However, I will say that it looks like Williams is looking to raise its level of performance this year and has also reloaded with a slew of first years, but are they good enough to replace the talent and experience of the five seniors that graduated.  http://ephsports.williams.edu/sports/wsoc/2013-14/releases/20130827ejkxcb

and hope springs for Conn College, can they build off their strong finish last year?

Amherst's roster is posted.  It shows 7 FY players on a very large squad.  Since the first game is on  Sat. Against Middlebury at home, the season preview should be out shortly.

Amherst.s preview is posted.
A Middlebury supporter posted on the men's board that FY orientation could impact Panther's participation in the game on Sat. against Amherst.

Completely uninformed predictions:

Williams takes it to @Colby 4-0.
Hamilton on short end of 2-1 loss @ Trinity.
Tufts looking to rebound from down year over @Bates 2-0.
@Bowdoin builds off strong finish last year, another 2-0 result.
Middlebury @Amherst. Based on last year close game with Amherst taking it 1-0.
@Conn over UMassDart.  Based on the write up I will say 5-0, what the heck.

... And have fun out there watching the games!

Amherst wins at home in overtime on a breakaway goal 1-0.
Good call Giggs ;)

Williams only beat Colby 2-1, but could easily have scored several more goals, as the Ephs seemed to be in control when I tuned in.  Williams' first year class is as good as advertised -- three first-years started, and four others all saw substantial playing time off the bench.  First-years scored both goals -- Audrey Thomas who is small but VERY fast and dynamic and really fun to watch, and Katie Wardlaw.  In addition, Kriste Kirshe also looks, as expected, very good, leading the team in shots off the bench and creating several good chances with nifty footwork, including one shot off the post, just couldn't find the net.  Finally, Tressa Palchek played half the game in goal and was very solid, earning the win.  This group, while smaller in numbers, may end up approaching the tremendous Class of 2011 in terms of impact when all is said and done.

Williams, being a fairly young squad (only three seniors played) may take a bit of time to come together -- they let several golden scoring opportunities slip by, and also were a bit sloppy in transition and vulnerable to quick counterattacks from Colby (they were saved but at least one dynamite save from Palchek).  Colby's all-NESCAC forward (who scored their lone goal and almost had a second) Papedellis gave the Ephs fits as she was too quick for the Williams backs.  The Ephs lost several all-NESCAC defenders, and the inexperience on the back line definitely showed.  They will give up some good chances this year, but are fortunate to have two strong goalies.  I do think the Ephs as they gain experience will be more dynamic offensively than they've been since 2010.

Anyone see the Wheaton/Williams game? Thoughts from the sideline?

Actually, the Williams squad of 2010 only posted 44 goals and 15 goals allowed in 21 games, certainly better than in 2012 or 2011. However, since we're aspiring, let us aspire to the 2009 squad's performance...65 goals, 9 goals allowed in 20 games. Or better yet, the 2008 team...56 goals, 13 goals allowed in 21 games and a berth in the NCAA Final Four!

Midd's All American goalie got blasted during OT on the play that Amherst scored and took a DNP in last night's tie v. Keene State.  Does anyone her status and whether/when Foody will return to action.

At the moment Midd looks shaky, losing 9 seniors and one of their top underclassmen could prove too much.  The offense is Kirk and Favorito and not much else.  A favorable September schedule will help buy some time.  We'll see.

I hope the Midd gk is ok. The collision was unfortunate and left her injured (to add to injury she sustained minutes beforehand--perhaps a bit of a pull on a punt?), AND it also left the striker who scored with a nasty injury that led to a DNP for Wednesday's outing. May they both be back in action soon.

Saw Bowdoin v Amherst which ended up in a 0 to 0 tie.  A normal Bowdoin/Amherst game, Amherst came out strong, lots of skill, very flashy and dominated play, but had few real scoring chances due to the very strong play of Bowdoin's back 4.  Bowdoin's offensive game plan seemed to be to play the ball long to attackers who could not out run the D so few real scoring chances for Bowdoin.  In the second half, things started to open up more and both team had chances and play seemed to be a little more even than in the first half.  Bowdoin got stronger as game went on.  While Amherst dominated the stats, Bowdoin's D was very effective in keeping Amherst from getting may really good scoring opportunities.  Amherst will continue to be a strong team this year, but if Bowdoin gets that type of defensive effort they got today throughout the season, a repeat of last year's record is very possible.

Overall accurate assessment, GUBFL. Although to be completely fair, gotta give some props to the Bowdoin GK, whose diving fingertip saves denied two shots headed low and just inside the posts late in the game/OT.

Good thing I  did not get around to making predictions for the weekend.  Would have picked Amherst again 1-0 basically on the basis that they were at home.  Would have really missed Trinity beating Williams, what is up with that?  Otherwise would probably have picked the winners (ha, easy to say afterwards) but would have probably given Middlebury more space, and faith in Tufts' ability to put the ball in the net was wavering.
