Definitely going to be a battle all year. It is a 6 or 7 team race for the top 4 spots. Curious to see who steps it up this year.

The camera work at Wartburg absolutely stinks.

Pretty horse**** display of post-game sportsmanship by Whitworthless--love the player blasting double middle fingers on the video feed.

Love #5 flashing the ring towards Linfield while wearing street clothes.

One play didn't determine the outcome of that game but holy crap I cannot believe there was no holding called on WW on the last drive. Guy straight up yanked the jersey right in front of the white hat on a positive pass play.

So correct me if I'm wrong but SCIAC championship game will be the winner of Redlands/Pomona vs Chapman (unless they lose to LaVerne).

Correct? Any idea how they decide where the game is played?

That is correct, but I have no idea where it will be played. I am guessing if Redlands wins this weekend they will host Chapman, but if Pomona wins, they will travel to Chapman.

Again in the late to the part and worst kept secret departments... Congrats to Erik Scherer on the new gig... program in good hands!!!

Can't believe they waited this long to go with the only logical choice. Pumped for Scherer and excited to see him continue the tradition.

ETBU was the #1 seed in the West.
La Verne won the Birmingham-Southern Regional..
ETBU hosts the D3 Softball National Championships this weekend.

Will the NCAA hold the Super-Regional at ETBU, too?

Yes! Friday at 1PM

Curious if the NCAA sent La Verne home and they will turn around and get on another flight for this weekend? Doubt they would want to pay for the hotel nights but who knows.

I saw the L&C team got treated very well after being knocked out late at night. Apparently they went back to the hotel and were told to pack up and get on a bus to Atlanta to fly home right away. So much for taking care of the kids who just had their season end.

Tufts and Middlebury both open their NCAA play today (5/19} at 130p against Mitchell and Johnson and Wales, respectively.
... and both lost! That surprised me.

I watched some of the Tuft's game and the plate ump had the tightest zone I have ever seen. Svadgis was not happy with him and both sides pitchers just stood there with their hands up on about 15 pitches that were called balls.

Pacific comes all the way back, 9-9 and had bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but with the count 2-2 a third strike is called on a time violation.

In the top of the tenth TU loads the bases with two outs, and with the count 3-2 Christian Holloway, 0-5 on the day, cranks a grand slam to left field and the Tigers escape, 13-10.

Even worse for Pacific, they had bases loaded with nobody out in the 9th. They are going to be kicking themselves unless they go on a run.

Interesting start to the SCIAC tourney with both lower seeds winning their opening game. La Verne (#4 in the West) and CMS (#2 in the West) will play today to extend their season. ULV will be in major trouble if they drop this one.

CMS started a guy with 9 innings on the year and then went to another starter out of the pen. Not sure what that thought process is, but I am really curious to see how today ends up with CMS likely throwing their ace and ULV throwing the pitcher of the year.

Looking at the Regional Rankings for teams that have not clinched a spot yet...

ULV: 5 wins and 7 losses against regionally ranked teams. They have the chance to add to each total this weekend.

CMS: 5 wins and 3 losses against regionally ranked teams. They also have the chance to add to their totals this weekend.

Pacific: 3-3 against Regionally Ranked teams with no way to improve. I feel "pretty good" about their position but only have 6 results against RR teams could bite them after this weekend.

Chapman: 9 wins and 8 losses against regionally ranked teams. Having a total of 17 results, with more ahead this weekend could really help them if they make a deep run this weekend in the SCIAC tourney.

TLU: 5 wins and 8 losses against regionally ranked teams. I think they are done since they are so low in the rankings right now.

Lewis & Clark clinched a spot already, but them dropping out of the RR this week hurts a few teams, especially Pacific.

Of course, none of this is accurate if it is still "Once ranked, always ranked". If that is the case, I'll just wait to see what happens.

Listened to the Podcast about d3 baseball yesterday and it seems like a coach in the West voiced frustration over Lewis & Clark dropping out of the rankings. The frustration comes from the fact that it improves the overall body for CMS as L&C took 2/3 from CMS.

They must put a lot of weight on the SOS!

Yes they must, but only in certain instances.  Augustana does have 35 wins and has beaten 85% of their opponents, but they have some terrible losses and are 0-2 against regionally ranked opponents.  Eau Claire finished with 12 wins, and St. Olaf finished below .500.  They were also swept by North Central.

Records vs regionally ranked opponents.
Aurora 4-1
Webster 5-1
Benedictine 2-4 (loss head-to-head with NC)
North Central 1-2
Wash U 0-1
MSOE 1-3

Wash U's strength of schedule seems much more important that Augie's 10 more wins.  However, with Benedictine / North Central, the head to head win by NC AND NC's better strength of schedule don't seem to matter??  It's a head scratcher.

Wouldn't Webster be a little different as they went 1-3 against RR teams in CA. That's also not a terrible thing as the more results you have against RR teams shows your willingness to schedule tough teams.

Hello, I'm new here. I've been following the SCIAC for a couple years and I'm excited to watch the tournament. CMS looks like they have a good chance but they'll need to figure out how to beat La Verne.

I am very confident CMS will be selected for a regional regardless of what happens this weekend. I have a few concerns about them overall (close series with Redlands, close games with Whittier and Oxy, and needed two last-AB victories over Caltech). That being said, they have had a great year and are trending in a very positive direction.
