Some great shooting by Brady . . . surely not taking it to the basket these days . . . living on the three point line!   ms

There are several takes to the basket in there.
certainly has hit the training facility. Much stronger in drive to basket and elevation on jump & 3point shots.  He is shooting from NBA depth.

He has really improved  keeping himself square to the basket with and without the ball. He is ready to shoot, drive or pass with improved decision making.. His catch and shoot impressive - no hesitation, great mechanics and quick release!

He was in every opponent's game plan in the CCIW. From this video clip, he has got to be near or at the top of every professional level game plan .

Dave Wrath, SID, Augustanta is retiring after a 40 year career.  One of the best SID's not just in CCIW, but in all of Div III.  A good guy, respected at all levels and an important contributor to Augustana well beyond SID responsibility.

Here is a link for very well done you tube about Dave, his retirement and future plans
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0IrERRAjjL4

So congratulations Dave. Your outstanding contributions to Augustana, the CCIW and this board will be missed.  Somehow I Think we will still see you around campus and the athletic

He gave me flashbacks of Duncan Robinson! :o  If he becomes even half the player DR was/is, the Titans have their next mega-star. ;D  (And, while he could use some time in the weight-room, he's already WAY ahead of DR at that age.)

I don't think a 5-10 PG should give you flashbacks of a 6-8 G/F.
Right Q!  And doubt Mr Valetin grows 6" and gets to 180lbs over the summer 😀
Now if Mr Ypsil were commenting on another commit could be a valid discussion

* Word is also circulating about a possible noteworthy transfer. We'll see if anything comes of this.

I've heard this rumor...but no confirmation.

https://merrimackathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/ethan-helwig/10110
Not saying this is the transfer.  BUT, having lived in New Hampshire, worked in Boston and very familiar with North Andover, Mass. I will guarantee this.  A college that fields men's and women's  ice hockey, field hockey/lacrosse  and soccer ... basketball is not a major sport (neither is football).

And, Merrimack began the transition  from D2 to D1 so no post season NCAA , NIT or NEC playoff chances until 2024.  Add to the mix changes in the portal rules and extra year eligibility, the young could be representative of the "overcrowding " at Div 1&2 this season and IMHO next season.

IWU commit Nathan Valentine was named Captain of the 2021 Daily Herald Fox Valley All-Area Team.

I was just looking at his year highlights video. Insane. Check out his 3 pt shots. I bet a third are from NBA range.

He looks like a really talented kid.

Well, my first thought was the refs in that conference do not call fouls on 3
Point shots.  So the lad will have already been accustomed to physical CCIW play.

A little unorthodox shot.  Needs to work on not jumping forward on shot.  Sets his feet pretty well by squaring to basketball.  Quick release ulmost insane.  Realizing it is a highlight video, he will shoot from 'anywhere in th gym'. Does have potential to be dangerous

Ron Rose and the Titans have landed 6-7 Nick Roper from MICDS HS in STL.

As a SR averaged 12 pts, 8 reb, 4 assists.

Long, athletic, and skilled player.  Chose IWU over D1 and D2 opportunities.

Huge one for the Titans.

oh boy, he will be tough to guard!  Give him two summers in weight room, he will be featured in every opponent's game plan.

He reminds me of two or three previous D3 players capable of D1 or 2 whom I will mention right now. You just do not see those 6'8" skills in but a handful of D3 incoming freshmen.

The Belt Tm makes the trip to Bloomington.  It is just a short drive to All the Corn in Manito this the summer. It can attend the Manito Popcorn Festival celebrating its 43rd year in 2021.

And, of course, enjoy the corn fields surrounding Bloomington on the farms owned by Illinois Wesleyan University, ISU and the State Farm families of companies.  Bear Nuts will be available while at the Shirk Center

Congratulations to our Titans!  First CCIW Championship after oh too many attempts.

Both teams did a terrific job defending the three.  Too many trey attempts by the Thunder IMHO but I am okay with the game outcome.

Difference maker to me was IWU expanding the lead with Leritz and Lambesis  on the bench with four fouls.  Titans played for 40 minutes as a team tonight.

A great battle by both teams. A great coaching job by both head coaches.  And, a classy post game interview (as always) by Coach Schauer.

Thanks to everyone contributing to the conversation!  So, my two cents are 1) extend the season only if a majority of schools agree and 2) it doesn't necessarily be a full round robin nor do we necessarily have to have a conference tournament.

My thinking is the coaches, staff and players have invested much this year.  All have done a great job with the protocols.  Let the seniors play on.  And, l would venture all involved want to play a few more games.

I am going to just put this out for discussion.  Notwithstanding the postponements over the last several days, what is the possibility of adding games for a full(er) round robin and having the expanded conference tournament?

NCAA has cancelled the DIII Tournament.  As a result, there is no reason to rush to a conference tournament. You avoid trying to "cram" postponed games into remaining schedule.  You just play at your own pace.

Conversely, the conference could take the IWU70 approach.  It has been a good try.  The risks too great.  The reward too small.  Cancel the remaining season for winter sports (not just basketball but all winter sports).

Posters thoughts please.

Oh fly on the wall, it had to be an interesting one way conversation about valuing the ball in the Titan  halftime locker room.  As Q noted, it was "ugly ball" for the Titans first half of the season.

IWU made only six turnovers in the second half to finish with 20 for the game.  The Pios with 2-12 3pt in 1st half was how IWU took a 7 point lead to the halftime break.

Coach D enjoy your retirement but we look forward to seeing you at the Shirk or Tarble.  Stevie D, congratulations young man.

I have no clue, but why do you think it's Thomas?

I also have no clue.

But...

* Great relationships in the suburban Chicago basketball scene - would seem to walk in with the ability to recruit that key area.
* Augie grad.
* Well respected coach.

Clearly they have strong options here.  I think a tie, if there is a tie, would go to an Augie guy?
Jim Thomas has the right qualifications to be seriously considered from the high school ranks.  It certainly does no hurt that he is both an Augustana grad and successful as a college basketball player.  His academic qualifications are a good fit at the college level.  I would venture his compensation requirements would be a fit also.

MU rising to the "top tier" in CCIW women's hoops?   :)   LOL

Pretty crazy high school scoring, to be sure.  (Thanks Q).

it was not long ago that Millikan was "top tier".   With Olivia's background and successes, Millikan will attract quality players.  You know Olivia will never give up getting the best players she can recruit.  Heck, I would play for Olivia!
