Magic,
just saw Plattsburgh(baseball) on Pardon the Interruption - they had tying run on 2nd when a muffed pickoff attempt let him come all the way home sliding by the plate; throw went by the catcher but rebounded in time to tag the runner just before he stretched for the plate. National coverage!

It was featured on MLB.com as well.  Missing in this explanation is that the runner completely missed home plate with his slide.  He was trying to get back to the plate when the tag occured...

On the d3hoops.com mock selection show last night, they seemed pretty confident Plattsburgh was going to make it.  I suppose as early as Rochester came off the board, Plattsburgh had a better chance.  They hit on 18 out of the 20 Pool C bids.

Cardinals didn't have to wait long to find out they are dancing!!! Playing in the Williams pod against Gwynedd Mercy.

Magic must be looking forward to the "dance" if Plattsburgh keeps rolling!

I'm hoping we keep rolling. Had a little blip over the weekend that could have cost us hosting rights but turned out it didn't matter, when Oswego beat Brockport, so we head down there. I don't want to be waiting on an NCAA at large bid, so winning the YAC tournament is the solution to that problem. Tough tournament this week, though, as all 6 teams are capable of winning the title.

Plus none of the six can count on an at-large bid so all are playing to make the NCAA tourney...

Interesting that Rochester jumped Plattsburgh in this week's rankings.  They beat a pair of 14-8 teams (Chicago and Washington U).  I'm still learning the intricacies of the basketball NCAA process.  What's the explanation for Rochester's jump over the Cardinals?

After Magicman's Cardinals losing 2 straight last weekend.
The SUNYAC is open for the taking.

Excited to see what teams will show up down the stretch.

Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I don't think you can say the league is "open for the taking" until someone beats Oswego.  They have a two game lead in the standings now.  At the moment, I would say there is a battle for second place, but the regular season title is Oswego's to lose...

Thought the 5th foul on Patron was called very late and I thought it was a block.  Tough break for the Cardinals, but they still should have forced overtime.  The turnover under the basket with two seconds left was a tough play.  Definitely a foul.  Cards will rebound tonight!

What about Middlebury's start screamed 5 place jump in the rankings?  The win over Endicott?  I know, I know.  It's early and the rankings don't mean a whole lot!

I would think that Patron not playing the first semester would make him a long-shot to win POY.  But, he's only a junior so he'll be back next year!

In light of the weather, is Plattsburgh already in Philadelphia?  It would seem too late to leave now as the storm is already affecting areas south of us...

As for Plattsburgh not hosting over Swarthmore... the criteria gives this to Swarthmore over Platt. I saw that as an easy decision between the two. FYI - winning your conference has NOTHING to do with this process and we shouldn't reference it. If that was the case, should Southern Vermont have hosted and not traveled to Wesleyan in the first weekend?

I wasn't insinuating that was the reason Plattsburgh didn't host - I get that they would probably not have even been second in line based on ranking.  I was just saying that them not hosting was not because of other activities on campus.

I hate the idea that any conference winner would be excluded from the tourney. Now, if a 1-bid league wants to enhance its chances, it may wish to not have a tourney so the champ gets in automatically.

I also abhor the fact that two of the 'play-in' games in the D1 tourney are 16-seeds. Let them in, and have the last eight at large teams battle it out.

I'm all for this!  I'd rather make all the 12 seeds (the 16-12 ACC or SEC teams squeaking in because we need to fill the bracket) play those elimination games instead of the conference champion 16 seeds.  That said, the play-in gives those 16 seeds the opportunity to win a game in the NCAA tourney!

Wondering if Plattsburgh women having to host hockey next weekend may be a reason for the 412 mile road trip?

No.  This weekend Plattsburgh hosted the basketball regional, women's hockey conference championship game, and three high school sectional championship games.  Besides, the basketball team and the hockey teams play in separate buildings.  Would not have been a challenge to host both.

Some years the committee won't send a sectional some place that's already hosting other events.  They don't want to run the risk of the hosts being short staffed - don't know if that's part of things this year or not, but it is sometimes a consideration.

As of right now, Plattsburgh isn't hosting anything else.  The women's hockey team is line to host a QF game next week, but the bracket isn't announced until tomorrow.
