Quote from: tomt4525 on March 25, 2024, 05:55:22 PMSorry to say...but without Pearson, Platteville is not a top 5 team in the country.

If Pearson were to miraculously go to the Pointers do you believe they'd be a top 15 team in country with upside! I'm dreaming obviously but just imagine

Thanks for sharing the info Can't expect every kid to stay in college 5-6 years good for him focusing on a career. Certainly would've helped Pointers but they also have some really good talent on the roster so hopefully someone will stay consistent. Don't need 9 guys swinging for home runs all the time I feel the pointers are missing Boos but once again Soule is really good but the experience is missed I'd love to know if he's injured or what's going on same with Brennan Huber who was first team all state last year. Also would love to know what's going on with Weckler and JD Schultz just extremely bizarre situation and if those two ever get healthy they're looking at a formidable rotation which I feel should be 1. Kenny Schultz 2. Mason Weckler 3. JD Schultz 4. Casey Pickering. Schultz and Weckler could be switched but I'm convinced that Pickering should be the 4 and he'd be a very good one.

I noticed after I sent that and looked at box score. Something is definitely off so far although they seem to be turning things around somewhat. If those two pitchers are healthy or coming back healthy their rotation would be formidable but Pickering seems so hit or miss. Kenny Schultz really should be the ace id think and Weckler definitely looked good last year as the 2 but I guess no matter what Kenny, JD, Mason, and Pickering is really good plus they have two d1 pitching transfers. I really wish I knew what happened to Boos he was solid last two years have hard time he got beaten out or wouldn't see field. Jackson Adams is looking really good

Quote from: tomt4525 on March 19, 2024, 01:33:25 PMHuge win for the Pointers this morning over #1 Endicott.  They have another huge game going on now against #13th ranked Johns Hopkins, who just beat La Crosse 8-0 this morning.

Where is Mason Weckler and JD Schultz?  They still have yet to throw a pitch for the Pointers this year.

JD pitched today and struck out 12 in win. Pointers now 4-4 and seem to be trying to figure out best defensive lineup along with hitting and the kid in right field today looks really good but I have so many questions like you said why did it take this long for him to pitch and where is Weckler? Where's Jacob Boos and did Brennan Huber get hurt before season began? Logan Mattson I know is coaching at Eau Claire I believe did the incident getting hit in eye last year make it where he didn't want to play any longer or couldn't he? Brendan Canterbury had a year left if wanted any idea as to why he didn't come back? He would've really helped and given Pointers experience in right and was consistent hitter. I think this squad has the ability to pitch and hit but I'm worried about defense and Ferry's going to have to pitch lights out or the coaches need to use him less and figure out who else can close games or be set up man. Pitching depth looks really good just hope someone can be dominant at top or even top 2

All I can say is the Pointers have their work cut out for them after starting 0-3. The loss to Denison stings because they were ranked high and pointers blew bigger lead. If they can somehow finish this trip with only 5 losses total and then sweep Marion and Eau Claire they'll be 11-5 and at least have some life if their defense starts playing better.

Where is Jacob Boos?? I thought he was returning and hed definitely provide some experience to their lineup. Is he just injured or something? Have the 2 d1 transfer pitchers even pitched yet this year?

No BS man and sure perhaps there's a possibility the now 2 people I've heard things from could be wrong but I only posted this as a disappointed yet hopeful Pointer fan. If  Buchanan were 6'3" or taller I'd take that kid any time to play on my team and you're correct he's struggling to shoot and I believe a lot of that is his height and not getting the best looks. Miron wise what I was told was he committed to Oshkosh for football and was there for a weekend visit and left there not liking a few kids and the coach and at that point realized he wanted to do something in the fall/winter so he's playing basketball at Point thank God! I'm with what another poster said why not play qb for Pointers and be the reason the program turned around again or stick with basketball because he's clearly going to be a dependable kid. I know you have to have 15-17 kids no matter what for practices and to account for injuries sickness, kids getting home sick etc. but apparently a lot of kids are bent out of shape that coach didn't cut kids leading to a few kids going to practices and quitting on their own once the realization came that they weren't going to play a ton. I have exact thought you have with Butler and my guess was he told coach he was one and done and once Josiah realized either he wasn't ready for d1 or the Pointers were building something great he would stick around. I'll never ever hate on a kid for chasing their dreams as long as they're realistic but with Butler is he looking to just say he made a d1 roster and average 3 points a game or does he want to play big time minutes at a reputable school?? Another thing I forgot to mention was I also was told Logan Baumgartner was recently moved to the 5 and isn't thrilled about it. I know I had brought him up how he tore it up at the scrimmage and the one guy said he's confused they moved him to 5! I'm in no way trying to say I don't care for coach Dernbach and I have total faith in what he's building and know it takes time.

I truly wish I were kidding but I'm not and it's no guarantee both or either of those two kids don't return either but I'm positive the thought is there of if they get offered jobs they're gone which is insane thought and wouldn't have happened years ago but may with both after semester ends. Ask yourself though would you want to pay to go to school another semester when you don't need to just to play basketball on a team in disarray? Buchanan has his covid year also which kind of sucks if he plans to go. Miron isn't shocking either the kid was just the best qb in state last year and footballs his best sport. I'm stunned Whitewater lost but a loss early doesn't hurt either!

I wouldn't be 100 % certain Buchanan and Makinen will still be playing basketball any longer after the semester from what I've been told both are graduating in December and would need to enroll in school for another semester and have job interviews in the next couple of days and plan to leave school if offered jobs! It's a different world now days for both players and coaches you have kids who feel entitled or have attitude just because I started last year or did this in high school I deserve to play and coaches are all guilty of lying to kids telling them oh we have to get rid of these kids they don't know how to win and then kids get there and no one gets cut and you have far too many kids on the roster leading to fighting amongst kids and parents being bent out of shape because they sat and listened to all the lies and promises!

I finally got the full scoop regarding Landon ValCaster and all I can say is wow and sounds like two wealthy families and his ex girlfriend beat him to getting an attorney so a restraining order led him to moving back to his parents house where he's staying with younger brother while parents live in Arizona. He wants to play basketball unfortunately it won't be at Point ever again! It also sounds like the Pointers could potentially be without 2 guards who see a lot of time as they have job offers and aren't overly thrilled about some things going on within the team. In addition, I was told by a source I know is truthful that Butler and his father whose a pastor met with Dernbach during summer and Josiah made it very clear he's 1 and done and that is goal is to play d1 basketball which is great I wish the kid luck unfortunately it's not helping build the program. Seth Miron is also telling kids on campus he's not playing basketball after this season and is going to see what schools want him as a QB which doesn't surprise me. If true that's a huge blow and there's so much more including no one on the team is having fun and it's just flat out chaos and turmoil and quite honestly in a way you can see it in their play with some kids only playing offense and zero d and also some kids being allowed to turn ball over 3-4 times in 5 minutes and others being pulled after 1 turnover. I want the Pointers to be great again or consistently in top 25 as bad as anyone but from sounds of it there's a ton of turmoil and unhappy kids and parents!

That's a great point about the kids needing to get every loose ball as they're really truly lacking a dominant defensive player. I've seen opponents get way too easy looks and we're missing far to many uncontested shots. Is there a lot of offensive talent on this team I'd say without question but a few kids are going to need to step it up on defense for this team to have any chance of winning games in conference. The kid who gave up d1 volleyball could be great defensively if he bulks up a little and Miron seems to play hard both ends. Baumgartner needs to step it up in a big way I heard over and over how great he would be right away which I questioned because the WIAC just is not a conference where many freshman are great right away! He's clearly a talented offensive player but another one whose going to have to box out and get the loose balls. The Pointers are so undersized and have to get a true big next year I'm talking 6'8-6'9" and over 225 that can protect the rim and clear out boards.

I should've made it clear I'm not questioning what coach Dernbach is doing just pointing out the caliber players they've lost in the last couple weeks and more to come potentially. I've been told the kids that aren't there any longer all had attitude problems and it's a good thing they're gone. Kids need to remember once you graduate high school and try to play in college no one cares what you did in high school the WIAC is truly a mans league so physical and you have to be ready to take a beating physically!

What's going on at UWSP?? Found out today Bowling Green transfer Jackson Watson quit the team along with Brennan Timm and all is not going well right now! That's after the departure of Landon Val Caster unexpectedly which was a 6'8" kid who could shoot it and was extremely versatile. I think it's way too early to judge and people kind of have to expect there would be battle for spots and playing time. I hope it's not true that some are already calling for Scott Anderson to be in charge of the team!

Do the Pointers already have a roster that could surprise and finish top 4 in the WIAC? I believe Whitewater is hands down the team to beat not only in the conference but the entire nation however on any given night a team can be taken down. I'm sure it's going to take time to figure out what groups play best together but if they shoot against top level competition like they did tonight I feel they could finish as high as 2nd in Dernbachs first year. Butler reminds me of Matt Moses who was a legend at Point hard nose defense and great with the basketball in his hands creating for others but knowing when team needs his scoring also. So Impressed with Krohn and the fact he left a volleyball scholarship to play basketball for the Pointers shows he's committed very athletic and is smoothe the shots will fall just needs to bulk up a little and get ball a little lower. Miron can really shoot plus put ball on the floor and scored showing versatility. Wahid though was far and away most impressive player tonight and I feel it wasn't a fluke. I'm already so excited again to see the Pointers play and haven't felt this way in years I think the bleachers will be full again soon. It obviously would've been great to have ValCaster but if he did something bad enough to be kicked out of school he's not the type of guy I could root for. I will say I watched some video of him from his senior year and He reminded me of Cooper Flagg and Kyle Flisokowski for Duke just so athletic and versatile he's definitely a loss no denying that even though I think the Pointers could be legitimately 12 deep all day and there's a few kids after that I'd be perfectly fine seeing On the court

Someone I trust and played for the Pointers mentioned to me last year that Val Caster struggled defensively which isn't unusual for a freshman in the WIAC. I know he was smoothe offensively at freedom and really could do it all between shooting the 3 and putting ball on floor and driving to the basket. As much as I hate seeing a kid with his skill level and upside leave the program there appears to be an abundance of talent this year I'm sure someone will fill the void. When Parker Prahl isn't in your rotation either you know you have a star studded roster top to bottom because he can flat out play both ends and is extremely athletic. Hope some kids rise to the rotation or are ready if injuries happen which they will it happens to everyone such a tough physical league!
