Followed box scores throughout the night. Noticed two big absences. Michael Mayer didn't play for Williams and Ben Ferris was out for Tufts. Any updates?

Just posted this on the NESCAC board, but seeing that this thread gets ten times more traffic, I wanted throw it out here too.

Baseball America's Small Colleges preview. Not too sure about the validity of this ranking, but they should be pretty good.  BA just wanted to write about AmHerst's MLB pedigree.

That was fun...GREAT college baseball game.

How does the NESCAC tournament not have live stats?  Typical Amherst amateurism...

Anyone at the games?  I would love updates!

It's been a terrible spring in the Northeast for the weather, but the NESCAC didn't lose any league games this weekend.  Trinity and Tufts sweep Colby and Bates respectively.  Trin swept, but it was a close series with two one-run games.

Wesleyan took two of three from Hamilton and in the biggest shock of the weekend Midd sweeps Williams.  Midd came in 2-4 while Williams came in 12-2 and riding a ton of momentum.  Looked like the Ephs had a big edge, until Midd whacked them in all three games.  10-3, 17-9, 9-0 beatdowns!

My take on the NESCAC this year (before seeing this weekends results):
West (winner hosts): Williams, Amherst, Midd, Wesleyan, Hamilton
East: Bowdoin, Tufts, Bates, Trin, Colby

After this weekends results:
West: Midd, Amherst, Wes, Williams, Hamilton
East: Bowdoin, Tufts, Trin, Bates, Colby

On a related note, I noticed with dismay Vermont's misfortunes this season:  2-20 record and an RPI ranking of #315 (out of 343 D1 teams).

Has anyone seen them play?  Is the talent that bad?  New coach growing pains?

Could Amherst play them competitively?

I have heard that Gear McBride has a monster recruiting class coming in, but she walked into a very difficult situation.  UVM graduated two of the best players in program history (#3 & 5 on the all-time scoring list).  Also, the old coach Sharon Dawley took a couple players, incoming recruits, and coaches with her to UMass.  Really a classless gutting of the program by Dawley.  On top of that, Dawley had scheduled an incredibly tough slate of games for Gear McBride to play including Nebraska, Marist, BC, Michigan St., Kansas St., and Oklahoma St.   UVM women's hoops has a strong history and should be fine, but Dawley really screwed them for a year or two.

As for the Amherst vs. UVM discussion.  This year I believe a stacked Amherst team would beat them, but UVM did beat Franklin Pierce (a perennial DII power) in the preseason, so you never know.  I'm a DIII guy myself, but scholarship athletes are tough to compete against without scholarships.

Any possible candidates for the Norwich job?  NESCAC assistants?  Castleton assistants?

If that field project can go through that would make the job a lot more appealing!

I have never understood why NESCAC baseball doesn't have nicer fields.  Trinity's field is embarrassing and I don't understand why it hasn't been upgraded at least a little.  Agreed on Amherst's yard - they could use dugouts, but it's a great setting and a pretty good surface.  Lack of nice fields has nothing to do with a lack of $$.  The mid-week travel in baseball is part of why some teams don't get the same respect.  I wouldn't be shocked if a team in the conference gets a turf field sometime in the near future.

Don't even know if Trinity will be ready at that point.  They have one of the worst fields in the region.  All NESCAC schools have very below average field except Tufts.  I think that's the only field with dugouts as well.

Hobbesy - As a NESCAC guy, I have to correct you.  Williams might have the best field in the conference - dugouts, great surface...just a terrible location on campus (about a 15 minute walk from everything).   Middlebury, Bates, Hamilton and Colby all have dugouts as well, but not great surfaces.

No way that game gets played in Maine on March 20th...Is that at a local turf field or are they just hoping for the best with the weather?

Wesleyan's field is a great setting, but a terrible surface and no dugouts.  You can get stoned sitting on the bench b/c all the hippies smoke pot on the hill down the left field line!  Williams has the nicest field in the NESCAC, but the field is all the way at the end of campus.  Trinity and Amherst have similar fields in terms of a great on campus setting, but Amherst's surface is MUCH nicer.

Babson had the nicest facilities I played at in college.  Great setting, dugouts, and surface.

21 & 21 tonight...Whittington is a monster.  Wang had 8 more TO's in a 23-point win over Hamilton which is a little worrisome.  Good win for the Ephs.

This early loss to Framingham could come back and bite MIT if they can't win the NEWMAC and need an at-large.  While the three NESCAC teams are clearly the top of the region all have had early struggles, so this should be a wide open and fun year.

Crazy game between Southern VT and Skidmore getting some love on ESPN.  7 OT's!!

SVC's Lance Spratling played all 75 minutes in the lose.  Almost two games in one night.  The link doesn't show this, but Spratling was interviewed on Sportscenter this morning and was pretty funny.  The SC anchors really liked his sense of humor and the his comfort level in the interview.
