General Division III issues / Combining programs/schools
February 25, 2018, 09:02:40 AM
Not sure if this has been discussed before but this is the first I've heard of it.  (I posted on the ECFC football page as well)

So I'm working at the NECC women's basketball semi-final game the other day (Newbury College vs. Elms College), and the Newbury AD tells me that Hellenic College (small Greek Orthodox school in Boston) and Newbury have "combined" athletic departments and students at Hellenic College can play sports at Newbury College.

Now I read in the Boston Globe today that Mt. Ida and Lasell are looking to "merge" schools (something different than Newbury and Hellenic).  Would this now mean that Lasell students could play football at Mt. Ida?

This seems to be a new thing, with Boston University "merging" with Wheelock as well.  Obviously BU is D1 and Wheelock has several d3 programs.  Not sure how that is going to work out in the future as well in terms of athletics.

Too early?

Ok it is a little late but here goes.......

-Who has more motivation for this game?  From reading some of the around the east notes on the Ithaca season, it seems like the Ithaca kids are saying the right things, and more importantly, doing the right things.  It's nice to see an Ithaca team win the games they need to win to get to this point.  Real funny to see that they were basically one crappy loss away from an undefeated season, and probably the first ever?

-Weather report for tomorrow?  Although I haven't been to Ithaca in over 5 years, the grass could be a factor.  As nice as it looks in August (probably the nicest field in the country in my biased opinion), the grass can get sloppy in November.  Will warm temps today loosen up that soil?

-As for playing on that surface, I always thought it would give the defense (Ithaca) the advantage, but that never seems to be the case in Cortaca games.  Loose turf sometimes hurts the defense if defenders/tacklers are falling down.

-Is Cortland a defeated team? Can they get up for this game?  What is the inside scoop on what this team is about?

-And finally, are there enough Phys Ed. jobs for the 2014-2015 school year available for Cortland football players who are thinking about their future careers?

General football / Question on NCAA rule
October 19, 2007, 01:18:58 PM
Anyone know the rule on holding hands by two players on a kickoff return team?

I mean when the ball is kicked, and then two players meet and hold hands at a certain area, and then move together for a double team block?

I know they cant clothesline someone and block together, but can they line up, form hands, run a few yards while holding hands and then let go before they block someone?

Thanks
