andersson will be better then people think
the undefeated teams have to prove it with wins this weekend.
Franklin lost to Anderson mid week, Rose hasn't even played a conference game yet!!!
It's going to be a great season for the HCAC

HCAC--- final week outlook---It's obvious that no one wants to host the tournament.
( 2004 is the last time and i believe the 2nd time that the regular season champ won the tournament).

              HCAC STANDINGS
                   Rose-hulman                     13-4
                   Mt. Saint Joe                     12-5
                   Transy                               13-6
                   Franklin                              13-6
                   Anderson                           11-7

Rose-Hulman has  Anderson Tuesday and three game series at Transy.
Anderson with a must win game at Rose  and three games with a dangerous
            Bluffton team.
Franklin has three games with Hanover.
The Mount finishes with 4 home games. Hanover (3-15) on Tuesday and
            3 games with Defiance (1-18).

Just looking at the remaining games it looks like Mount St. Joes has the best shot at winning the conference. I just do not see them losing this week, but that is why the play the game.

The Mount/Rose game the was cancelled looks to be a big game that was missed in the conference standings.

Nothing like going down to the last games of the season to decide the conference championship.

Should be interesting how this week of conference games play out.

CRUNCH TIME:     if Rose beats Transy Sunday, they are the host.
If Transy loses and Anderson wins, Anderson will be the last team in.
If Transy wins and the Mount wins, The Mount will host the tournament.

You can add one more scenario to your list.

If Mount and Rose both lose I believe that Franklin will be the host.

Franklin was down 13 - 8 going into the top of the ninth at Hanover and scored eleven runs to win the game and give them at shot at being conference chanpions.

It has been an exciting race to see who was going to make the conference tournament between the top five teams.

Good Luck to all the teams that make the tournament.

Transy scores 5 Runs in the bootm of the eighth and holds Rose to 1 Run in the top of ninth to win 5 - 3.

Waiting on the final score of the Mount/Defiance game to see who wins the conference.

Mount wins they are the champs
Defiance wins and Franklin wins the conference.

Top 4 Conference Standings

1 - Mount St. Joseph
2 - Franklin
3 - Rose-Hulham
4 - Transylvania

Rumor has it that the tournament may be played at the University of Cincinatti.

Good luck to all the teams in the tournament.

good luck to all of the teams competing in the conference tourney.  Should be a great 4-some.

Any chance for an at-large birth in this field for the #2?  Some very solid teams in the mideast this year.

That is a good question. I believe there was only a 1 1/2 games between the first and fourth place team in the conference.

Nobody swept any of the top four teams in conference play.
Rose was 1 - 1 against Franklin & Mount St. Joes, 1 - 2 against Transy.
Mount St. Joes was 1 - 1 against Transy & Rose, 1 - 2 against Franklin.
Transy was 2 - 1 against Franklin & Rose, 1 -1 against Mount St. Joes.
Franklin was 2 - 1 against Mount St. Joes, 1 - 2 against Transy, 1 - 1 against Rose.

I guess you will have to see the final regional rankings to see if anyone is still ranked high in the mideast region. In the first rankings Mount St. Joes and Franklin were in the top eight, but in the second rankings Mount St. Joes stayin the top eight as Franklin dropped out and Rose Huhlman moved in. I am sure the next regional rankings will also be different.

I believe it was two years ago that the HCAC got an at large berth when Manchester dominated the conference but lost to Mount St. Joes in the tournament.

I was just wandering, if the Rose-Huhlman would have beaten Mount St. Joes in the game that was cancelled it would have left a three way tie between Rose/Mount/Franklin. Does any one know who would have won the tiebreaker in that situation?

Can't wait to till Thursday , should be an exciting tournament just as the conference play was.

Well it looks like the rumor about the HCAC being played at UC was just that a rumor.

On Mount St. Joes website it says that the tournamnet will be played at Midland. Game times TBA.

Sorry for the rumor. :-[

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man who survived a 2007 bus crash that killed five of his Ohio college baseball teammates and two other people says he had flashbacks this week when he went through another serious accident with another team -- fellow cyclists he'll lead on a cross-country ride for charity.

Bluffton Dropped 2 to OWU this pass weekend. Gotta feel for the Bluffton pitcher, who balked in the winning run in the first game.

Bluffton ended up using quite a bit of pitching. Ryan Leugers lasted .2 of an inning because of back problems. He was replaced by Tyler Gibson who had a good outing before being replaced by Ben Roeschley.

Transy had a good start to the season beating two very good teams:

Birmingham Southern raked number 6 in D3 Baseballs top 25: 16-0

I'm glad to see that there's hopefully going to be some regional realignment soon. It will be nice to have the HCAC in the same region in multiple sports. I've had problems remembering which region to look under to find Franklin. Baseball in Mid-East, mens and womens soccer as well as women's basketball in the Great Lakes, mens basketball in the Midwest, football in the North. At least we didn't have any teams in the South (like the Indianapolis Colts) ::)

Manchester has had some impressive scores early but not so much great competition. Hopefully they can get their weekend series with DePauw in this weekend.

Bluffton's also playing well...after what they went through a few years back I'd definitely like to see them do well. 5-1 in region, 6-2 overall so far including a split with John Carroll who i think is a pretty decent team.

I agree about Manchester because they only have one quality win IMO.  Bluffton does look good early, but it is too early to tell how they'll play the rest of the season.  I'm hoping for all HCAC teams to fair well against non-conference opponents and then battle it out in league play.

Anderson and Manchester on out to great starts to open up HCAC play with Hanover and RHIT closely behind.  Still waiting to see the results of the Anderson/Manchester game to see who will sit alone on top.
I'm happy with how Defiance is playing so far, considering their expectations in the preseason poll.  Hoping they continue to play well and challenge for a spot in the top four..  Think they need to open it up to more teams than four, but probably an economic reason for that.

In general, the HCAC isn't considered one of the top conferences in the Mideast.  It's representative in the regional generally gets a seed in the lower half of the bracket (deserved or not).  Even last year, Manchester had a pretty tough team, but still got a #7 seed before nearly making it to Appleton.

Back in 2010, RHIT was ranked as high as #12 before making it to the regional, only to get a 5 seed in the 6 team Central regional.

Personally, I think the conference is better than its reputation in most years, but that might be the homer in me coming out.  I think Manchester is very strong this year and is likely to run away with the regular season title.  However, this conference has a history of not sending its regular season champ to the tournament.

I think RHIT is very young.  If they can gain some consistency, they could be dangerous down the stretch.  Hanover was definitely bringing in some good talent in the last couple years I was still playing.  I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run.  It looks like the HCAC has more depth than it has had in recent years, with no real pushovers, but I'm not sure there's another top team that can compete with Manchester this year.

Well, I guess then I am happy my Jackets are playing better then they were expected to.  Hopefully they can continue to win games and try to make a push for the top four in the HCAC and make the four team tourny.  Not expecting much after that, but it would be great to see that happen for a team that has struggled to have a winning record since 1999!

Well, it has fallen quite again here and can't complain because this is only my first year posting for baseball, but have to say it has been a good year to start so far.  DC is currently in third with a 1/2 game lead over RHIT in HCAC standings.  Tough stretch is ahead though playing Manchester one game and then two three game series away at RHIT and Transy.  Also need to throw in their 4/24 DI match up against Toledo too.
I hope that DC can take the two series against RHIT and Transy to lock down a top four spot and head to the HCAC tourney.  Either way, it looks as if everyone but Earlham and MSJ are fighting for a top four spot.  At least things are still interesting!

But you got to admit compared to the last five years of posts you would have to call this year busy.

Congratulations to Franklins freshman pitcher Hayden Cleveland for breaking the schools single game strikeout record by recording 15 K's in nine innings against Mount St. Joseph this past weekend.

His 15 stikeouts broke Franklin College's previous strikeout record of 14 posted by David Verdeyen in 2003 and matched by Andy Clark in 2008.

A couple of huge series this weekend between Defiance/Rose and Transy/Franklin.  A few splits this weekend could set up an exciting final weekend in the race for the final two tourney spots.

Rose-Hulman has been aided in the last few weekends by the addition of two freshman to the weekend rotation in Karson Nixon and Andrew Stull.  They need to get the bats going if they want to compete with a team like Manchester - the team is only hitting .271 with a team SLG of .334.

Franklins tough loss to RHIT yesterday with a score of 6 - 5 may have hurt their chances of making the conference tournament.

With conference playing ending this week it looks like Manchester and Anderson are in. Leaving RHIT, Transy, Defiance and Franklin battling it out for the last two spots with only 1 1/2 games separating the 3rd place to 6th place teams.

It looks like Franklin's only chance to get in would be to sweep Anderson and then would need Defiance to win two of the three games against Transy.

I like RHIT's chances of getting in by finishing conference against Earlham.

Good Luck Grizzlies this weekend.

It's going to come down to the Sunday doubleheader at Earlham (against RHIT) for the final spot in the HCAC tourney with Franklin's impressive sweep of Anderson to lock up a bid.  Earlham pounded RHIT 10-3 today.

Scenarios:

If Earlham sweeps both games:
1 vs 4: Manchester vs. Defiance
2 vs 3: Anderson vs. Franklin

If they split the DH:
1 vs 4: Manchester vs. RHIT
2 vs 3: Anderson vs. Franklin

If RHIT sweeps the doubleheader:
1 vs 4: Manchester vs. Franklin
2 vs 3: Anderson vs. RHIT

Obviously, I'll be pulling for the Engineers tomorrow.  But kudos either way to Defiance this year.  They've been improving each year and took a big step during this one.

Yes I'd love for Earlham to sweep RHIT, but the odds of that are not very good.  Either way, I agree that Defiance has improved and has done much better than they were predicted to do this year.  I  hope that they can continue to put together more winning seasons.  This is their first winning season season 1999 and their first 20 win season since 1995, so keep it going.

Good luck to Earlham and RHIT tomorrow and hopefully it will be an exciting two games.

The Quakers take the first game of the doubleheader 8-7 in a wild game.  It's now win or go home for RHIT.

Crazy end of the season in the HCAC.  Rose misses the conference tourney for the first time since 2008 after being swept by Earlham.

Congrats to Defiance!  I'll be rooting for them in the tourney!

(Keep in mind that the regular season champs have not won the conference tournament in quite a few years....)

WOW!!!

What a conference finish. No way I thought RHIT would get swept. Congrats to both Franklin and Defiance for making the tournament.

It looks like the jinx of the regular season champion not winning the conference tournament may be coming to an end the way Manchester has been playing, but that is why they play the game.

Good Luck Grizzlies and also to Defiance dc_has_been even after this post. (Well, Defiance took the two out of three from Transy, but I am hoping you don't take two out of three from Anderson!) ;D

I know this forum does not have much traffic, but Son is playing Transy on 3-1 in Lexington. I was checking out the field to see if it would hold up to the weather. I ran across this article e and thought I would post it here.

Final game of the regional down at Texas Lutheran is about to get underway. Franklin won earlier against Concordia (TX) 13-4 to force the rematch. Concordia no-hit the Grizzlies in a 4-0 win yesterday. Should be a good one. Good luck Grizzlies

Good effort, but fizzled out at the end. Concordia gets 2 in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th to come back and win 6-4. Grizzlies finish 31-15 for the season.
