It is time to find out who is in... and who is out.
Whose bubble has been burst and who is wearing Cinderella's glass slippers.
It's Selection Sunday... and tonight there will be a special "Hoopsville" as the 2005 NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Brackets are announced... LIVE on our air!
The Road to Salem and Virginia Beach officially starts tonight!

It plans to be a huge night... as 50 womens and 48 mens teams are officially invited to the dance and a chance at a national title.

Some teams already know they are going (thanks to winning their conferences) and some think they are going, but there are always surprises.

So tonight, we will break it all down. Starting at 8:30 PM EST, we will take a look at who is definitely in, who might make it, who will be disappointed, and what match-ups you might want to look forward to seeing later in the week.

Then at 10:00 PM EST... we will broadcast LIVE the Women's Selection Show so you can find out when we do... the 50 teams on the Road to Virginia Beach.

That will be followed by the Men's Selection Show at 10:30 PM EST - when 48 teams find out what their Road to Salem will be like.

After those selections... we will go over it with a fine-tooth comb and find out who we think are the surprises!

And throughout the show, we will hear from different regions with live reports and talk to coaches that have made surprising moves into the tournament.

Of course, you can listen in thank to Goucher College.
We suggest you try and use the low-bandwith signal which will require you to have Real Player and selection the 28K version of the show.
At the same time, you can listen to the Broadcastmonsters.com version, using Windows Media Player (go to the "Hoopsville" page for more information).

And you can share your opinions and questions with us, live on the air.
email - hoopsville@d3hoops.com
AOL IM - Hoopsville2000

And for more information... check out the "Hoopsville" website (www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville)!

Again... it all starts tonight at 8:30 PM EST.

Hey all, it's time to reactivate this place.  As a long time observer of SUNYAC WBB, I'm convinced that the conference is stronger than ever.  Many more teams are contending for a spot at the Aud.  In recent years, Oswego has emerged as a new power in the league.  Ostate, Cstate, Bport and been traditional favorites with Fredonia and Gen, Buffstate too,  often there.  What are  your predictions for this year?  As you follow your favorite team, who are the ones to watch?
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: cstatealum on January 08, 2006, 05:12:35 PM
My prediction is C-state all the way.  Last year was the first year they didn't make it to the finals since Yeoman took over and there is no way that Coach Yo will let that happen again.  Not to mention those freshman are nasty and Sara Cavanaugh is lighting it up again.  Kaylin VanDusen can not stand losing in her home town and if she keeps playing the way she is, it's hands down.  Go c-state.
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: docksider on January 09, 2006, 12:59:26 AM
C-state is certainly off to a strong start.  The trio of seniors are all playing well, and getting better each game.  If the very talented juniors, soph, and frosh emulate the seniors' work ethic, C-State will likely be at the Aud, perhaps at the final game again.  Coach Yeoman's record would only add to that probability.  Still, they'll have to show up every day.  There are very few, if any, easy wins in SUNYAC anymore.
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: docksider on January 11, 2006, 01:28:20 AM
C-state holds posession of first place with 51-44 win at Oneonta.  Oswego has decisive win over a very good Fredonia team, 60-38, while NP domonates IT, 70-54.  Geneseo & Buff State win non con matchups, while Brockport falls to SJF and Potsdam loses to Clarkson, 71-60.

There's a  threeway tie for second (Gen, Broc and Oswego) which leaves things wide open, especially with Gen topping Naz in overtime (given that Naz nipped C-Sate in December).

Still have to give credit to C-state for posting 2 of its three conference wins on the road against perennial powers, Brockport and Oneonta.

So much more to come.  Gotta love it!
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: docksider on January 20, 2006, 12:08:14 AM
Any predictions?

Friday, January 20
Buffalo State  at Brockport
Potsdam  at Fredonia
Geneseo  at Oneonta
Oswego  at New Paltz
Plattsburgh  at Cortland

Saturday, January 21
Potsdam  at Buffalo State
Plattsburgh  at Fredonia
Geneseo  at New Paltz
SUNYIT  at Brockport
Oswego  at Cortland

Based on current standings, the main event is Oswego at Cortland on Saturday night.  Likely the matchup that shakes up or solidifies the current standings.  It's the only Ows v Cort matchup, so tiebreaker implictions would seem to be big.  That said, both of those teams have to prevail on Friday for Saturday to hold the drama. And a slip up by either puts a lot of other teams in play for the top spots.

I was thisclose to heading down to NP for the game, then changed my mind at the last minute.  You know, I assumed when I read the local paper this morning that they had gotten it wrong.  18-point comeback in 2 minutes, 50 seconds?  Scoring 28 points in that timeframe?  That's impossible!  Guess not.   Good for the Hawks, even if C-State will slap them silly on Friday.

We'll see.  Hartwick hasn't been any good in several years now, and an E8 poster or two with knowledge of the 'Wick program (certainly not me) implied there was some player/coach friction going on.

However, from Hartwick's end, letting what was  your most successful D3 coach simply walk across town after 15 years is yet another indication of their refusal to even try and compete in any of their sports.  Gosh, I'm ever so glad (/sarcasm) that Ithaca is stuck in the same league as those yahoos.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but last night Potsdam beat St. Lawrence on the road 57-55.

Potsdam trailed at the half, built a double digit lead in the second half, in large part due to the play of PG Hannah Fairchild, then withstood a furious SLU rally.  With the game tied at 55, Potsdam turned the ball over on the in bounds play after the tying basket.  Then in a scene reminescent of "Havlicek stole the ball" Potsdam's Cortney Poirier stole the inbounds pass with :04 and was fouled.  Poirier made both shots and Potsdam defended the final sequence.  Last season, SLU beat Potsdam by 25 en route to a 24-4 season.  Two years ago, Potsdam was 2-23, last year 11-15, and now suddenly competitive.

Great coaching job by Tara Ruckh.  Her team is led by a group of former class c and d all-state players from small schools in Northern NY (4 starters, and 10 of 13 players in all from Northern NY).  She has been very patient in developing this group of young women into a competitive team, and a great story.

Good point.  Potsdam beating St. Lawrence would usually be just about inconceivable but after I saw the box score of IC only beating Potsdam by 4, I thought to myself, "whaddaya know, they're actually not awful this season."  Still didn't think they could beat the Lady Larries though...nice job by former Bomber assistant Tara Ruckh (and her assistant, ex-Bomber player Molly Brennan).

How about the SUNYAC's beating up on the Liberty League so far this season.  Both Brockport and Oswego beat RPI, Oswego over Skidmore, Potsdam over St. Lawrence and Clarkson, and New Paltz over Vassar.  Looks like the SUNYAC is te best league in the state.
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: rochnative on December 14, 2007, 08:55:58 AM

What is going on with the SUNYAC this year?  Traditional powers are struggling (especially on the west side) and the usual "doormats" are flexing their muscles.

Oswego loses to Potsdam (at Oswego) and Geneseo is getting their doors blown off (1-6).  Potsdam beat St. Lawrence earlier in the year (are they for real?) and Geneseo has 10 players back from a consistently top squad in the league.  New Paltz is coming on strong and Oneonta is off to a rough start as well.

What is going on??????????????????????
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: thebear on December 16, 2007, 08:22:06 PM
Potsdam has a veteran team, loaded with first & second team all state players from the Class C & D schools in the North Country.  They are still young (only two seniors, who both come off the bench).  The important thing is that most of these girls have spent their entire lives in winning, dominant programs, and as they adjust to the speed and physicality of the college game, that attitude that we can beat anyone is still there.

The starting five are athletic and "long".  They can go 9 or 10 deep, and they play solid team defense.  Don't know if they are ready to compete with the Cortland's of the world yet, but their wins at Oswego and at SLU show that they will be more competitive than in the past.

My read is that Cortland & Brockport are the front-runners, and clearly excellent teams.  I think everyone else is in the mix, and teams that can win on the road will have an advantage.  Even SUNYIT, a traditional doormat, is showing signs of solid play, and has already posted a couple of upsets.

The SUNYAC was getting too predictable, so a little uncertainty is a good thing for the conference.

Potsdam's women play next at the South Padre Island Shootout, facing traditional New England Power Colby-Sawyer on 12/28.

Post by: rochhopps on December 17, 2007, 04:19:57 PM
Sems like Potsdam may do some damage in the usually "soft" east side of the Conference.  Cant believe the split for the SUNYAC.  West will def. go to Brockport or Oswego.  The others will beat up on eachother and knock eachother out.

The East is Cortland/NP/or it seems Potsdam.  Who would of though that a few years ago???  Cortland has been the mainstay but playing each other 2x will determine who is the best on their side.

Wacky schedule no more for this conference ;D
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: Caz Bombers on December 17, 2007, 05:12:20 PM
Nobody has stayed within 15 points of Cortland this year.  Nobody has beaten Cortland at their place in the regular season since February 2004.  They are the overwhelming favorites until proven otherwise.  Potsdam  and New Paltz are no longer bottom-feeders, but they are far from C-State's caliber.
Title: Re: SUNYAC
Post by: thebear on December 17, 2007, 08:26:15 PM
BTW - Potsdam women handled Oswego at Laker Hall 85-70.  Brockport has balance - four players in doubles, very rare for a women's team at any level.

Post by: lom on December 18, 2007, 11:10:24 PM
You are right, Cortland has not won a game by less then 15, but who have they played?  Not one team with a winning record.  When they start beating some half way decent teams we will talk.  Yes looks good that they are ranked so high, it will look even better for the other conference teams that are going to beat them.

We need to get some more chat going here.  So much for the East being soft.  The East is 16 and 4 against the West, and it looks like it is going to continue this weekend.
Potsdam/Cortland will also be an interesting match-up, and I looking to see if anyone out west can beat Brockport.  Maybe Oswego tonight?

Looks like not, as I said a month ago.  NP did come within 13, closer than any SUNYAC team has gotten yet against C-State.  Honestly, if they get by that 2/5 game at Brockport, that's it, they're running the table.

The NP/Cortland game was much closer then 13 points.  NP was up by 2 with about 2 or 3 to play and just couldn't finish, Crtland hit 3 big 3's and then NP started fouolling.  NP dominated them across the board for the majority of the game, they shot the ball very poorly and still had a shot at the end.  NP will get them at home in two weeks.

Didn't see anything that would convince me of that in our game on Tuesday.

Frosh Taylor Armondo (watch her) & Vanessa Arthurton were the factors that kept Lady Cards in the game.

Thought Lady Bears would have trouble when Cards surged to tie with about 7:00 to play, but then Poirier & Lewis took the game over and stretched out.

Cards well coached as always.

Greg Dunn experienced that short trip to an alternate reality today. You know. A game at Oswego impartially administered by a the Boys from Syracuse, IAABO 38. Remember when the Boys from Syracuse was a National Guard squadron? That was a great crew.

Coach Dunn really drew the short straw for his first game in Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers have been 64-9, or so, at home for the last four years and close to that for at least the previous three.  I'm told that the legendary Jerry Welsh, Tom Murphy, and others understood the value of home court advantage and coach Broderick continues that tradition. Today's crew included The Book, The Whistle, and Shemp. Getting one of the first two in Oswego is tough but getting two is just plain unlucky. Disbelief was frequently the order of the day on the Brockport bench and with the Golden Eagles fans. Coach Dunn earns enormous positive karma for only drawing a single technical at exactly the right time.

Brockport opened the game with an up tempo 20 – 5 run and basically held on from there, up 13 at the half and closing up 16. Oswego had a couple of mini-runs but Brockport always responded.

Score aside, the Eagles and Lakers are great to watch. Both have speed, can push the ball, have shooters, and play their individual brands of tough defense.

Today, Oswego ran a half court weave much of the game and got no scoring from 3. Nine Lakers got more than ten minutes but only four scored more than 3 points. Tommy Downing never got hot today and wasn't alone.

After the opening run, Brockport's Dave Moldanado and Mychal (Mych ?) Wilkes got into early foul trouble (see paragraph 2, above) and had their minutes held in check, 9 and 18 respectively. Brockport opened the game with Wilkes on the Laker's senior point Nick Perioli – a great match up to watch while it lasted. The Eagles pounded the ball inside and their guards dropped some great inside passing on Oswego. Brandon Williams is quick, strong, and fearless - 23 points, 9 boards. Still, the paint was frequently an unpleasant place for anyone trying to enter or anyone already there.

Without a major surprise, Brockport wins out (been wrong many times before) and Plattsburg faces the biggest challenge with a trip into Cortland on Friday the 22nd.

The tournament is shaping up to be a classic.  Spread the word and get your campuses and communities behind their teams. And if you're a hockey school, you might be surprised that you'll see the same game played – on the hardwood and, most of the time, without sticks.

Come out to watch and make noise.

Actually, the posters have no clue what they're talking about.  I've been following Hartwick closely since 1994-94.  Coach Thompson is the best coach the program has ever had.  Now that she's at SUCO, I'm a SUCO fan (but still a Hartwick fan).
I'll spare all of you a lengthy history lesson, but if you're curious, just read some of my earlier posts in the E8 forum.

Potsdam beat Ithaca 68-66.  Potsdam junior Rachel Graf (Elbridge, NY) took an inbounds pass with .6 left on the clock, turned and banked a 6 footer for the win.  Graf led all scorers with 21, also scoring in double figures for the Lady Bears were Cortney Poirier (Moira, NY) with 14, Hannah Fairchild (Brushton, NY) with 11, and Molly Krauza (Fredonia, NY) with 11.

Potsdam had a 30-18 edge in rebounding, and held Ithaca to 4 offensive rebounds.

Katherine Bixby (Philadelphia, PA) led the Lady Bombers with 16, and was aided by Lindsay Brown (Danbury, CT) with 12, Tracy Bradley(Brunswick, ME) with 11, and Elissa Klie(Wyckoff, NJ) with 11.

Potsdam moves to 3-1 on the season, while Ithaca drops to 3-3.  The win is significant because the Bombers had beaten SUNYAC powers Cortland & Oswego on the road in the past week.

Potsdam's next game is at Clarkson on Tuesday in a 6 PM start.  The Bombers host 2007 NCAA Elite 8 team William Smith at the Bulb on Tuesday.

Potsdam is a contender in the SUNYAC this year.  Coach Ruckh has really turned that program around.  Ithaca is a team that is well coached and will always get better as the season continues.  It helped Postdam that asst. coach Molly Brennan is an Ithaca grad. (a little inside info always helps!)

Potsdam women move to 8-1 with a 75-68 decision at Skidmore.

Bears are led by Sr. F. Moe Curley with 20 pts and 9 rebounds.  Juniors Rachel Graf. Cortney Poirier, and Molly Krauza
had 13, 12 & 10 pts respectively, while senior Center Kelsey Shoen had 10 rebounds and 6 assists.

Junior Sharlyn Harper came off the bench for the Thorughbreds to lead all scorers with 24 points, including 5x9 from beyond the arc.

Bears make the long road trip to Buffalo and Fredonia this weekend.  Winning streak now at 8 straight.

Seniors on this team (Shoen & Curley) were 2-23 as freshmen.  Major turnaround for the Bears under Tara Ruckh.

East division of SUNYAC is tough this year.  Cortland, Oneonta, Potsdam and New Paltz all beating up on each other...

What has happened to the West teams??  The west was dominate there for about 5 years with the exception of Cortland and now they are horrible.  Buffalo State, Geneseo- combined 5 wins between them and 2 of Geneseo's are against a below par RIT team...  Brockport is struggling and Fredonia will in conference.  My how times have changed...

Was sort of true last year as well, four of the top 5 seeds were in the east.  Brockport won the title, but also lost in the regular season to Potsdam who finished 4th in the east.

The scary thing is there are few graduation losses among the top four teams in the East, who heading into the meat of conference play have a combined 40-8 record, 17-1 in conference and 23-7 out of conference.

Oneonta and New Paltz are at Potsdam this weekend, so that should clarify who's the real deal at least for a while.

Should be a fun six weeks.

Just to let you know, there are no divisions in SUNYAC basketball this year. That was a one-year situation in 2007-08 when there were 12 teams. With SUNYIT's departure, the league has returned to an 11-team, non-division set up with an unbalanced schedule.

I somehow forgot to share this earlier today. I apologize. We had Scott Hemer on Hoopsville tonight. We are still on the air, as I type this, but you can watch it On Demand already (just scroll back) or watch it later. The segment aired around fifteen minutes in the show.

Scott was terrific in what is hands down the toughest interview I have ever had to conduct covering Division III.

It isn't easy to coach at any level. It is a joy to coach Division III says many a coach. Some enjoy it on their way up the ladder, others on their way closer to retirement, and others as their passion.

Tonight on Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) we talk to many coaches in different aspects of their careers with varying teams who are succeeding on the court and off of it because of what coaching has taught them including facing the challenges no one should face especially off the court.

Hoopsville hits the air tonight at 7:00 pm ET with a jam packed show. Talking to programs who are leading their conferences or in the hunt facing the challenge that not everyone expect them to be competitive. We also talk to a few coaches who are taking care of more than Xs and Os. They are taking care of their team after a horrific circumstance of a player's murder or looking out of their own battling cancer.

You can watch the show starting at 7pm ET tonight right here: http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2015-16/jan21 (http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2015-16/jan21)

- Scott Hemer, SUNY Geneseo women's coach
- Chris Downs, St. Lawrence men's coach
- Dan Priest, Kenyon men's coach (NABC Coach's Corner)
- Guy Rancourt, Lycoming men's coach

The Division III basketball season is back from the holiday "break" - though not much of a break for many of the teams - and with the start of the 2017 part of the schedule comes plenty to talk about. Upsets in the men's Top 25 and the shocking news at out UW-Stevens Point.

Thursday night on Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com), Dave McHugh tries to get everything wrapped up in the discarded Christmas wrapping left behind. Bob Semling suspended, Geneseo women deal with another tragedy, Top 25 teams sputtering as conference season heats up, and teams trying to make an impact from under the radar.\

Hoopsville hits the air at 7:00 PM ET. You can tune in live, watch it on Facebook Live, or catch-up on Demand here: http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2016-17/jan5

Tonight's guest list (in order of appearance):
- Daley Ryman, Sports Director, NewsChannel 7 (WSAW) - UWSP Suspensions
- Cheri Harrer, Baldwin Wallace women's coach
- Scott Hemer, SUNY Geneseo women's coach
- Chad Dickman, Hood men's coach

The grind of conference play is in full gear. Nothing beats a team up or reveals how good one is like the grind of conference play.

Thursday night on Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) we take a look at the grind and how teams are surviving, surprising, and even impressing as the holidays and the break quickly become a distant memory in the rear view mirror.

The first of the season's "WBCA Center Court" segments also debuts with the dedication of one coach off the court and with her family. UW-Platteville women's coach Megan Wilson talks about her daughter's battle with cancer and the decision to step away from coaching to help her daughter fight.

It is now or never.

The last week of the Division III basketball regular season is here. Conferences will decide who will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Tournaments and teams try and position themselves for at-large bids, hosting opportunities, and bracketing considerations.

For teams who have been faltering, this is the last chance to right the ship. For programs which have underachieved, this is the last opportunity to live up to expectations. And of course for those with Cinderella dreams, this is the chance to try on the glass slipper.

Sunday's Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) will cover it all in a special, extended, episode which for the first time (outside of Marathon programming) will feature a guest from each of the eight regions. We will also discuss which teams may be on the bubble, who has most likely secured at-large bid, and which teams need to win the AQs. Plus, we talk about how regions as we know it now could very well change in the future.

Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. Sunday's show will hit the air at 6:00 p.m. ET. It can be watched live right here: http://bit.ly/2EeG5ZE (and simulcast on Facebook Live and Periscope).

The Division III basketball season has reached the point where many conferences are making the turn into the second half of their double-round robins. The landscape of those conferences has gotten a little more in focus ... and there are some surprises.

Thursday on Hoopsville, we chat with a few coaches whose teams are on top of their conference races either surprising many with that simple fact or getting there with surprising outcomes.

Plus, we talk to a coach (whose team happens to be leading their conference as well) who become a head coach in a rather surprising manner. How she adapted and now finds herself in Division III and how the coaching community also came to her aid.

There is also breaking news out of the NCAA Convention regarding regional realignment and expansion. And much more to get everyone up to speed.

Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch Sunday's show LIVE starting at 7:00 pm ET in the following ways:
