Quote from: OzJohnnie on March 26, 2024, 10:07:05 PMA potential major situation brewing in the Australian Football League over the last few hours.  It's come out, and the AFL has admitted, that they are faking injuries in order to keep players who fail secret AFL-arranged drug tests away from World Doping Authority testers and, thereby, avoiding a doping ban.

Apparently, players call the league CEO or Commissioner or other executives (sometimes at 2am we've learned) and let them know they have been blowing coke or smoking meth or whatever.  The AFL then fires up their private testing lab to see if the players will fail and arrange fake injuries if needed.  All the while keeping clubs in the dark and avoiding club doctors.

Genuine question. They've been covering up the testing. Do we really think it's "only" for blow and meth. My gut reaction was, there have to be guys also taking PED's, and this is a method of covering that up. Which is what WADA really cares about to begin with.

The rabbit hole could be very deep. PEDs, of course. But now that you're facilitating one crime's cover-up, why not another?  Once you have convinced yourself that you're doing the right thing evading WADA rules, it becomes very easy to convince yourself that it's OK to evade other rules.  Perhaps the league should supply the drugs to make sure players aren't getting crap off the streets?  Or maybe the league should test a player's supply to make sure it's not contaminated with something even more dangerous. Maybe inform players which dealers are the 'good ones'?  Yes, the rabbit hole could be very deep indeed.

Todays reveal is that over 100 players' drug use was being managed by the league, facilitating consumption without being caught.

I honestly don't know.  Probably Geelong.
