La Crosse and St. John's were scheduled to play each other, but I heard they were already supposed to play each other outside of the GLI, so the matchups will most likely change.

Pretty hard to criticize a great D3 event like the Great Lakes Invite, but La Crosse gets paired up with St. John's, who they seem to play every other year and a host of other MIAC teams, and Marietta, who they just played in the 22-23 season. I would've like to see the Eagles go up against JHU, JCU or Emory.
I do plan on making the trip depending on who Point has at their 4-team tournament the same weekend, I believe.
On top of La Crosse's opponents...which like you said, would have been cool to see them playing teams they didn't just play...but why would La Crosse get the 1 pm time slot on both days? They kind of got the shaft on that one. I get them having the earliest game once, but not twice.
Someone on Twitter posted that they are actually already playing each other before the GLI schedule came out. Now, the organizer of the event is changing the schedule again, I believe.
Regarding the scheduling, I guess they don't want the late game participants playing an earlier game the following day. I suppose they are just trying to keep the rest periods the same? Obviously the hosts are going to get the prime time games.

How big is NIL in D3? I mean, is a D3 school going to pay thousands to keep a player? If it's only 100s, is it worth leaving a school you like to chase NIL money? I really don't have a grasp of how big NIL is at this level.
Is the local donut shop giving a kid a few 100 to show up for a meet and greet?

March 23, 2024, 08:45:38 PMQuote from: Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan) on March 23, 2024, 12:34:24 PMQuote from: Greek Tragedy on March 22, 2024, 08:59:54 PMSo, I finally listened to Coach Dernbach's radio interview, I believe the last of this season, back on March 4. He was talking about the schedule and claimed it was finished. However, "when you win a few games" sometimes teams back out, so the schedule isn't complete yet.
Something that was noted is a tournament in North Carolina the weekend before Christmas where participating teams will include "a team that has won a National Championship in the last 5 years, a team that has won a National Championship in the last 3 years, a team that has played in the National Title game in the last two years and the Pointers..." Coach Dernbach is claiming it's going to be the best D3 tournament in the country in a really long time.
Two years ago Elmhurst played in a Jay Bilas sponsored tournament in NC the weekend before Christmas - it was largely coaches that've helped run the Jay Bilas camps there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Elmhurst, RMC, and NWU there alongside UWSP - but I'm entirely speculating. Merkel and Wellman used to work together, so that would fit all the criteria Dernbach mentioned above.
That was my line of thinking when I was looking at the past Final Fours. I suppose Swat and Mount Union would be the other options, but it seems you have more insight on the connections than I do. I hope Elmhurst and Point don't play each other because they can do that anytime a lot closer to home.
I remember in a previous interview that Point will also be hosting a 4-teamer the weekend before Thanksgiving. I'll be interested to see who comes to Point as that's the same weekend as the GLI. Pretty tough to pass up 8 games in 2 days, so they'll have to be some premiere teams coming to Quandt that weekend for me to pass up a weekend in Grand Rapids.

It's been confirmed that Megnanglo will be returning for a 5th year. That is great news! I have also heard that Cam Awls will probably be coming back as well. That means we'll be only losing 2 players from the championship roster for the 24-25 season, Cortez Garland and Brent Cox.
It's going to be another dogfight in the MIAA next season between Calvin, Hope and Trine. I think both Olivet and Adrian will be much better too.
