Watched the second half of that game and Hamilton's length against the smaller Amherst guards seemed to be the difference. Most time on the floor, the lineup was 3 6'4" guys, a 6'5" guy, and a 6'8" center. Baskets were hard to come by both on the perimeter and in the paint with that length.

How much stock does everyone put into the Massey Power Ratings? Judging by those rankings, Tufts lost to the #74, #75 and #114 teams without their best player and the #94 team with their best player but without a couple of other starters. By any objective measure, a top #25 team should be able to beat those teams without a couple of key players. I would also imagine those teams were missing a few players here and there as well.

Somethings off in those stats on that NCAA site... for instance, according to that site, the leading 3 point shooter %-wise in the NESCAC is McCormick from Bates at #33, yet look at the NESCAC site and Eric Anderson is leading the conference at just over 50% (top 5 nationally) and Declan Porter is #2 which would put him in the 20s nationally. Can't be the number of attempts as they both have more shots than the #1 player listed.

Not sure if that is the only category that is off.

Couldn't watch the first half but from the box score, Hamilton appears to be missing two starters in Osarenren and Tirbaso.

In my opinion, NESCAC presidents likely to postpone or cancel athletics soon to avoid possible risk of a few infections resulting in contagion of their campus. Academicians generally uncomfortable with operating dislocations, demands on faculty and staff, and incremental costs experienced in recent past.Trustees value avoidance of criticism, not heroism .... current spikes in cases occurring in an environment of confusion and impaired logistics at national, state, and local level. Ultimate solution is for pathogens to run their course ....

Found this sensible article co-authored by the president of Hamilton. Looks like it was posted prior to CDC revision of isolation guidelines, interesting that they called for a shortening of the period.

Watched most of Colby-Gordon (Fri), some of Hamilton-Keene and most of Williams-Wesleyan. Any coach who plays zone against Colby this year should have his job questioned! Gordon played zone until 17 mins left in the game. Made a little spurt until Colby adjusted with drive and kicks - they are so quick that they will be tough to handle in man but they are deadly against the zone. Freshman King looked solid in the middle of the zone offense.

Hamilton looks deep - Kendall and Tirbaso stepped up while Gilmour struggled, looks like he missed last game so maybe he was still dealing with a nagging injury. Starting big guy McEneney hit a couple of threes as well. Some depth for this year and the future.

Williams looked solid as well, Karpowicz proved he is going to be tough to handle in the post, even had a nice drive. Rest of the team played well even though Spivey had a rough shooting night. Wesleyan looked like it may struggle this year. Hard to know if it was just an off shooting night.

Did not get a chance to watch the Hamilton game but one thing that stands out in the box score is that Gilmour scored 27 points on only 12 shots - that's remarkable efficiency.

Was able to watch from about the 10 minute mark of the first half until about the same in the second half. From what I saw you nailed the analysis nescac1. Jovan Jones was very impressive - he made two steals towards the end of the first half that led to easy buckets that changed the momentum of the game and allowed the Ephs to go in up 4 at half.  Karp was impressive as well as he was able to impose his will down low.

Outside of those two, you could also add Trinity's Donald Jorden and Tufts' Luke Rogers to the list.

I didn't see Trinity play last year but saw Tufts a few times and would agree on Rogers. I saw him play in HS and he looked much improved to me, I think he has a lot of potential.

While both teams lose their starting centers, Midd can insert a proven center in Sobel ready to replace (and likely add more to the offense) McCord while Amherst doesn't have a proven replacement for Big Joe and CJ bachman (incoming 6'10'' freshman could be huge for them).

I only saw them play a handful of times last year but couldn't Sellew be considered a proven replacement as a big man? It appears to me he is probably more of a stretch 4 but outside of Williams (Karpowicz) and now maybe Middlebury (Sobel), how many NESCAC teams feature a true post 5?

Middlebury looks loaded to me if this transfer Eastman is a real player.

amh63, I am not a NESCAC graduate nor a fan of any particular program, I have younger kids who play and through following HS/AAU hoops in the Boston area, I have come to know some friends with sons and daughters playing NESCAC hoops at various schools. I went to the NESCAC semis a couple of years ago at Tufts and since then have been following more closely.

Nice pick-up for Tufts, just won the "Shot for Life" competition in MA.
