Vassar ticks all of the boxes for NESCAC membership and would be a great way to smooth out scheduling.  They seem to be a perfect fit.

You nailed it. Great point. THEY DONT WANT TO!!!!!!

NESCAC football players already have so much on their plates  than postseason football that, in many cases, the end of season brings relief in terms of freed up time to accomplish accomplish more important, career and life shaping tasks.  If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't play at a NESCAC school.

Charlie, the whole point behind the founding of NESCAC is to guard against the overemphasis of football and to keep it in in its appropriate place in the grand scheme of things.  That ain't gonna change..

Quicksilver-

Ive been a Bates guy since 1974. I've watched almost every move made in major sports at Bates, Bowdoin and Colby starting at that time. What I didn't know about prior years I researched vigorously. I haven't missed much.

We had no hockey team at Bates and the team at Colby wasn't very good. We would drive 25 minutes from Lewiston down east to Bowdoin to watch that great hockey program. The  games and the atmosphere were electric in that arena. As Bates guys we typically rooted against them but at the end of it all I think we ironically rooted for those b******s. Watched them play UNH who had 3 future NHL guys and a number of other great teams. It was Bowdoin's shining hour.

Can't imagine Bowdoin not perpetuating the great thing they had with that hockey program. It was the only Bowdoin mens sport I can remember which was on the vaunted standard of excellence which Bowdoin so flaunts academically.
Very well said,Lumber, you captured this golden age of Bowdoin sports beautifully. The hockey program received total support from every segment of the college community. Students would sneak on campus to attend holiday tournaments, stowing away in the dorms. Electric times!

Where else could you see Ogie Oglethorpe play in person before he became famous? Ned Dowd starred at Bowdoin before he and his sister, Nancy created Slap Shot based on Ned's subsequent career in minor league hockey. Ned appropriately became Ogie.

The differences between Rose and former president  Barry Mills are stark as Mills was a champion of all Bowdoin sports. That may not have helped with football, but the competitiveness was at a much higher level. Bowdoin sports are pathetic, a real embarrassment to the College

Tim Ryan was over his head from Day 1 as Bowdoin AD. He was the chosen lap dog hire by former Dean Tim Foster and has been a puppet ever since replacing Jeff Ward, who dared to stand up for his beliefs. Bowdoin sports have deteriorated under Ryan.

Except in the case of JB Wells at Bowdoin which I will never figure out.

Trinity has to have the #1 rank going in - a heavy favorite to win the regular season & the playoffs. Amherst will be very strong, they always are. Bates should be very good again this year. Williams is way down, probably as low as they have been in 20 years. Base on what I saw last year, nobody else is likely to step out of the pack. It looks like a fairly weak league (compared to most of the last 10 years) again this year.

okay now that the season is done can we now talk about playoffs. While I totally get NESCAC wont have it. I still do not understand why the NESCAC champion cannot opt to enter the D3 playoff tournament. I still think that NESCAC should have a an internal playoff championship but we know that wont happen. But Williams if chosen should be allowed to enter tournament.
Charlie,
Please stop. If you were a true fan of NESCAC, why would you want to see your representative play  with the deck stacked against them having to deal with restrictions that no other D3 has to face?  I have no doubt that the quality of athletes could compete and succeed, but NESCAC would face too many restrictive hurdles.

Charlie, stick to the realistic and maybe people will pay heed to your posts.

Biddy may have taken care of that.

Amherst-Williams can be closer than expected and Williams won't run up score like Trinity. Won't be as bad as you think.

Reality check here...Purple Cows defense shut out Wes and only allowed Hartford State to score 3 points...both of those offense are light years better than Lord Jeffrey's...yes, Lord Jeffrey could get lucky and score a TD, but we don't see it....

If "closer than expected" means it is a ONLY a 28 point win for the Ephs, than yes, it COULD BE closer than we expect...

Friends, these are two programs going opposite directions looking at the forest through the trees...
I believe I was right, Nescacman despite your smug response. A 5 point game qualifies as  close one. Must be a blow finding out that you're not all knowing.

I think the Eph fans on the board should purchase a copy of this for all of the rest of us:

https://today.williams.edu/books/why-i-never-left-williams-college/

We already have ours....if Spring or nescac1 do buy them for the board, can they reimburse us the $25 we spent? Please?
We had to put up with Farley when he was coaching. Sure don't want to read about it.

Probably not at Bowdoin anytime soon as Coach Hammer is being sued by one from his Allegheny days.
