St Joe's Maine has the inside track to the AQ at the moment with their victory at Emmanuel yesterday.

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda only had an 8 pt, 9 rebound performance yesterday as Maddie McLaughlin led all Saints with 15 pts off the bench.

For the Monks, Kelsi McNamara is proving why she is the top player in GNAC-- 23 pts, 5 rebs, 3 assists.  Julia Champagne also had a double-double for the Monks yesterday.

Monks dominated on the glass, 53-32.

It looks like Monks's Coach Mike McDevitt gets his interview with 'D-Mac' on February in the Hoopsville Marathon, if not sooner.

The next remaining storyline in GNAC, other than predicting when Emmanuel coach Andy Yosinoff gets his 800th career coaching win, is when Regis (MA) finally drops a regular season conference game.  The Pride last lost a regular season conference game in the 2010-11 season, when they were members of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  Regis never lost an NECC regular season game, and only dropped 1 NECC tournament game to Daniel Webster in 2012.

The Pride started GNAC play with a win at Albertus Magnus yesterday to extend their conference regular season winning streak over the 3 leagues combined to 113 games.  Regis is idle this week before they play Anna Maria on December 11.

I believe that Regis will finally drop a league game in mid to late January.  They play Johnson and Wales on Jan. 18, and Suffolk on Jan. 20

The Pride play at St. Joe's Maine on Feb. 1, and they host Emmanuel on Feb. 13.

St Joe's Maine defeated Rivier by 85 pts today, 102-17, in GNAC play.   Last year, River handed the Monks their only conference loss of the season.  Rivier lost by 17 pts in the meeting in Maine and defeated the Monks by 5 pts in the rematch in Nashua, NH.  This year, the Raiders don't seem to even have a working basketball team, as they are 0-6 with the loss, 0-2 in GNAC, and losing by at least 60 pts in both GNAC contests played so far.

Over at Emmanuel, Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda is having a good week.  She led the Saints in scoring all week with 2 20 pt performances against Rhode Island College and Pine Manor followed by a 23 pt game at Simmons today.  The 23 pt game is a career best for her, and she also had a double-double in that game with 10 rebounds.

Saints are now 4-4, 1-1 in GNAC, but have to play at Tufts on Monday before they break for finals and the holidays.

St Joe's Maine is now off for final exams and the holiday break.  They host Husson on December 31.

Things of note:

1.). This semester, 2 GNAC teams set records for largest margin of victory in a game in their program's history:

A.). Emmanuel won by 82 over Yeshiva in the Saints's home opener, 100-18, on November 18.

B.) St Joe's Maine won by 85 over Rivier yesterday, 102-17.

2.). Kelsi McNamara scored her 1,000th career point for the Monks in their win over Rivier yesterday.  She reaches the milestone in her junior year.

Live video streaming has just been added for this weekend's Emmanuel games at Whittier College in California.

Another special event coming up:

On Friday, January 5, 2018, Johnson and Wales will take on Brown of d1's Ivy League.

Game will tip at Noon Eastern at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Brown is calling this game their "Education Day" game, and is inviting local school kids to watch the game.

Brown is off to a 10-1 start, and has beaten 3 Patriot League teams this season (BU, Holy Cross, and Colgate)

Brown is coached by Boston College Hall-of-Famer Sarah Behn, who got her college coaching start at MASCAC's Framingham State.

Brown also has a Rhode Island College alum on the coaching staff.

I just watched the live video stream of Emmanuel prevailing over Dickinson, 83-58, to finish 1-1 on their California swing.

The Saints resume GNAC play on January 11, 2018 when they host Mount Ida.

Emmanuel coach Andy Yosinoff is now 7 wins away from 800.

Whittier has a nice, if old, bandbox gym with 2 levels in the building.  They have an official NCAA basketball sign of "Fear the Poet" on one of the walls of the gym, and a part of the wooden bleachers is painted as the "Poet Pit", which must be the designated student section.

St Joe's Maine beat Husson today with a 3 point barrage, 80-63.

Hannah Marks led the Monks with 30 pts, while Kelsi McNamara had 8 assists for the Monks.

Husson is not as strong as they were last year.  Like Dickinson, Husson's only wins this season are in conference play.

GNAC Rookie of the Week-- Franchesca Hammond, Anna Marissa

I just bought a 1 day video pass to the Ivy League Network to see Johnson and Wales take on Brown.

Brown comes in at 11-1, receiving votes in the AP d1 Top 25, and is ranked #24 in the Collegeinsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

I don't see an upset today-- Brown is too good a team.  It's not going to be a Trine-type upset over Fort Wayne, like what happened last season.

In this first meeting ever between Johnson and Wales against Brown, the big question is going to be how long the Wildcats can stay in this one before Brown pulls away with the expected 12th win of the season.

Great game for the local elementary and middle school kids to watch, though, as part of Brown's Education Day today.  Tip is at Noon Eastern.

Excellent use of the 1st quarter media timeout by coach Kim Dweck of JWU.  She called it early with Brown up 16-4 with 5:37 left in the quarter.  At the end of the 1st quarter, Brown leads 20-18, over Johnson and Wales.

deiscanton

After Johnson and Wales tied the game at 20-20 with 9:30 left in the first half, Brown went on a 34-12 run to end the half.

Brown leads JWU at halftime, 54-32.

Brown has a great webcast of the game-- worth the money that I paid to watch it so far.

For Johnson and Wales--

Raquel Pederzani had 10 pts on 2-6, 1-2 from 3 pt land, 5-5 from the charity stripe.  She also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Kristen Habbel had 4 assists to lead JWU in that category.

For Brown--

Erika Steeves has scored 26 pts on 10-13 from the field, 6-8 from 3 pt land.  She also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Janie White has scored 10 pts on 4-10 from the field, 2-2 from the FT line.  She also has 6 rebounds.

Megan Reilly has 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Brown defeated Johnson and Wales today, 100-79.

I was glad that I chose to pay the $9.95 fee to the Ivy League Network for a 1 day Brown school pass to watch the stream from home, rather than paying for a game ticket and a commuter rail round trip to Providence in the cold weather to watch this one in person.

The Education Day activities were cancelled due to school being called off today due to the weather-- therefore, there were no elementary or middle school kids in the Providence area at the game.  Thanks to the JWU Wildcats for not cancelling this game entirely-- the game was an entertaining one to watch from home.

Brown goes into Ivy League play at 12-1.

Johnson and Wales drops to 6-5.  This game counts for both teams, so it is a secondary criteria game for the Wildcats, and the game is not reflected in Brown's RPI rankings.  (JWU is not a Division 1 team.)

Johnson and Wales finishes non-league play at 4-5.  The Wildcats go into GNAC play the rest of the way on Tuesday at St Joe's Maine.
