Former ASC player and coach Scott Walden takes another large step in his coaching journey, WOW on him.

Scotty Walden on the move again, this time to be the full time coach at Austin Peay. Crazy thing, he didn't even coach his last game as the Interim Head Coach at Southern Miss as he was out with COVID so Southern Miss will now be on its 3rd HC this season!

Coach Pete made his appearance on UMHB's Coaches Corner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hl4cSx3JpQ

Not a lot of details but did mention Tommy Bowden as the #1 QB currently and later went on to say that amongst others he was taking on more of a leadership role as well.

Young guys are always going to make more mistakes than veterans but a sophomore QB that played some as a freshmen and then got this extended time to practice could be very beneficial to the Cru over the next few years.

Good idea. I'll peek in from time to time. Mount Union and UMHB have had some good games against each other. Be fun to see how you guys are doing.

Saw a story about how an Alabama HS team scored 10 points in the final 18 seconds to win the state title and my mind immediately went back to 2018 when UMHB almost lost a 10 point lead with 2 minutes left to St. Johns.

Up 21-11 with less than 2 minutes UMHB attempts to punt from their own 14 only to have it blocked. St. Johns scores on the next play to make it 21-18 and then recovers the onside kick. Big first down pass and the Johnnies are already in field goal range but they go for the end zone on the next play, ball hits the receiver in the hands but he can't handle it and Jefferson Fritz snags it out of the air.

You can see how close we were to most likely losing a great game in the 3rd round a video done by St. Johns https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL5byP0ylW8

Down goes a UMHB record. Two UNC RB's combined for 544 rushing yards today against Miami, going over the 523 yards that Jarvis Thrasher and Quincy Daniels had rushed for back in 2007 which was an All NCAA records for rushing yards by a duo of RB's.

HPU coach steps down

https://hpusports.com/news/2020/12/21/football-braxton-harris-steps-down-at-hpu.aspx

https://www.brownwoodnews.com/2020/12/21/hpu-head-football-coach-braxton-harris-steps-down/

This article says he is leaving for an assistant job at an unnamed D1 program so we could assume the whole staff is a possible replacement or an outsider, anxious to see where Braxton ends up at.

I heard he applied for the Millsaps College job last year so it appears he was wanting out of HPU for a while.

Ron Boerger

Last year's 5-5 the best record for HPU since 2006 according to that Brownwood News story (and confirmed here) - that's rough.

It is a shame because even the year before when they went 1-9 they did appear to be better than in previous years, good luck to Coach Harris though.

With only 45 days until their first spring game, it will be intriguing if they name someone on the current staff as full time coach, interim coach or get someone from the outside, of course punting the entire spring schedule is an option I guess.

Blake Jackson signs with Winnipeg: https://truetothecru.com/2020/12/23/blake-jackson-signed-by-the-winnipeg-blue-bombers-of-the-canadian-football-league/

Not sure what a negotiation list is in the CFL but apparently Blake has been on the Blue Bombers list since at least September. The team did a sniper on all 10 of theirs and the note on Blake seems to give him some bonus points for being a prior QB. Good luck to Blake, I hope he gets a true chance to play a season as a WR, seems like he has been trying and keeps getting a chance only for something to fall through.

Blake Jackson, WR/QB, Mary Hardin-Baylor

McManus: "He was a quarterback in school. We saw him there and then he came to one of our workouts in Austin, Texas and was doing a bit of work at receiver and quarterback. He got a look in Cleveland as a receiver, where Ted (Goveia) saw him and Ted liked him. He was on another team's neg list and when they took him off, we put him on ours. We see him as a receiver, but one with quarterback capabilities and that could be important if you're only allowed two quarterbacks on the dress-day roster."
