Because the size of the board has caused the site to have problems in recent weeks, I've started trimming posts, including the history of this board. However, I want to make sure people it's open for 2008-09. I've included the final standings from last season.

Thanks Pat!  Is there anything we should be doing to help keep the size down?

No, not really. Separating boards like pick 'ems and score updates will make it easier to maintain, though.

It's time to get your thinking caps on (or maybe blinders would work better) and get ready for the 2009 edition of the MIAA Pick 'Em contest.  Prior to me publishing the rules for this year, I'm interested to hear arguments for and against using confidence points this year.

All of your input will be considered, and I will ultimately make a decision and have the rules posted by January 1.

FDF:  Please put me down in favor of using the confidence points.  Reviewing the numbers from last years contest it is obvious that strenght of conviction is a factor,  as is simply guessing right.
Thanks in advance for doing the pick em again this year.  Your hard work is appreciated. :)

i think confidence  points is a lot better  lets try it and thank you for doing such a good job keep it rolling
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

Civic Minded

Although I believe I would have been tied for first place w/o confidence points last year, I too feel that it adds a nice element to the prognosication...I say go for it.

OK, so here are the rules for the 2009 version of the MIAA Pick 'Em contest.

- Prior to the beginning of the first game on any given day, pick the winner of each game.  You must also indicate confidence points 1 through 4.  If you picked the winning team, you will be awarded the number of confidence points you put on that game (See example below).

- Any late picks will be counted as incorrect, and no points will be awarded.

- I will post a weekly update on the standings.

- The ultimate winner to be decided by point total.  Any ties in point total will be broken by pick percentage.  If a tie still exists, the winner will be chosen randomly out of a jar that's been on Funk and Wagnels porch since noon today - just kidding.

- Any disputes may be taken up with the commissioner (that's me) and I will make a final and fair ruling (I promise).

Pick Em example:

Let's say I used the picks below (the team I picked to win is bolded) and the number is my confidence points:

Team A vs Team B - 2
Team C vs Team D - 4
Team E vs Team F - 3
Team G vs Team H - 1

If the winning teams are B, D, F, and H, I would have gone 3-1 and have accrued 7 points

Team B is the best team in the history of D3.

So I assume we want 4 to be on the game about which we are most confident, and 1 for the game about which we are least confident.

You have the games listed with confidence points, but have not indicated which team you think will win.  Please repost with the winners indicated.
