Someone should remind the Pointers' public address announcer that he's not a cheerleader.  PA announcers are neutral narrators of the game.

I prefer over the top announcers but if the same guy does basketball I know where you're coming from. I remember when he called Lou Hurd "Iceman"  after he hit a big 3 and generally had a very Randy "Macho Man" Savage motiff. Personally I love it but again I can see where it would irk some people.

Or maybe its someone completely different.

Looks like one of UWO's best LB's is out this week according to their 2-deep roster...being replaced by a 5'6" 185lb guy. I thought I was small at 5'8" 200...

Yikes... I"m guessing he is quick and very tough.

Is it Stefaniak? I heard he hurt his back.

I know I am late on this but after watching the UWP UWW game on DVR, WIWA is a true statement.

The WARHAWKS women scrimmaged Marquette.  Despite it being a mismatch we made a good showing of ourselves.  The game was within 8 points with 4 1/2 minutes remaining.  Regrettably that was the last points we would score as the Golden Eagles 44-27 point advantage in the paint (size) and 27-7 advantage off the bench (depth) was too much to overcome.   The final was 78-59.  I'm told that Mary Merg and Katie Burton played exceptionally well.

Good for WIAC from an exposure stand point. Not so good for other teams looking to knock of the 'hawks. We'll see how UWSP does against UW on thursday.

Can someone from Oshkosh tell me what UW-UO is suppose to mean?  Prior to the game they showed a recruiting video and the students in it kept chanting UW-UO.  Did they add a word to their name that I don't know about?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUN4aorM8nw

I assume that's the video you're talking about. They are just fully saying double-u slowly. You-double-you-oh if you will. Hope that clears up any confusion.

I think the difference in this game came down to the DBs. Offensively the teams were very similar and both have strong front 7s but UWW clearly had the advantage in the defensive backfield. UWO's inability to sustain drives fatigued its D.

Question for any and all: Would your prefer your team to finish 2nd in the WIAC but make the playoffs or tie for the title but miss out on the playoffs?

oh the comparing of records against common opponents comes up once again. Most of you are former players and should remember different teams match up against others based on the offensive and defensive schemes ran. Comparing records against common opponents is usually useless...but let's compare the same 2012 common oppoents scores anyway  8-)

Similar to this season, UWW fared better against Stout that Oshkosh did.
Similar to this season, both beat UWLC handidly.

2012
UWO vs UWLC 41-7, UWW beat them 24-0
UWO vs UWS 27-18, UWW beat them 41-7
UWO beat UWW 28-13

2013
UWO vs UWLC 30-6, UWW beat them 47-3
UWO vs UWS 28-26, UWW beat them 55-13

Similar to last season, UWO beats UWW 28-24

Not bad, not bad...I suppose that would be true if all things were equal between 2012 and 2013, but we know they're not. Whitewater's offense couldn't be more different than last season. Whitewater's passing offense was dead last a season ago in the WIAC....now they're third.

Their total offense went from 126th in the country to 40th. Obviously that's only through 6 games, but the improvement is noticeable.

Well done oshfb.
My memory only goes back to halftime of the UWW-UWO game 2012- apparently I've blocked out the pain of the first half.  From that point on, UWW beat UWO 13-7. I'm figuring the team that showed up in the second half, which included Matt Behrendt at the helm, is the team to really compare.

Tell me about the UWO D line- are they as dominant as it seems?

UWO outplayed UWW in the first half in 2011 as well as they were up 17-10...though we all remember UWW made the comeback with a late FG to prevail 20-17.

BleedPurple, sorry work has me busy and HS football playoffs have begun (I'm an assistant coach). But I made sure to get in my plug!  ;D

02 Warhawk, I don't know too much about the D-Line. I know that the NT Smith is likely one of the strongest players in the conference. I know that DE Dexter Charles is a beast at 6-7" 265lbs. He's the younger brother of former Badger WR Darrin Charles.

Should be a great game regardless of the outcome!

I am really looking forward to this game. I too have UWO snatching the victory. The D-Line is pretty darn good Osh mentioned the two biggest factors in that. Charles is fun to watch for sure. There was some talk earlier this week about who had the chip on their shoulder and after being passed up in the polls this week and this game being in Oshkosh I'd say the "intangibles" category is about even. I'd say the offenses are about even. Defense goes to UWW. Coaching is even. So I think this game comes down to special teams and I have confidence in Nate Ray to win it. I'll say 24-21 Oshkosh.

Stevens Point announces their recruiting class, all players have been mentioned on this website already but you can read a little bit about their backgrounds.

So is a D-2 transfer eligible immediately?

yup

Quick question for those who follow UW-O. What's up with Myhra?  I would have expected more than a 3.7 ypc out of him. banged up? OL issues? It was a bit eye opening that UW-O averaged only 2.9 ypc against Stout when North Central gained 5.1 per carry against them and Dakota Wesleyan averaged 6.1 ypc against them.  Something going on up there?

Teams forcing Olla to beat them (which he is) by stacking the line for Myhra? Myhra had 32 carries Saturday, so I don't think he's banged up.

Good question Bleed...I haven't been able to watch a game so am stuck listening to live streaming audio. I'd venture a guess similar to 02 Warhawk.

Well, the good news for the Titans is that if that's what teams are doing, forcing Olla to beat them...he's doing it because they are undefeated!

Oshkosh certainly did not force feed Myhra like Stout thought they would.  It seems to me they could have pounded away with him more than they did.  However, as you mentioned, the plan of "Making Olla beat you" may not be a good plan either because he looked really good to me.  Managed the game well and made very good decisions from the pocket.

I am seeing most of what you all are seeing. So far teams have forced the Titans to beat them with the pass. They've done that so far so we'll see if there is a change in opposing strategy.

WIAC FOOTBALL TO BE TELEVISED "LIVE" ON FOX SPORTS

Madison, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced today that an agreement has been reached with FOX Sports to broadcast three upcoming WIAC football games "live" on both FOX Sports Wisconsin and FOX Sports North.

The three games will feature two appearances each by UW-Platteville, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater.  The match-ups, dates and airtimes are as follows:

•        UW-Stout @ UW-Whitewater on October 12 (2:30 p.m.)

•        UW-Stout @ UW-Platteville on October 26 (2:30 p.m.)

•        UW-Platteville @ UW-Whitewater on November 2 (1:00 p.m.)

The games will be carried across the state of Wisconsin on FOX Sports Wisconsin as well as across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa on the FOX Sports North PLUS channel.

To my knowledge, this has to be the first live televised (non Stagg Bowl) game for a WIAC team. Outside of school's city limits at least.

UWO @ UWW was live on Time Warner Cable sports and charter extra 87 last season

Some poor composure by the Titans defense today with numerous personal foul penalties throughout the 2nd half. Nice late INT to seal the victory with less than a minute to play.

Offense puts up 465 yards to keep the game in hand. Nick Olla (QB) went 28/39 for 328 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs.

Congratulations to the Titans on their victory this afternoon. It sounds like a good game between two evenly matched teams.

Well Stout did prove that it can play with one of the "Big Three" today on our turf.  Now we will see if we can stay with the "Big Two" on their turf as we play at WW and Platteville in the next 3 weeks.    A very entertaining game today.   Looked like a blowout early at 21-0 but a combination of outstanding Stout playmaking on offense and some very undisciplined Osh play (5 or 6 personal fouls and 16 penalities) made for a very exciting finish.  Stout had the ball and was driving into fg territory when a 2nd and 5 sideline pass was jumped for an interception which sealed the deal.  Oshkosh, I think, is a very outstanding team that did not play very smart today.  Stout is clearly better than last year.  Clayt was very disappointed after the game and made the point that he just wanted so badly for his kids to experience some success against one of the big guys.  Look forward to seeing Gary, BW, and the WW guys next week.  Gary, I will be doing the game with my HS radio partner as Jason has a birthday this week and is choosing to celebrate elsewhere.

I think part of why it was so close is the target is on UWO's back for the whole season. Stout players were jacked up, rightfully so, after some key plays. The Titans are going to have to get used to taking a team's best shot week in and week out.

And, tell me if I am wrong, if Platteville does win, it is an in-Region, non-Conference win.  Correct?  I hear those help at the end of the season.

WarhawkDad

Correct. It will help their Regional Rankings come playoff time.

For sure. Admittedly I don't know when this game was scheduled but historically speaking its not as if UWP has been nearly this good for at least the 5 years prior to last season.

Also I'd take WIAC teams scheduling weaker teams over Non-conference games against WIAC opponents 10 times out of 10.

The Golden Rail is near the end of town. Good place for some spirits.
