108 Stitches

This series is so important for both programs as it gives them highly competitive contests, regardless of the outcome, so they can get ready for their league (and Regional) games. I was told that they are set up for a home/away like TU does with Chapman so I guess MU will come to SA next year.  The starter for TU on Sunday has been clocked up to 95, (prob not right now) and can usually throw it by D3 hitters.... but not Millsaps!

BatDoughnut

The third game starter for TU was throwing it past Millsaps hitters early, but his control was not good. Millsaps worked a lot of 3-2 counts along the way. I believe he threw 30+ pitches in the first inning alone. By the middle innings, 92 had become 85-88, and there didn't seem to be a lot of movement. The first game pitcher for TU was lights out, the only thing that slowed him down was Millsaps batters stepping out on him breaking his rhythm.

Congrats to 2B Justin Genter (Rhodes) and SP Blake Stevens (BSC) to being named to the D3baseball.com team of the week!

Rhodes defeats visiting Wartburg today 4-3.

Rhodes again struggled offensively, but were able to take advantage of 4 Wartburg errors. The Lynx were out hit 5-4. The Lynx were primed to break the game open in the 6th, but after scoring one run, shot themselves in the foot with a double-play pop-up on an attempted safety squeeze with runners on the corners to end the inning. In the top of the 7th, Rhodes caught a break when Wartburg had runners of first and second with no outs, but had a batted ball hit a base-runner, and the Lynx escaped the inning unharmed.

Rhodes received a strong performance from SP Adam Putnam who gave up 2 runs over 6 innings, striking out 7 and giving up 3 hits. RP Max Halasz got the 7 out save, allowing no hits and striking out 3.

Rhodes continues play at home with a double-header tomorrow against Wash U.

From the Rhodes website since I didn't get a chance to watch the second game. I did watch the first, and it might be Glauben's best outing of his career so far. extremely dominant on sunday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes baseball completed the sweep of Washington University in St. Louis in a double header on Sunday, 2-1 and 6-3.

The wins move the Lynx to 7-2 on the season while the Bears fall to 1-2 to kick off their year.

The Lynx saw their first run score late in the game when Strother White hit a single out to right field, moving Walker McWherter to third and sending Justin Genter home for the Lynx' first run in the sixth inning.

The Lynx scored their second run when Genter hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Ryan Olive to score, giving Rhodes a 2-0 lead against the Bears heading into the seventh. The Bears posted their lone run in the eighth inning, and the Lynx held on for the 2-1 victory.

Blake Glauben was on the mound for the Lynx in the first game, pitching eight innings. Glauben gave up only four hits to one run while striking out six batters. The win gives Glauben a 3-0 start to the season. Max Halasz was called out of the bullpen for the final inning, and gave up one hit, earning his first save of the season.

In the second contest the Lynx battled to a 6-3 victory, earning a win for Daniel Morris, who began the game on the rubber for Rhodes. In his five innings a work, Morris threw three strike outs while giving up five hits.

Rhodes got on the board in the first inning, recovering after a Bears run opened the game with a Max Golembo score to even up the score 1-1 after a Strother White sacrifice fly scored Bill Munson. The Lynx tacked on another four runs in the fourth inning, to take a 5-1 lead.

The Bears rally in the eighth inning fell short, as they only managed to score two more runs. The Lynx notched their final run in the eighth inning when a Ryan Olive single sent Andrew Wallis home to make the final count, 6-3. Rhodes posted 17 hits on the day, while holding Wash U. to only 13 in the double header.

missed the games last weekend, but Hendrix took 2 of 3 from Rhodes.

Rhodes wins the mid-week game against local Victory University, and sweeps the double header today against Oglethorpe. For the first time all season, Rhodes looked dominant and played to what is their potential. Combined score of the two games was 17-2, outhit Oglethorpe 27-4, and committed only 3 errors on the day.

SP Blake Glauben has another strong outing, going 7 innings, striking out seven, and giving up one hit. In game 2, SP Daniel Morris goes six innings, allowing only two hits and one run.

Rhodes is now 10-4 on the year, 3-2 in SAA play

Rhodes completes the sweep on Oglethorpe, winning 2-0. Strong performance by the pitching staff, with reliever Max Halasz picking up another win. Pat Kilkenny had a solo homer for the Lynx.

I'll be stopping by the Birmingham-Southern/Covenant this game this afternoon as well, since one of my friend's little brother is scheduled to pitch for Covenant

Rhodes finishes up their spring break trip with a record of 4-1, improving to 15-5 on the year. The warm weather warmed up the Rhodes bats, which finally starting putting up big runs. The only loss of the trip came in an all-around ugly game to Franklin and Marshall.

More impressively, Rhodes picks up a 10-5 win against #23 Bridgewater, and wallops #3 Southern Maine 8-1 while getting another gem of a game from SP Blake Glauben, who throws a complete game, giving up 5 hits and 1 unearned run. Glauben improves to 3-1 on the year, dropping his ERA to 1.75.

Rhodes has the rest of the week off until they travel to Centre for another weekend of SAA play.

Rhodes' success over spring break lands them at #25 in the latest poll, with conference foe BSC at #15.

So... Hendrix is the real deal.  What a sweep!  Radack continues to impress.  They are always a gritty team that really turns it on come playoff time.

The end to this SAA year is shaping up to be very interesting.  Rhodes has three TOUGH weekends coming up with Berry, Millsaps and BSC.  Millsaps record may not show it, but they've played tight games all year and are never to be taken lightly at their band box of a field.  If the weather warms up and that Jackson breeze starts blowing, the ball really launches out of that place.

That being said, Rhodes is having a fantastic year.  Can't wait to see if their stellar pitching can continue against some tougher lineups.  Need to get that offense turning again though.  It's feast or famine from the looks of the box scores, but then again that's about the status quo for my Lynx cats.

D3 baseball has been great this year - seems like more parity than ever.  At least in the teams I follow!

LynxCat39

Millsap's record isn't where it normally is at this point in the year, but playing in Jackson is never easy. This weekend will be the barometer of Rhodes' pitching staff for the rest of the season.

LynxCat39

After losing 2 of 3 close games at Millsaps this weekend, Rhodes only drops one spot to #20 in the latest rankings. BSC climbs four sports to #11. Looks like the final weekend of regular season play with BSC playing at Rhodes might be what determines the #1 seed in conference tournament play.

If you look at the other teams around Rhodes in the previous poll, the voters may have respected taking one out of 3 from a respected Millsaps squad in Jackson.  The SAA is a very good baseball league, especially its upper level teams.  Also, there was not much seen in the teams who received votes to move someone above Rhodes.
