The Third Division

Quote from: doolittledog on February 21, 2024, 05:40:49 PMDubuque hired Ryan Maiuri as head coach.  He was the offensive coordinator at Central.  UD have now hired Mitchell Shepherd as the defensive coordinator.  I believe he was the DC at Central.  Former DC at Dubuque, Rob Huberty is stil at UD and is now shown as the recruiting coordinator and D-Line coach.  Keanon Cooper is now the defensive backs coach.  I believe he was the co-defensive coordinator at Luther.  Theo Hopkins, who was the defensive backs coach at UD is now the defensive coordinator at Knox College.

Sounds like a lot of turnover for Central. Did Dubuque just offer higher salaries? Is Ryan Maiuri too good to not work with? Is Dubuque gonna have their way now that they have Central's coaches?

Crying over here! Ryan Mauri is a huge get for UD! I knew it was only a matter of time before he would be a head coach. Now the questions would be was Central's 2021 offense so good because of Mauri or did Blaine Hawkins make him look good or was it a once in a lifetime combo? We certainly had the best plays ever that year, but we had the QB who could do whatever was drawn up too. They moved him from OC to assistant head coach probably in an effort to keep him.

Really sorry to see him go. Good hire UD. First Coe steals Central coaches, now UD. I guess it is flattering, but can't you steal from Wartburg?  :D

like the hire, let's go win some championships!

A few other schedule notes:

Looks like Central will be fulfilling its second year of the home and home with Illinois Wesleyan and then will be heading out to California to play Califonia Lutheran. Neither team had the best season last year but should still be decent tune-up games for their week 3 date with Wartburg.

While not released yet I was told that Loras actually had a 3-year deal with Benedictine and will be playing the Eagles in Lisle this season. They will then have Hope at home who was regionally ranked last year and just outside of the playoff bubble.

Welp my insider information was wrong about the locations of the two nonconference games and the order. I suppose this means that I am not as plugged in as I thought I was! Personally, as a Duhawk fan I think that the schedule is favorable in that there are no multiple-game stretches of heavyweights back-to-back. Is this the year the Duhawks break out of the perennial middle tier of the conference? This alum is in wait and see mode...

You don't say.  This might be the thing that gets me to finally make the drive out to Thousand Oaks.

Not the most exciting news but I was told the other day that Mani Brown while officially being in the portal is still enrolled and taking classes at Loras this spring. Not sure what that exactly means for his future, he only has one year of eligibility left, but it does feel odd he hasn't found a landing spot at a bigger program yet. I am fairly certain he will not be wearing the purple and gold next year, but if I was running a larger program I'm not sure how I would feel about bringing in a player who only has one year of eligibility left and not having him there for spring practice. Something to keep an eye on...

Looks like the a couple more schedules were released (just waiting on BV):

Luther: https://luthernorse.com/sports/football/schedule
Simpson: https://www.simpsonathletics.com/sports/fball/2024-25/schedule

If I'm being honest not much to say about these two. Hopefully, these two teams can pull out some noncon wins and start progressing upward to pull up the bottom of the league in terms of perceived strength.

While the Beavers have not given us a football schedule yet, they did announce a campaign to add to their athletic facilities.
