Well, if all kids do social media then I guess the only explanation for the overwhelming number of UST announcements is that they are recruiting so many students. SJU will recruit fewer students than starting seniors who graduate and the rest of the MIAC will need to shut down football. Seems reasonable enough to me.

I most certainly wouldn't think that the large number of social broadcasters was a reflection on the type of students UST recruits. That idea is preposterous.

I too find it funny with D3 players announcing their commitment to play in January.  ----->  Even if you make your $200 deposit there isn't anything holding you to going to that school.  You aren't really apart of the school until you pay that initial deposit (and others) and then show up for fall camp in August.
Very true. Until then you are as they say in Texas "All hat,no cattle"
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Like we say in South Dakota: "They would say something like that in Texas."
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I'm sure SJU has recruited plenty of new players. You're just not hearing much from them on social media because: 1) the rural areas where many recruits live have limited Internet access; 2) even in those areas that do have access, some recruits have been told since birth that technology is an instrument of the devil; 3) the few recruits who embrace technology are likely to have just recently mastered the milking parlor. The Internet is still a bit scary and magical; and 4) the recruits from Sterns County—probably half the recruiting class—haven't spent much time "interacting" with those outside their families. As a result, social media seems like an extravagant waste of time.

Here's some good news:  There will still be a Pietruszewski on the St. John's football team next season.

Wow. What a GLORRREEEE BOY announcing that in the SC Times. SMH.
Isn't it great? The St. Cloud Times,a regional newspaper, finds this interesting enough to print. The type of exposure only Concordia Moorhead can dream of as an MIAC school. The Cobbers fight for headlines with NDSU being the big dogs on the prairie but still find decent coverage. The rest of the MIAC would gladly take this coverage. SJU is fortunate that St. Cloud State is a hockey & basketball school. Thanks Frank for making coverage of all things SJU a priority!  8-)

Rev, you really do need to spend some time in Stearns County,it may surprise you. The approximate 3,500 active farms are the most of any county in Minnesota. I'd be glad to give you a tour and you may find it refreshing. Robotic milking machines cost approximately $250,000 each & can handle approximately 50 cows, the type of farmer who find these efficient have 200-500 cows,do the math. Then there are the $300,000 combines and $180,000 tractors. Farmers need to be technically advanced to be successful. The family members & friends I have in the farming community know how to manage risks using commodity hedges and run small businesses that generate millions of dollars each year and keep the neighboring communities and churches financially viable as their population base erode. The succesful farmer of today is not the hick you remember for watching reruns of Green Acres  ;)

F me.

A car sped through Melbourne just an hour ago.  Plowed through crowds and jumped onto sidewalks to hit more pedestrians.  Police have confirmed one dead and at least 20 wounded.  They have the guy.  Press conference in 15 minutes where we find out more.

Luckily, my family and I are in holidays in Bali.  All of my friends bar one have checked in and are ok.

EDIT:  Well, it looks like 3 are dead and 20 are in hospital.  Some in the hospital are in critical condition and it isn't known if they will survive.  No details of who the guy is has been released yet but he has a history of violence and drug charges, apparently charged with something just last weekend.  But no name or background yet.

EDIT II:  Don't worry about the trip, stanbob.  We'll visit a nice safe place.  Not something crazy like the downtown pedestrian mall.  ::)

EDIT III:  Looks like it was the run of the mill druggie/gangster.  This will stir up a huge controversy in Melbourne.  He had carjacked a woman but she managed to jump from the vehicle later, when under police pursuit, but police called off the pursuit when it went too fast.  It's been a building issue here that police stop chasing if you drive fast enough.  In the name of public safety. Well this event kind of puts a dent in that thinking.

But I must say I'm glad it isn't Islamic terrorism.  That's the last thing that any city needs.

I think the Forum, WDAY, KVRR, KVLY, The Mighty 790 and Jack Michaels' noon show that cuts into Common Man for an hour on 740 the Fan do a pretty solid job covering Concordia. Obviously the Bison rule the day, but the Cobs get just as much airtime, if not more, than Minnesota State Moorhead.

The UST/Cobbers homecoming game was a HUGE talker before and especially after. And SJU is seen as a pretty big rival for Concordia and always a lot of press going into that game.

Glad to see, between Nussmeier and the Pietruszewski transfer, a couple of relatively good sized LB's head to Collegeville.  Not that Carter Hanson didn't get the job done.

I'm glad that Hudl and Twitter were not around when I was in high school.  I don't know if I would have had enough (any?) highlights for a video.  I probably would have ended up at Hamline.  ;D
