Quakers improve to 4-3 with a 79-62 win over Methodist (now 4-2).  GC led 40-26 at the half, but MU cut it to 5 at 52-47.  Inexplicably, MU coach David Smith allowed the Quakers to go on a 19-0 run without calling one of his 6 available timeouts.  At 71-47, it was over.  Four Quakers in double figures:  Thompson 18, Curry 16, Long 16 and Gregory 12.  GC shot 33/59, 6/13 threes and 7/10 FTs and MU 22/55, 5/20 threes and 13/16 FTs.  GC eked out a 31-30 rebounding edge over the Monarchs.

Dreadful shooting night for VWU vs Averett -- 7 of 27 on 3 pointers, 11 of 32 on 2s, 16 of 26 free throws and lose 63-59. The Marlins controlled the boards 51-32 (23 offensive boards) but missed countless put backs. In spite of that they were close to coming back late in the game. So Averett is now 5-0 vs the ODAC. They are a good team and played well against a tough VWU defense. If the Marlins shoot better they probably win.

GC beats Methodist and W&L beats William Peace in non-conference games. In the battle of the RCs, Roanoke beats Randolph. Earlier in the week SU lost at home to Washington College and E&H beat EMU.

This is why VW is not yet in the Top 25.

Roanoke crushed Randolph 72-43 last night. Roanoke held Randolph to 27% shooting for the game. Roanoke needs to get a signature win soon and have that chance on Saturday at VWU.

There's not that many times you see a team have 23 offensive rebounds and lose a game  :o.

And why it will be even harder for them to get there.

Guess you guys were right when you called Averett "The ODAC Killers" lol.... technically, VWU still won. AU head coach David Doino was an assistant and former Marlins star DJ Woodmore is on the staff at Averett. So last night's game was an intersquad scrimmage that doesn't count towards the standings. Marlins still undefeated  8-)

In all seriousness though, the top 25 is cool, but I guarantee you Macedo and the rest of the Marlins are more concerned about getting back to the tournament, especially after the last 2 seasons missing it. So we can debate about why they should/shouldn't get in the top 25, but at 7-1, I like their progress towards getting back in the field more than I have the last 2 seasons as this 7-1 start is their best start since the 2014-2015 season (last tournament appearance).

^^^ From what I saw last night the Marlins should definitely be in the hunt in the ODAC. It's unlikely that they will shoot that poorly again.

It is the time of the season when managing practices and games around finals and soon-to-be holiday breaks can be difficult, especially as most conferences have begun in-conference games while there are still non-conference battles on tap.

On Thursday's edition of Hoopsville, Dave chats with a number of coaches who have had significant starts to the season, but are now managing their seasons. How are the highs and lows massaged and how to keep student-athletes focused not only on their studies (and finals), but also the game.

Results at this time of the year will be a factor come the end of the season.

Dave will also discuss, and update if able, the breaking news out of St. Norbert where the women's basketball team has been suspended ten games due to a number of players' actions.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch the show starting at 7:00 pm ET here: http://bit.ly/2ADCaC3.

After the show is over, you can watch it On Demand or listen to the podcast (info below).

ODAC teams go 4-0 in non-conference games yesterday: Bridgewater over Keystone, Lynchburg over Susquehanna, EMU over Apprentice, and R-MC over Misericordia. The Jackets (now 6-1) didn't play all that great -- quite a few ball handling errors late in the game -- but Misericordia was a good team and a solid challenge. Today's R-MC game vs Juniata (7-0) will tell us a lot more about both teams. Juniata (like VWU last week) has not been getting top 25 votes. After watching them easily beat USCAA/NAIA St. Joseph (VT) yesterday I think the voter's might be right to be leaving them off the ballots. Some voter's have R-MC in their top 25. Hard to say if that's justified -- which I guess is why It's good that 25 people vote in that poll.

The Misericordia team is pretty good.  Not great, but RMC winning it in the way they did is a very good sign.

I didn't get to watch R-MC at Juniata, but the box score makes it pretty clear what happened. The Jackets get 8 more points from the field but out-foul Juniata 26-16 and get outscored 22-3 from the FT line to lose by 11. Hmmm.

Bridgewater, EMU and Lynchburg win the other 3 non-conference games. In two close conference games VWU shoots better than they did against Averett and barely beats Roanoke 58-55. SU beats Randolph 80-78 in OT -- both teams taking and missing a lot of 3s.

A lot of those FTs were in the last 90 seconds, when RMC was trying to come back.  I'm guessing they took 8-10 FTs from intentional fouls at the end.

badcall!

Anyone have any idea what's going on at Bridgewater with regards to their top 2 returning scorers from last year-Saylor and Boggs?  Neither has played a minute this season yet they are both on the roster still.  I saw the JMU exhibition early in the year and they were both shirt and tie on the bench.  Injuries, suspension, discipline issues?  The loss of these 2 players has really been glaring so far for BC.
