Congrats to GC's Slager for his many tackles in a nail biter.
Sarcasm aside, GC's Ryan Slager is set to break the DIII record for career tackles. Impressive accomplishment.

Condolences to all SJU supporters on the passing of a legend. RIP Coach Gagliardi. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

A healthy outcome for all involved.

LA's A-Rod is a hit ... on the gridiron

https://jwcdaily.com/2017/09/05/spotlight-las-a-rod-is-a-hit-on-the-gridiron/

Both the Offensive and Defensive Players of the year for the Chicago North Shore Area are headed to UST! I am sure Wally loves this A-Rod kid. He hits like a freight train!

The often disputed LA -> UST pipeline continues!

My condolences, Art. Prayers your way. A sudden death always casts a perspective spotlight on what really matters in life. I had a similarly unpleasant reminder last week as a client of mine passed suddenly. Hold those close to you tightly. I'm a glass is half full guy, so I'm thankful that his passing was sudden and that he did not suffer. I hope you can take the same consolation from your sisters untimely passing.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Hey guys and gals,

I won't be watching too much D3 football this weekend as my younger sister died in her sleep. Her husband found her yesterday morning. This is a shocking and very unexpected death in my family, she had just turned 57 last week. My wife and I will be on the road to New York state in just a little while for the funeral on Friday.

Enjoy the games - enjoy life!

Just wishing the MUC fans, players and staff well tonight. I hope that best shots are administered from both sides and that everyone comes out healthy. This Tommie has the utmost respect for your program and all its accomplished. You and UWW set the bar we aspire to. We're honored to be meeting you again in Salem.

Any chance we see a Dick Play...A Behind the Ass Pass tomorrow evening?  No this isn't Carleton!  Anybody with real balls would run that same crap against MU!

Can't cheer for the University that has dominated the MIAC in "all-sports" for 20-25+ years.

You all may feel proud of yourselves but understand you have a huge advantage in the game!

I admit it, UST is blest with advantages like a better university, better location, better endowment, better alumni, better students, and better athletes.

butt , YOU CAN'T BUY CLASS ... :P :-*    St tom = CLASSLESS :'(,       ST JOHNS = CLASS   8-)

Go MT U.. ;D

DC1, would this question be considered classless, How'd that a** pasting taste last week? Win or lose tonight, I take enjoyment knowing there's a bunch of John & Linfield fans that can't stomach the fact that they have to watch the Toms play in another National Championship.

Welcome all you Tommie-come-lately's. Your team is the the one with silver helmets and the S and T shield.

Ahhhh....the tired complaint by Oz about the new Tommie posters. So predictable! For the benefit of the newcomers, some of the Johns (Oz typically leading the charge) take exception to any interruptions of the John smokefest. I say, Welcome!

I'm expecting a whale of a game Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to it-should be a slugfest. It'd be nice to see both teams go at it 100% healthy, but at this point of the grind, that's next to impossible to achieve. The team that limits turnovers and plays the best defensively will be heading to Salem.

Safe trip to all who are traveling and continued health to all the boys lacing them up.

Just a quick question.  Been busy and barely able to keep up the last couple weeks, but how was the game determined to be at UST instead of Linfield?  Was it RR?  Also be very interested to see how UST finally does against some top level competition.  Them and MUC seemed to have had the luck of the draw with the playoff field.

WOW...was that a shot at SJU?!

This is going back a few pages, but it has been busy here.

A UST poster said with authority that the hit on Martin that put him out was not an intent to injure. Since the ball had left his hand, what exactly was the intent then? It could no longer affect that play. Also, and this is from memory, Martin had left the pocket, so he had escaped the pass rush. This hit came from either an LB or DB, who knew the status of the play at that time.

I didn't know we had clear evidence it was late? My guess was the intent was to disrupt the QB's throw or sack him if the opportunity presented itself. There are a lot of leaps and assumptions being made on both sides here. While officials are not always correct and do miss things, the one over the play in this case, did not throw the flag. Meanwhile a bunch of us who have not seen the full play are making big leaps.

For those that played, they also know how hard it is to instantly hit the brakes when your chasing down a qb and the ball gets quickly released. Hitting a QB the instant after a QB throws is generally not flagged because it happens almost simultaneously with the speed of the game. This becomes even more challenging when the QB is outside the pocket, given the threat to run is even more present. Officials are put in a very difficult position these days with the rules being muddied, with an end goal that everyone wants to accomplish a much safer game.

Separately, from my anecdotes I find it very interesting how little targeting is called at the D3 level, with the ejection rule in place, especially compared to watching a B1G game. I wonder if that is because they get nervous without the benefit instant replay.

I did see the play on the stream. I relayed info at the time in response to a question, that it was a tad late, but I didn't think the lateness was a penalty, since it wasn't all that late. My contention is that he slammed Martin to the ground, which was unnecessary since the ball was gone. He could have easily held up and just used Martin to stop his momentum by giving him a bump, or tackled him without the force to the ground. As I said then, I believe that is what is called a penalty in the NFL, but didn't know the specific rule to determine if it was a penalty in college. Though, IMHO, it should be. There, is that comprehensive enough?

Oh, DoubleO, you still didn't answer my question about what the intent was on that play.

Retagent, your asking what the defensive player's intent was? He was in pursuit of a QB who had dropped back to pass. His intent? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was to sack Martin. Straws, Retagent. Straws.

SJU56321-

Congrats on your alma mater's Championship. That was an old fashioned a** whipping they put on. Complete dominance. It was good to see Holecek finally get one after having come so close so many times.

I read your mention of your son being back from college and I recall your commenting that he was considering playing ball in college. Is he playing collegiately?

Lady(ies) & Gents, evil empire or not, it WAS NOT a late hit OR a roughing the passer penalty. While it sucks that Martin got hurt and ultimately, his career ended on the play, there was nothing malicious about the tackle. Pick another straw. For anyone (trainer, coach, player, commentator or other) to imply otherwise is nothing less than their own character indictment.

From Pat Reusse's Twitter during the game: @1500ESPN_Reusse: SJU coach Gary Fasching hot at ref Ronnie Blockinger ... presumably for failing to call roughing penalty on tardy hit of QB Nick Martin.

You're right, Pat being the Johnnie apologist he is has no character.

So because "SJU coach Gary Fasching hot at ref Ronnie Blockinger ... PRESUMABLY for failing to call roughing penalty on tardy hit of QB Nick Martin." Key word...PRESUMABLY! It was dirty play? That's the basis for your opinion. Come on! Control your emotions, folks. Unfortunately, Martin's head hit the turf on account of a good, form tackle that was finished. It was a fundamentally sound play that had an unfortunate outcome. That's it.

At home-son home from college, so couldn't fit in going to game.
Should be interesting next week for you guys-but probably the quarters will be the first challenge.

I'm curious to see how we stack up against Wabash. One at a time-I hope J. Roberts is healthy. Go Ramblers!
