28-0 Bombers now. I didn't expect this.

Maine Maritime is trying to revive football for the 2025 season. The ECFC would suit them if it still exists.

Fisher beat RPI 3-0? Were they playing volleyball or soccer instead, just for a goof? Disgusting sicko score.

Hilbert football to E8 in 2024 as an affiliate. Pat's front page article pointed out the Empire 8 would fall into the 2-year grace period to save its AQ if Utica leaves because they wouldn't have 4 core members. I'm thinking the long term solution is Hilbert becomes a full E8 member by 2026-27.

I mean, I'm biased but I generally agree that there isn't a meaningful bump in any of those things, and that includes exposure.

For Utica, it would mean a chance to do D-I hockey, though, and that is meaningful in that part of the country.

Utica's gimmick is they only care about hockey, but like having close to 30 other sports to increase enrollment. D2 differentiates themselves from most other schools in the region (they'll get to be one of only 6 D2 schools on the I-90 NYS corridor) and through hyper-regionalization of the playoffs gives them a better chance at NCAA postseasons than being SJF and Nazareth's speed bump in the E8. Again though, their administration is fine if they end up a complete doormat in Division II as long as men's ice hockey becomes an AHA power.

The Bear will be following along as his Dutchmen welcome D2 wannabe Utica College to Frank Bailey field in Shocktown.

I just did a quick search on information related to the Utica College move to D2 but couldn't find anything. Anyone have a source that would provide a summary of where things stand? Or is this not entirely public or a rumor at this point?

It's more like an open secret. They'll apply to D-II in February, I believe. My understanding is that it's the Northeast-10 that will be their conference of record so that they can apply.

Utica just tweeted 5 minutes ago that they will be making a special announcement tomorrow morning. I think it's about to go down.

Ithaca 52-3 Alfred. Hmm, not bad, I guess.

TOP is garbage.  :o  Score is all that matters.

Ice Bear says this is exactly what the reaction always is...hence the reason we make fun of the fact that many focus on TOP so much. We now use it as sarcasm...Ice may get his ass kicked for saying this but even Troylet is more important...and if you've ever been...

Ice don't let these Minnesota nerds shake your faith in TOP. All true adherents know that scoring points is heresy. You cradle that football in the warmth of your body like a daddy penguin protecting his egg through the Antarctic winter and never let it go. T-O-P! T-O-P!

I know they have to add 4-5 men's sports at least, depending on enrollment, in order to comply with NCAA rules, but is there a grace period or do they have to be compliant as soon as men step on campus? I don't recall what places like Mary Baldwin, Wells and New Rochelle did in the past.

This game is exactly why RPI could go 5-5 or 10-0 and neither would shock me.

The offense gets 11 first downs. They average 2.6 yards per rush, and complete just 8-of-26 passes. And they win.

Sure, we'll tell ourselves that beating an uninspiring Dickinson program at home by 7 thanks to a bad punt snap won't bode well for the Shoes game, or the trip to Butterfield.

Just like how last year, they barely got by the eventual 3-7 Montclair or the eventual 5-6 Stevenson.

And then they'll beat Ithaca when a game-winning FG attempt is heading right, then hits a bird mid flight on goes through. And beat Union by scoring a game winning TD on a botched kneel down by the Dutchmen, and then be in the national quarterfinals while all our teams are at home. We all know it's coming

it will be both exciting and deeply unpleasant to see how it all inevitably unfolds

Went to the Ithaca game today.  Hot day with stands on only one side and it was packed and sweaty but all in all a good time.

BSU simply got outmatched so it will be tough to get a good assessment here on this game.  A few takes though:

Ithaca offense was super efficient with mostly inside zone runs, traps and a few sweeps.  Probably 10-15 WR screens.  Not sure if the QB simply reads the defense and throws them but I'm not sure I've seen that many screens in a game before.  The QB Wingfield is precise and does not make many mistakes.  BSU never really gave up the big play but Ithaca seemed to get 5 yards on every run.  Ithaca's RB tandem was solid, #45 Williams doesn't look like much but man he had some tough runs and always got positive yards.  Then Brozovic took a series or two and he was quicker and faster than Williams but not as physical.  These two aren't the backs that Hobart has, but they can do the job.  I'm not sure what Jalen Hines story is.  Not sure if they are using him more as an H back or not for sweeps/reverses.

At the WR Michael Anderson is back and he is their go to guy.  Not big but more of a slot guy with some good quick moves.  No big playmakers at the WR positions but #8 Julian Deumaga had a couple nice plays that may put him in that category.

Defense solid all around.  Good pressure and a few sacks and big hits.  BSU didn't have much but their QB and WRs were solid if there was time to throw.

But the biggest takeaway from this game is that Ithaca was 5 for 5 in the Redzone with 5 TDs.  This puts them at NINTH IN THE COUNTRY IN RZ OFFENSE.

30+ minutes TOP for the bombers as well although TOP national stats take a few weeks to get going.

Glad you had a good time and got to take in an Ithaca game but there is nothing at all to learn from games like this.

If Ithaca is going to take the next step in their progression as a program, they must get better at scoring TDs in the RZ. It was not a strong suit for them under Swanstrom:

2021: 51%
2019: 68%
2018: 50%
2017: 52%

Obviously, the season where the Bombers had a grad transfer All-American candidate at QB might be seen as a bit of an outlier. But suffice to say, Ithaca needs to improve on that number.

I'm also interested to see how aggressive Toerper is this season. Swanstrom had a very big aggressive streak, perhaps to the point of predictability. The Cortaca Jug — and really the season — turned when he called for an onside kick on a kickoff from the 50 late in the 3rd quarter. The move makes sense in a lot of ways, but it's something he did frequently in those situations, and Cortland was ready for it. Mike Welch was pretty famously conservative. Will Toerper follow Swanstrom's style?

god, I almost forgot what a tapioca-brained Scott Frost-ass dumbf*** Swanstrom was.

We are now inside of 2 weeks to kickoff.  Anyone know of any week 0 DIII games???

Unfortunately it’ll be week 2 before I see my Panthers in person, won’t be making the trip to Little Rock for the season opener.

D-III teams are not allowed to play in Week 0. Sept. 1 are the first games.

Isn’t thiel playing hilbertthis Saturday?

Thiel has 10 games scheduled starting 9/3 but Hilbert is not one of them.

Four LL players made the pre season All-America teams.
All defense or special teams. RPI had three (two on the first team) and Ithaca had one (one on first team).

DT (1)   Josh Cohen                 RPI        Sr.  Wellesley, Mass.
CB (1)   C.J. Lyons                   RPI        Sr.  Rocky Mount, N.C.
K   (1)   Nicholas Bahamonde   Ithaca    Sr.  Berryville, Va.
LB  (3)  Joe Deptula                 RPI        Sr.  Watertown, Conn.

missed one.

OT (2) Tim Driscoll                  Union    Sr.  Pleasantville, N.Y.

Wells from United East to AMCC next year.

The UEC will be down to 7 members (entirely in PA/MD/DC) as we already knew Morrisville was moving to the NAC.
