Saw an Occidental College license plate frame on the car ahead of me at the gas pump at Costco here in Dallas.
We had a brief conversation. I think he was from the class of '86.

AUPepBand, In how many states have you been?

I lack only N Dak, S Dak, Idaho and Alaska.
I just went to Iowa on July 24.  That was my last one.

Sad to report that one of my son's teammates and o-lineman was diagnosed with colon cancer last week.  Two O-lineman on Cal Lu have had cancer in the past 4 years--different types, but still scary.  Prayers to him and his family.  For privacy reasons, name withheld.
So sad.  At that age they don't know until it is well along.  Good luck to the young man.
He had lower back pain and went in for that.  It is crazy that a 20 year old can get colon cancer.  My son said that it was found early and that he should recover!
  A good doctor.

Greetings…I’m new to Southern California and am looking forward to watching football at different levels in the fall.  One question I have about the SCIAC is why are teams duplicated on the schedule?  I was looking over Claremont’s schedule and noticed they play two teams twice…appears they did the same last season?  Has this always been the case?
Because Oxy stopped playing football.  Long story.

The endowment numbers really don't change the world much for any of our Iowa colleges except for Grinnell.  Their nearly $ 3 billion in endowment means they can just about do anything they want.  For others, a hundred million, for example, given a spend rate that is typically at 5%, yields $ 5 million.  On an endowment of, for example, a hundred million, the yield really gets swallowed pretty quickly.  Conversely, the Univ of Iowa's $ 3 billion endowment, given the size of their budget and the complexity of the enterprise, is almost chump change.  All Grinnell does is teach biology and history to 1700 undergraduates!  At a 5% spend rate Grinnell probably wouldn't need to charge tuition -- their annual yield is probably 150 million.  Oh, but one must not forget that endowments are created by donors who can and usually do place restrictions on how proceeds are to be spent.

I think they teach more than biology and history.

Another Bowdoin sighting in Dallas today.  This one was a license plate frame.

My next door neighbor has a Wabash frame that I see every day.

Any D3 guys in the new USFL ?

Bryan Scott (qb) from Occidental is on the Philadelphia Stars and Keith Gipson (cb) from UMHB is on the Pittsburgh Maulers. Haston Adams (dt) from UMHB was playing for the Stallions but cut when he got hurt.
FYI:  Oxy no longer plays football. :'(
