After seeing eight zillion games in the crackerbox over the past quarter-century, I have a pretty good eye for home attendance at an NPU game. There have only been four Vikings home games to date; I missed the St. Norbert game (I was out of town Thanksgiving weekend), but I was told that the attendance was somewhere around 300. The Benedictine game was played during Christmas break, and the attendance was about 250. The MSOE and Wheaton games were about 750 apiece.

Eight zillion, huh? That would make you what, about fourteen? http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

I see that you're diligently working on that New Year's pledge to make your life a no-hyperbole zone, April. http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

Prediction: April's 10,000th post will come on January 23, 2010

Mr. Ypsi

Mac,

At the rate she goes?!  I'll take November 16th, 2008!

I smell a betting pool coming on.

Put me down for January 29, 2011, for April's 10,000th post.

Well the numbers are out, and Hope has once again lead the nation in attendance, with an average crowd of 2462.  That number would have placed 11th in DII, and 181st in DI - ahead of 146 DI schools.

The MIAA also finishes first as a conference with an average of 1115.

I would assume Illinois Wesleyan is one of the leaders in attendance in DIII!  I mean come on who wouldnt want to go to the Shirk, one of the most beautiful arenas in DIII!

IWU was second in the nation last year for attendance, and the top 3 have been been Hope, IWU, and Calvin every year (not always in that order) since 1995.  The NCAA only has attendance stats for DIII back to 1993.  In 93 Scranton was #3, and in 94 Albany (NY) was #2.  Hope & Calvin have always been in the top 3.

Besides the Big 3, only 4 other teams have ever averaged over 2000 in attendance - Otterbein (2002), Wisc - Plattville (1995), Albany (1994), and Scranton (1993).

I would bet Hope is over the 3000 mark easily this year

it's biased to have the best attendance or even the number itself too.. Most SID always around off or try to put alot of attendance so the school will look good even though it's false or much lower than that.. It will occur more than 80% of the whole D-3 schools at least once in every season.

The top numbers for attendance (ie the big midwest schools) are very accurate when it comes to attendance.  I know it gets dicey in the small schools, but no one with 750 per game is going to win the attendance battle anyway.
