The Post-Dispatch published an article about the SLIAC and how they are dealing with Covid-19, including comments from the commissioner.

Good article. Thanks for posting it. Immediately after reading it I stumbled across this generic Covid/D3 article:
https://frontofficesports.com/division-iii-athletic-departments-face-covid-changes/.

This is not sports related, but here is an interesting (to me at least) article about a Westminster college geology prof discovering a triceratops skull in South Dakota. https://news.stlpublicradio.org/health-science-environment/2020-08-17/i-was-in-denial-missouri-paleontologist-unearths-rare-triceratops-skull

What a feel good story.  More D3 Dinos please.  What a coup for Westminster.

Over/Under is 5 years before the mascot is changed to the Dinos or Triceratops or maybe just "T-Tops".

Maybe put the restored head it in the gym next to Iba's jersey.

Winston the Blue Jay sounds way better than Winston the Triceratops.

If they haven't changed their name to the Fightin' Churchills, no way they change to anything else.

Not basketbaall, but...

"The Rays will select the contract of lefty Josh Fleming from their alternate training site this weekend, manager Kevin Cash announced to reporters...The 24-year-old Fleming was a rare draftee from a Division-III program — a fifth-round pick by the Rays out of Webster University in St. Louis back in 2017. He's cruised through the minors, pitching to a combined 3.40 ERA with 6.6 K/9, 1.6 BB/9 and a ground-ball rate north of 50 percent."

wooooooow... obviously I've become a Rays fan with the Trop only a 10 minute drive from home... they have done an incredible job using multiple  pitchers every game... (not just 2 or 3, but many times 5, 6 or 7)... the article goes on to say that Fleming is going to start on Sunday !!!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

y_jack_lok

^^^ If you watch the game Sunday, let us know how Fleming does.

^^^ Good to hear that things are going well at EC. Regarding the start of basketball, are you referring to the announcement about the D1 start date of 11/25? D3 has a spearate committee with separate leadership, right? So I wonder if we will hear something from them soon. Sure hope so.

For those interested, here's an SI article on the difference in D1 between football and basketball:

DIII will not be following any DI decisions at all. Vast majority if not the entire division won't start until January at this point.

Webster has long had sub-standard training facilities, but the administration appears to have leased out the former 24 Hour Fitness adjacent to campus to create the Loks Training Center.

This has the potential to be a very good small college facility.

y_jack_lok

^^^Interesting. Where, exactly, is it located?

WUPHF

It is in the Old Orchard strip mall next to Vietnamese restaurant and the Starbucks.  I assume the facility will be open to all students, but maybe not.  The chess team still has disproportionately more space than the athletic department, but assuming that they get the right equipment, this will be a much better space.

This is unrelated, but here are a few Westminster stories...

Westminster is getting another 2,500 career point scorer who averaged 27 points per game last season, but I learned my lesson with the last one so I will not make any predictions.  Those schools are so small.

Also a player out of Jefferson City.

^^^ Thanks. I don't get to Old Orchard much so never really noticed that place. .

Hope those guys work out well for Westminster.
